you cant have both.. To help you make a better decision here are the salient feature of the bikes
unicorn - great refinement, smooth yet powerful, good mileage, very stable, but long wating period, many parts not available right away
rtr - born rough but much better performer, gear changes are very fast, supports your physique, head turner in comparison to unicorn, similar mileage

both bikes are equally good for 40-50k kms.. After that a unicorn will have an edge over rtr in maintenance costs.

And if you want best of both the worlds.. Suzuki gs 150r !!

It definately will perform like new if you maintain it very well. And if your heart says rtr then close your eyes and go for it. Don't listen to your mind, it'll cheat on you later.

@w4rrior..Thanks for the immediate reply. I can't TD a unicorn to make a clear decision. One more doubt: Will a 2 year old rtr performs as a new one? I think it will, for the unicorn. But what about the apache?

@kadadevaru..Thanks for the reply. FE is a huge parameter for me. This was the main reason for me being restricted within 125cc class. So i have to eliminate rtr180 and fz. As for the dazzler, i personally like the classic looks of unicorn more. So its between rtr160 and unicorn. Its heart vs mind.. My heart says rtr and mind says unicorn. My dad has a loyalty towards honda and suzuki. He owned a suzuki samurai which was my fav(i was about 5 then. Now we have a black passion pro in our garrage).

rtr vs pulsar vs unicorn

i read the whole thread completely before answering.. You went on from 18 to 19.. Just missed out the dates.
Rtr is my favorite bike.. Its the best performer as well as has good looks. It gives confidence on the highway and is stylish.
Go for rtr.
As you are very young, start off with 40-50-60 speeds for sometime and gradually extend it to whatever you are confident at.. As you grow you will yearn for more power and an rtr wont dissapoint you.. Buying a bike for 4-5 years vision and requirements, as you mentioned, is well planned.

Since you are willing to go for unicorn den y not have a look at other bikes in the same price range??
1-apache rtr 180-excellent bike imo..if you can stretch upto 80k...just go for it
2-fzs/fz 16- best looking bike in this segment..if you are not worried about low fe and want a "headturner no nonsenese performance bike" this is the one for you
3-unicorn dazzler-upgraded unicorn thrown in with few goodies,better top speed,better power to weight ratio and a complete package..
I in no way want to confuse you...since unicorn are availabe around 75k these bikes are also worth considering...all these bikes are light in weight and have lower seat height making it comfortable for short riders like you and me..
if you want a bike just between rtr160 and unicorn,id go with rtr160...better performance and has sporty feel to it which suits young people more...unicorn is more commuterish..
imho rtr160 is worth all those small niggles...

Guys, its been quite a while since i had posted something in here. I am still a 19 year old boy who can do nothing but dream of owing his dream bike. Months passed and i couldnot get a bike due to the lack of proper financial backup. That was a very tight year for my dad i must say(my dad is buying the bike for me). And i did fought a lot to reach the 150cc segment. And now the time has come. Financial problems are almost over and my dad finally agreed to get me unicorn. But i still have rtr160 in my mind. Uni, as far as i know is so smooth and reliable, but looks oldish for me who is just 19. Plus, i am on the shorter side and rtr suits me nicely(couldn't try uni yet). I felt the vibes quite annoying, i won't get a chance to test ride uni because of non availability of stocks. So here are my doubts:
1) Can the rtr give me problem free ride for 4-5 years?
2) Can i get used to the vibes?
3) Is the uni unenthusiastic for an enthusiast?
4) What about the mileage?
5) How about the performance, handling, gearing and all such aspects?
5) Finally, which one of these two could be my ideal companion?
I need a solid answer so that i should not regret after purchasing the bike.

If you can stretch your budget for the pulsar 150, Then why not look at the Apache RTR160. Its a better performer, good for short guys, looks good too.

Took another test ride on the szr, a longer one, which helped me to confirm the pulsar150. But as we all know, it is speculated that bajaj is upgrading it by the end of 2011. So it makes me wait even more. Or should i?

The SZ-R being new and fresh is obviously a head turner (personal opinion). And as you said the sz-r in blue looks superb & it comes for a lot lesser price than the P150. The P150 has its own edges like better SC availability, Top speed, power & goodies.

Both are good & decent bikes but the sz-r would be ideal for the city & hills due to its better torque output at lower rpms. The P150 would make a decent touring bike. But that doesnt mean that the sz cant be used for touring & the P150 cant be used in the city.

About the maintenance part then i would say that both the bikes would last equally if maintained well. Mileage wise the sz should win or it is a tie. Both bikes perform very well till 80kph after which the sz may struggle.

Guys, a twist in the story which made me totally, totally confused. P135ls and ss125 are out of my list, and now enter the pulsar150ug4.5. Made a test ride on the sz-r. It looks hot in blue. Excellent feel, brilliant handling, dynamics, great acceleration and overtaking, superb engine note, zero vibes(till around 75kph, which i could go. I couldn't check the exact speed because the speedo was unwired). It is the high torque at low rpm(12.8Nm@4500rpm) which makes the mid-range so powerful. I felt the bike is kinda made-4-me. But now, its sz-r vs p150. I simply love the pulsar's looks. It is a beast full of mouth-watering goodies, where the sz-r loses out. But my doubt is, how is the pulsar's mid-range performance? The max power 15.06PS at a peaky 9000rpm, and torque 12.5Nm is also at a higher 6500rpm(as opposed to 12.1PS at 7500rpm and 12.8Nm at 4500rpm in the sz-r). Does this weaken the low-mid range performance? is it better than the sz-r(if it is, how?)? What about maintainance? I don't really care about the top speed, but need power till 80kph. Head turning looks are appreciated. Is the sz-r capable of that? Which one of them suits my 5'6" frame? Please help...

thanks for the info madhav. i've taken a test ride too on the ss. man its great....mainly on highways as you all said. suspention is just what i need from it.. the only problem being the riding position. as i'm not so vertically blessed, i have to sit in a confused riding position i.e, leaning towards the handlebars at the same time placing my feet, front. the fit and finish of the bike is too good. the engine never ever felt stressed

It's totally up to you to decide which bike you shpuld get. I myself enjoy riding up to 90s every now and then and it doesn't take much time to get there. But to ride consistantly at 60-70 may be SZ is better. I don't have any experience on SZ but it's a Yamaha.... so it has its edge.
