  • Confuse in deciding Bike...

    Hi Experts,

For a quite long time, I am visiting xBHP and reading the review and experience of users about bikes. This is my first post here.
I am planning to buy a bike in next month. I have selected two bikes (Actually, I like only these two).

    • Yamaha FZ
    • Pulsar 180

I am planning to buy a bike in next month. I have selected two bikes (Actually, I like only these two).

      • Yamaha FZ
      • Pulsar 180
(Both the bikes are suitable for your height weight combo)

The must requirement for me is the life of bike, as I am not going to buy car or bike in next 4-5 years. Therefore, the bike should be reliable. I ask my friends, neighbor and strangers (On roadside who own pulsar or FZ, used to stop them and ask about their bike ). One of my friends says that Pulsar requires maintenance in every two month . Does pulsar require more maintenance? People say Yamaha is reliable and long lasting.
(There is no such thing like pulsar requires more maintenance, every bike requires periodic servicing and it depends on number of kilometers. Both the bikes are reliable and strong if maintened properly)
Generally, I will use my bike for city ride only. I used to drive at normal speed and rarely go beyond 80 and 90. I want mileage up to 40. Can I expect this mileage from Yamaha FZ ?
(Kindly confirm FZ's mileage from some owner, FZ's mileage is around 40, P180 easily gives a mileage of 40-45 kmpl)(For city riding FZ's handling is very good, its short wheelbase gives it flickability in tight traffic situations becuase of smaller turning radius. P180's handling is also good but it in city FZ is better in terms of handling. P180's longer wheelbase gives is more stability in straightline riding, therefore making it more suitable for highway riding. FZ's wider rear tyre is also a plus point. For city riding, Fz's handling is slightly better than P180)
In performance point, Pulsar 180 is better than FZ .In handling point, I never have confidence on Pulsar 150 while riding it so many time (Cant say about 180) but FZ I have much confidence till 80 (Not go beyond this).May be pulsar 180 is more stable because of wider rear tire.
(Pulsar180 scores in terms of raw power, straightline performance, acceleration, pick up, top speed. P180 is all about power. P180 will also give better mileage than FZ)
So guys I am confuse in this two bike . Help me out in this.

      Regards,
      Suhail
From what i understand about your requirements. FZ is more suitable because you may never use the power available in P180 and FZ is a more stylish bike. eventhough mileage of FZ will be slightly less than P180, i think that should not be a problem.

+1,if u are not using the powerhouse of p180 play on the safer side and get a FZ
I used p150 dtsi ug1 for 6 years without any major issues.so IMO pulsar is reliable but not as good as yamaha.Yes the maintenance is little bit more than other bikes but inturn she gives u immense pleasure

            +1 for FZ.
at those speeds you should get around 45kmpl on the FZ (provided proper gearshifts). Its easier to handle in traffic. Even though its power is around 3 horses shorter than the P180, its got good amount of low end torque. Ideal for city conditions.

If you have no previous experience in owning/maintaining a bike, get the FZ. all you need to do is the regular servicing at the SVC.

I must say that i love my pulsar 180 but still going by your requirements i'd say you should go for fz....
My friend is getting 40-42 kmpl with his fz and i guess thats ok...also on the reliability point, fz wins but not by a huge margin i'd say...
all in all i believe the bikes you've shortlisted are different in character so i'd recommend going with the heart....

I am not the owner of any of the bike mentioned above, but i rode both of them for at least 2000 kms.Now some points to be noted-
1.styling--FZ wins with a huge margin as its style is pretty new and innovative.
2.average--sorry both bikes failed to give more than 40km/lt to me at any cost.

                          so pick your choice wisely.

FZ is a good choice... butter smooth gears and an absolute pleasure on the corners.. won't give you any problem as long as you take care of servicing at regular intervals...

                              mileage:

                              splendor mode: 45-49kmpl
                              normal mode(70-90 kmph: 40-41 kmpl
                              insane thrash mode: 36-38 kmpl
