  • Confused BIG time, need some expert advice !!!

    Hello Bikers there,

This is Nishant from Chennai. I already own a Bajaj Avenger 200 bought 2 years back (Dec 2008 to be precise). I love riding bike but because of time contrain and frequent travel, I'm able to spend less time with it. I have rode just 16000+ Km in last 2 years proves that . This also means that I'm not able to run after the service guys to keep fixing my bike after every service they do (I feel they do nothing better then making a big bill and putting it in neat envelop). Now I'm planning to sell this bike and buy another one (sorry to say but I'm sick of Bajaj Service centers here in chennai which is forcing me to do so). But not to mention, a big list of good bikes is in front of my eyes. Budget is no issues and I can spend upto little over 1 L for a bike. I have few ideas but it make me go more nuts then clear the clouds.

Things I expect in a bike.

    1. A good build quality(Bajaj don't satisfy that, except for P220).
    2. A decent after sale service in Chennai (Sorry but Bajaj Failed in this too).
    3. I'm not a regular bike commuter and expect a run of 800km to 1000 km / month so mileage is also not a big issue.
    4. I already owned Apache 150 (2006 model, and It was GOOD) and now avenger 200, so want to go higher in CC's.
    5. I know maintance is very important and I try hard as much as I can, but a low maintance bike will be a Gem for me.
    6. I have open choice over tourer and sports kind of bikes.

Brotherine, Please do help. I have very high level of respect for the views and criticism (oh yeah ) in xbhp.

    Many Thanks in Advance,

    Cheers

    Nishant

Karizma-R is the choice for you. A good resale, reliability and comfort. But, you will have to bear with increased parts cost, unavailability or excessive delay of parts.

regarding the service, all are having the same problems almost everywhere.
its not the manufacturers but the sales and service support that sucks.. unless you are ready to fight for what you want out of every service, the people will take you for a ride.. sadly, this is the scenario here.

the manufacturers are too busy selling, service people like only those bikes which have negligible work to be done. and most of us sont have the time to see our bikes getting serviced. so this is bound to happen whichever bike you buy..

my advice is get the bike that you like and whenever you go for service, get it done in front of your eyes. it will bring you more satisfaction of owning the bike..
If you say that you do not have the time for the bike service, maybe your priorities are too messed up..

take a leave or skip a ride on sunday but get it serviced in front of you..there is no alternative for this..

@ROCKRZ - Thanks for the reply.

Yes, you are right about the priorities but that never came inbetween my regular bike servicing . I have taken my bike for regular bike servicing but was not able to sit there seeing bike getting serviced.

Those 3 bikes are really good . I rode all the 3 bikes and all feel great in their own ways. I know about the build and finishing quality of Yamaha is great (for R 15 and FZ 16 ) but can we say samething for ZMA? I rode my friends ZMA once (2008 model) and it was heaven . I know engine is good and very reliable but does it still hold good over its new avatar, ZMR ???? does that extra 20k is really worth (Full fairing really doesn't matter to me over actual performance and reliabilty of bike).

Please advice, ZMR is already making good impression in my mind but long delivery dates is pushing me back !!!

@shrinathrao - Yes mate, R15 is revolution in Indian bike industry from the time its launched. but it got those skinny rear wheels which is little pain in eyes . Will it affect the warrenty or overall performance too much in case its replaced ?? (sorry I'm not too much techincally sound in these stuffs ) Please advice

the extra 20k is worth if you are the sort of person who loves tech...
the throtle response is much better, torque is a bit higher but i can say anything since i have not riden the new one..

the fairing is just an extra!!!

if you like the zmr by the loks, its anyday better than the zma.. the servicing of the new pgm unit is however doubtfull cos new tech is always laden with service problems.. the service center guys are not trained enough to handle the new techs... but this is again a general problem.

@ROCKRZ - I would definitly will go for ZMA-R over ZMR if I have to select one of those 2 . But what I can do for the wait time ? 3 months is just too much to book a bike a just wait. R15 is my second choice but good news is there is no waiting time at all. And in case I'm ready to wait for 5 to 7 days, I can actually get colour of my choice. Can something can be done for ZMA's waiting time ???

Modifying tyres does not void the warranty man

Just called a Yamaha Showroom. Asked them about the waiting time and avaibility of colors in R15.They are ready to give me bike(any color) in one day if I can make full payment ,and 4 days in case I'm going via loan. Will be calling HH showrooms across chennai to get final map of ZMA in chennai at this time and will be going for a testing R15 again by tomorrow morning.

Try riding the r15 without the fairing & than google up about wind tunnel testing & I think you will be good to go

@darkknight - ah, okay sorry but I never said anything about R15 fairing . I was talking about ZMR fairing which is add-on given over ZMR. Not to say how ZMA has performed over years and we can actually think of best bike in market which is having little or no fairing, ZMA-R. R15 is tested and brought to market with fairing, tested by best people in industry. A novice like me better not give any opinion about it. I am happy with R15 as there is no option avaliable with one , or do we ???

                            Thanks for replying though !!!
