  • Choices Choices! (150cc)

    I'm still stuck!
What bike do I go for???

I am a 19 year old college go-er. Will be studying for the next four years at least.
I want to buy a 150cc bike mainly for commuting.
As you can imagine from my age, the bike should be fun to ride, zippy and nimble! Oh, and not to mention the looks!

Also, I'll be doing some tours from Chandigarh to Shimla, Delhi, Agra, and some day, Ladakh as well!!!
So this bike needs to have a decent touring ability and good performance at high speeds for a long period of time.

you wanna ride it alone or with pillion rider??
these questions will help us to choose better suited bike for you..

FZ looks good but as of now i think Apache will be good for you..cuz you are a student so it won't burn your pocket while refueling it..this bike almost have everything which a student want..its swift in traffic, great handling, looks are good as well, has good power delivery in comparison with other bikes of its segment..

        HOW CONTRADICTORY IS THAT???

you want a commuter, thats :-
        1) fast. i.e not in the commuter league
        2) decent touring ability.. definately not a commuter
        3) fun to ride and zippy..

none of these are the characteristics of a commuter. a commuter is a high milage bike with lotsa comfort and thats it.

if you want a extremely reliable commuter, go for the unicorn.

if you want a bike for top speed, acceleratation, decent reliability, go in for the apache rtr 160

looks is purely your choice. i love the hunk but i guess most people dont so that is your choice.

for touring, fz is the best but remember the milage is a bit low.

pulser & all hero honda bikes are very good all-rounders but not the best in anything.

r15 is for the tracks and a very good bike.

        now take your pick.

i understand exactly what you mean.. 'cos i'm of your age and going to college right now...

among the lot , I've heard that the FZ has had issues with its disc brakes ..
I would chose the FZ purely on the basis of its looks..

The GS and Apache performs lot better than FZ..GS don't have any vibrations while going past 80kmph mark(that's what some of the owners told me)...
so go for either one of them.. I'd say Apache coz of its pickup and fuel economy and comparatively better looks(personal view) ..
GS doesn't look good for a 19 yr old.. (again, personal opinion)...
may be try for that Apache 180..that's a bit more superb ..

FZ suits all your requirements, except mileage. Mileage is in the range of 40-45 kmpl.

I would say that select either the Honda or the Suzuki. The FZ and the Apache are great bikes but as the other members have said, their fuel efficiency is a bit on the low side. The Apache also has some vibration problems. Not meant for long distance touring.

Agreed that the GS is not that good looking, however the smoothness of the engine will bowl you over. The Honda too. These two bikes are good enough for touring.

              Cheers!

go for the RTR 180 good for power handling may be a bit high priced but good in future tomorrow if ur mind changes instead of this 150-160cc i would have gone for 180rtr would have been better, well its my personal opinion rest its ur choice, all the best

go for the fz-16... not saying because i own one of those but because have been riding it from the past 13 months and havent had any problems till now apart from the fuel efficiency a bit on the lower side around 40kmpl....
other than that nothing zero maintenance only regular sevices.... and of course the one with the best looks (my opinion)

as a second choice i would recommend the rtr160 with rear disc brakes....
good looks gr8 performance in case of top speed..... problems with the vibrations at medium to higher rpms.......

Dude, have you ever heard of bikes like the Honda Unicorn and the Suzuki GS150R?
The GS is the best 150cc touring bike in the country!
And yes, they are damn good!

                          1. Pulsar, GS and Dazzler fit into this
                          2. The GS! nuff said!
                          3. Dazzler, FZ!
