Sree congrats for booking the R15. Yes 38B1 is different from 20P1 and 20P2> the 38B1 model is being assembled in India, whereas 20P1 and 20P2 engine used to come from Indonesia. About the quality and reliability, I have 38B1 bought in March, 2010 and till date clocked 22134km with immense weather and terrain condition touring in hills. The only thing changed apart from the normal service requirement are the rear tyre at 19K and breakpads at 8k kms on ODO.Originally posted by sreerama View PostHi friends, finally i have booked a Blue R15. Its 138 series & does not have the refinement of 20 series but low end torque has been improved with vibration
. Still have a doubt about the quality & reliability of the bike as i see that they have localized the engine parts too i think

But inspite of this change the bike still runs very smooth and refined. The only few things which you need to take care in R15 is the timely service, proper run-in, proper care of chain/Originally posted by vishnups17 View PostSame here, what is this 138 series and 20 series??

-Congrats for choosing the R15.My requirements are
- Good comfort & suspension for short long rides(Not more than 100kms)
Know ZMA is known for its comfort like unicorn but will i get used to R15's posture ? Heard some saying once we get used to it its really comfortable.
- Mileage of 40-45 when ridden carefully & big no for mileage below 35 even when ridden constant at 90-100 & mostly i wont cross 100(95%) but if required should not hesitate to go further like 120-130 ( Heard R15 giving better mileage)
- I dont like 4stroke's engine rattling noise at high rpms or at high speeds after 20,000 kms or after engine getting hot in humid summer in chennai.
Does R15 score better in this aspect due to liquid cooling.
- Which has good engine life? Know that ZMA would last long for its low reving engine but how is technically advanced R15( I think old r15 users might answer this better)
- I dont mind of higher price tag of r15 but i want to make this change as final & want the bike to last for years & engine should be strong enough to sustain for tough high rpm gear shifts at times which i know is stressful for the crank.
- I mostly work in night shifts now & travel 15 kms where there wont be much traffic.
- But i may ride 80+ kms alternate days on highways & i am also concerned about my back. If you all say i can get used to r15's seating, i would go for that & i have planned to remove the whole front faring of it if i find it bulky to cut through city traffic as i dont mind look. SO is R15 flick-able in city if we remove the whole faring?
-Yes, I got used to R15's posture in 5 minutes of test ride itself and I'm a long guy like you, 6'1".
-R15 has been used by tourers for long enough now. It will last good enough. For reliability, performance, mileage, etc, some years later you can get parts made by Joel, a Bangalore member for R15 itself.
By flickability, you mean due to weight reduction, right? See, the fairing change will not be recommended by anyone. Reasons are:
1. You'll lose on aerodynamics, wind related stability and top speeds.
2. Even if you lose the bike's weight, you'll lose only 4-5 kgs, which is negligible to make any difference.
A better idea is to remove other things rather than fairing.
3. After removing the fairing, where will you keep the headlights?
4. After removing the fairing, the protective mesh for radiator will also have to be removed I think. That means any stone/ pebble hurled from your front wheel will cause damage to radiator.
I don't recommend that you remove the fairing. Even professional racers keep the fairing intact. Try other weight saving methods, like Joel's silencer which will also increase performance. May cost around Rs. 5-6000, not sure though.---

I am not sure if 20p are still around. You will be lucky to find one now. Keep checking out the chassis of all bikes :Psigpic
