  • What's with 150 CC?

Hey Guys, This is my first post here, I have been following this forum for quite long time and I am very much exited to be a part of this forum.

First of all I don't know anything about bikes(I am trying to learn as far I can). I have an old bike Calliber and it is dying like anything. So I am in need of a new one. My specs are
    1. I am 5Ft9" and weigh 75 kgs(on the leaner side), basically I am looking for some of bikes which suite my height(Eliminating Apache and Yamaha Fz)
    2. I travel around 50 -60 kms daily. At least I expect 50 -55 mileage
    3. I am living in Chennai and most of you guys know about the traffic and bad road conditions. It must be easy in traffic and I love my caliber for that. It is like cycle to navigate in traffic(I am not sure, if that's due to handle bar or bikes build)

I am not very much into looks. Any bike which satisfies the above 3 is more than enough for me.

Upon some googling and looking into some valuable posts & suggestions in this forum, I am rather inclined to Suzuki GS 150 R or Honda unicorn/dazzler.

The wait time of Unicorn is very high. My budget is 60-70 k

Also I have some serious doubts on weather to choose 150 cc . The reason being last month Yamaha launched SZX and for 150 cc it's quite cheaper compared to others except discover 150. One of my friend purchased it and I went along with him. Over a couple of weeks, I asked about the mileage and he said it was around 40. And the size it looks like very small to me.

Help me guyz, If a bike of say 50-55k can do the same things as the bike that costs 65-70, why should I go for the latter?(Also I am very much surprised ,the prices mentioned by the dealers are quite contradictory as it is shown on the company's website and it varies from dealer to dealer. If that's the case, how should I decide?)
Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by its breathtaking moments.

I am 6 ft , i recently bought Apache Hyper Edge , this is "my" first bike , found it very comfortable, it s cost on road in blore is 73k, its a performance bike , as you have said in this post , you dont look for speed in bike , you value mileage very much , then go for Suzuki GS it self its also a great bike ,but its price is also 72k in blore , Try pulsar 135 cc once

        Gs 150 r

        Thanks dude!
I went to a couple of dealers to check the price. Both are some what the same.
The price is around 69,700(On road). Both are willing to waive the insurance amount of 1200 if paid full cash. Other than that no discount is available. Is the price ok. What should I look for or ask for any particular details??

Look for Suzuki service centres around your place , other than that do a thorough check up of your bike look out for any dents , pop open the rear seat and check insides , and make sure you get a tool kit

well, gs 150r is no doubt a good bike; but a question remains about its handling in traffic because of its size.........
pulsars are a strict no from me since its after sales service is rubbish.....
honda unicorn dazzler would have been a good option...... given the reliability of honda.....
anyways do let us know what u have decided ultimately

150cc bikes are not exactly known for their mileage bro. you should be happy with anything from 45 to 55 kmpl. about your friends bike its new and it depends on your riding style. my dad drives his shine and he gets 60 something mileage i drive it i get 50 or less lol unicorn sound like a good bet when it comes to your physique and mileage concerns. the suzuki is heavy and tall even my dad dint like it. if the wait for unicorn is too long, you can try the yamaha sx or the discover. they will suit your need too. depends on what you want. both sx and discover are light, easy on the pocket and delivers on the mileage front while the sx's verdict is still not out since its a yam it should be a good bet.. but dont expect too much on the mileage front.

hope this helped. as for your two final questions. prices rarely differ from dealer to dealer it might just be in 100s not more. check whether the website is showing ex-showroom or OTR prices. its like this you get alto for 2lacs as well as 3lacs. your wish what you pick. you pay for what you get. the RTR and FZ are for performance so priced more while the sx, discover are for price conscious consumer who doesnt wanna pull wheelies but good mileage. the unicorn, suzuki is for people who want a premium for the commuter they pay.
                    Regardless, Life shall go on.

I will definitely check those including the rust in petrol tank. I hope this 2010 model does not have those!!

Yes guyz. My initial choice was the Honda Unicorn. not to be personal here.. I don't like the looks of Dazzler and moreover it's a new variant..

Well, towards weight and handling in traffic.. I have managed my uncles Bullet in Chennai traffic for more than 6 months couple of years back. So, I hope i can manage it.

Meanwhile..For booking, they are asking for the original documents to be submitted to them.
