  • rtr or r15?!

    Hey there ppl!
Im Sundar and am new to xBhp ! must say this is THE place for bike enthusiasts and the like....
im doing my final year of engineering and have plans to get a new bike... at present my ride is the pulsar 150cc DTS-i (first generation-the one with the spoke wheels)....

i have narrowed down on two bikes, the rtr 180 and the r15 but am still confused as to which one i should go for......my requirements are:

    1. i ll be mostly riding on the highway
    2. i usually dont care about mileage but with petrol prices hitting the ceiling who cant? so economy is also a factor...
    3. im used to the pulsar's acceleration so would like if my new ride has comparable torque...

basically my head tells me to go for the rtr but my heart says the r15....

i would like to have some insight on the quality of the rides two years down the line and also info regarding the cost of spares, sales service, handling (some info reg. vibrations in the rtr) and the quality issues of the current on sale r15's ( i heard that yamaha has cut down on parts coming from thailand and that the current r15 parts have some issues ) .. etc....
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

      R15 is better on highways.

A180 is marginally better then R15 in mileage though the difference isn't that much which should deviate you toward a particular bike.

      3. im used to the pulsar's acceleration so would like if my new ride has comparable torque...
here A180 scores heavily over an R15, on high speeds there's no match for R15 with A180 but A180 has an awesome pickup which is lacking in case of R15.

basically my head tells me to go for the rtr but my heart says the r15....
First of all welcome to biggest biking community of India i.e XBHP
now as per your query, my comments are in bold..
R15 is an awesome bike, so does an A180 but in terms of reliability, smoothness, head turning capability, R15 scores more & in terms of cheaper spares & lesser maintainence in comparison, A180 scores above.
so chose according to your needs & ride safe

thanks for providing info on the two bikes ...but could you elaborate about the vibration's in the rtr.?

I ve ridden the rtr 160 and i must say at the end of the ride i thought my 7 year old pulsar was way better, the vibrations at 5-6k rpm is pathetic.....
but i ve heard that the vibrations in the rtr180 are lower in comparison ....but i still havent taken a test ride yet so it would be better if you could provide some info on that .....
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

No,whosoever says that vibrations are less in 180 is blabbering!

About the mileage issue.Depends the way you will ride or rip the bike.Factually, both return the overall same figure of about 35-40kmpl..

Go with the R15 as your heart says.RTR is nevertheless,a great bike. But as I can make out from here that your main concern are vibrations in the RTR,so better be off with the Yamaha.

Though vibrations haven't yet killed anyone in the past but all points and priorities taken, the R15 seems like to be the more obvious choice for you..

          Happy & Safe riding,

          Cheers!!
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

If vibrations are a concern, dont go for the RTR 180. R15 will be a better buy overall since you mentioned you will be mostly riding on the highways.

I am certainly not as experienced as you guys are and have about an hour of experience riding bikes(three of them actually,a victor GX,a souped up samurai and a white RTR)I did not like the gear shifts of the RTR(it hurt my leg!)but it feels like Dio with unlimited NOS!!the throttle response is awesome and it just makes you smile each time you twist the throttle!!Felt heavy during cornering(maybe because i have never dived into a corner on any bike!).If you want to win signal drags then go for this and if you want girls saying "Damn this guy's rich" then go for the Yamaha. This might not be the advice you are looking for but it is just my two-cents worth of opinion.

As someone having both (well almost)

                Highway = R15
                Mileage = RTR (slight advantage)
Acceleration = RTR (in low revs... R15 for cruising on higher revs)
                Sales & Service = R15
                Vibes\headache free operations = R15

R15 would be the best of the lot if reliability, speed & service is your concern. The apache has got a slight better mileage, cheaper & is easy-to-service.

Listen to your heart.. go with R15. Seems like you don't ride much in city.. in that case R15 is the most appropriate choice for you. You will get used to R15 kind of riding with time... trust me, you will love it on highway.

I would also recommend you to go for R15, close your eyes and go for it.
