I am also looking at 150 cc bikes.to be more precise , I am looking at the following :

    New Hunk
    Apache Hyperedge
    Unicorn

Obviously the new hunk & hyperedge come with more features than unicorn.
Which would be better for daily city ride?

Also, Hero honda dealer gave me the following quotes

    Insurance - 1548/-
Regn - 4700/- (road tax is 7% here)
    Corporate warranty - 550/-
    Accessories - 700/-
    Hero Honda passport - 150/-

He insists that the corporate warranty and hero honda passport are compulsory .Is that so?
Also, whether these two things are really worth buying?

@Rev-it-up: What is corporate warranty and hero honda passport? Never heard of it.

I guess ,the passport is somewhat related to the good life card & corporate warranty is some kind of extended warranty for the third year (or should it be fourth as Hunk website mentions a 3 year standard warranty).

Is it worthwhile buying the accessories from them? They are making quite a sum on the regn also that's why they don't allow you to get the regn done yourself.

I am not sure what is the purpose of the passport provided by HH. Why should I pay if they cant explain the benefits of it. Make sure you talk to HH owners on the forum before buying such things.

As far as extended warranty goes I will suggest you to take it if you are planning to keep the vehicle for that long. Also get all the things cleared from the showroom guys, what actually it means and what all is covered in the extended warranty and what is not, and check whether the things they have mentioned are actually present in the documents which they provide. Also check whether the extended warranty is for that dealer only or can be used at other HH authorised SVC's also.

Honda Unicorn : bigger HH splendor, nothing else. very reliable, good resale

Honda Dazzler : performance tuned unicorn, better performance than unicorn but vibes at 6000+ rpm, tubeless tyres and rear disk. -ve is cost doesn't justify the 74K+ onroad, Pulsar 180 is better at lower price.

TVS apache 160 RTR : best in class performance, decent average if ridden properly, superb handling, not as reliable as Honda or HH bikes but not so bad. biggest negative is too many vibes. buy for absolute performance only.

Suzuki Gs150r : well balanced bike, economy, power, raw modes. -ve is weight and heaight ( bit higher than others)

HH Hunk : again a good bike, better alternative to Unicorn, same engine as unicorn

Bajaj P150 : better bikes from japs are in market, avoid unless die hard Bajaj fan. update is due in 2Q 2011.

Yamaha SZ-r/x : low on power, features, avoid unless on tight budget
Yamaha FZ : Just a fashion accessory

Bajaj Discover 150 : higher power tham Yamaha Sz but low refinement, excellent power to weight ratio. buy it for excellent average + ves are 53 K on road for alloys, disk brake, self start, DC headlight. total VFM package.

            Pulsar 180 DTSi

            +ves
            Better than Dazzler
            Looks
            Power
            Performance
            Stability
            cornering
            tyres
            Shocks
            Wheelbase
            Spares Availability
            Riding position
            Big bike feel
            Cheap spares
Bigger Battery ( 9A vs 5A in Dazzler)
            Instruments ans switches
Bigger front disk ( as same as Pulsar 220)
            Better exhaust note
Flexible indicators ( they don't brake in public parking or in case of a fall)
            Headlight spread
            Self canceling indicators
            Spilt seat
Full DC electricals ( headlight on battery than alternator)

            -Ves
            Worse than Dazzler

Resale value ( but you pay a lot more for dazzler than its actual worth)
FE ( more power, 30cc more, wider tyres)
Periodic maintenance ( you need to do the things when they are due, don't delay)
Less engine refinement ( not as smooth as Japs, a price you pay for +ves listed above)
            Rear drum brake
            no clock

If I was in your place, I would go for P180.

            Concerns
            Mileage ( Average KMPL)
Honda 150 cc will definitely have more. say 5-10 KMpl
People have reported 45Kmpl for P180 when ridden at normal speeds.
As experts say, Average of a vehicle depends more on the driving style.

            Performance

P180 is known for its performance.
Ride it sanely for good average and wen you need the power , just twist the throttle a bit more.
You can cruise at 100-105 KMph in P180 while its 90Kmph for 150cc Honda ( if you care for the engine life)

            Maintenance
Bit frequent than Dazzler. There are going to be small niggles developed in long run, but nothing will
cost you a fortune. cause the spares are way cheaper than the Honda.

            RESALE
Of course, P180's engine is not as refined as Honda or Yamaha but again they are charging you a fortune for that.
What's the point of buying a bike for 6k/- more than the other bikes and selling
it for 2k/- more than the other.

Also in today's time, if you are into long rides, 150cc's power feels insufficient ( except RTR160)

              @Motionfreak:Very nicely explained.
Seems like the thread starter had already made up his mind for P180.

              D.I.Y-Valve clearance setting RTR180
              D.I.Y-RTR180 brake fluid replacing/brake bleeding
              D.I.Y-RTR180 brake pad replacing/cleaning
Exploded view of Mikuni BS-29 carb

A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself.

                        Drama of Variyan TVS Pune

                        Hi Guys,
Although this is not the relevant thread to post a bike purchasing experience, but I chose this thread as I had started it, requesting people to give their inputs in selecting a bike.
I bough RTR 160 HE from Variyan TVS in Pune on 24th Jan and am still trying to get over the pathetic experience i had. Here is a sequence of events that happened -
                        1. I selected a Grey RTR 160 HE from Variyan showroom on Baner road.
2.Bike registration took more than a month, despite repetitive requests and me escalating the issue to TVS area manager.
                        3. Bike color was wrong on the bill, and I had to shell out some bucks to traffic cop for that. (When I told this to Variya their approach was very casual about it).
                        4. As I was new to this bike I wanted to have a manual of the bike so that I can get to know about it. It took me 2 months to get a manual from him. Note that Variyan TVS is just at a walking distance from my home and I used to follow up almost daily.
5.It has been 5 months and I am yet to get a smart card.
                        6. I raised a complaint about Variyan at consumer complaints here -http://www.consumercomplaints.in/complaints/variyan-tvs-baner-road-pune-c518235.html
After a week their manager calls me and shouts at me that why did you post this????
7.He did not provide the orange rings that we have around the wheels of the bike. I was not aware of this, when I saw others Apache then only I got to know what was missing in my apache.
                        8. HE has a new feature - service indicator, it blinks when the bike is due for service. Mechanics at Variyan were struggling to reset this indicator and after trying a lot they left it like that. Now my indicator blinks everytime I start my bike. It also reminds me of the pathetic service provided at variyan whenever i start my bike.

I am planning to make a call tomorrow again to get my smart card. I am feeling so bitter now that I decided to write this post so that others do not get into this trap.
For all the points above his answers are very casual. Please beware of Variyan TVS.
