  • Is it worth upgrading to ZMR?

    Hello All,
I currently own a ZMA which i got in Dec 06.
I am currently evaluating the option of selling this one and getting a new ZMR.

    Need inputs on the following:
    1. What would be the approx resale value of the bike - (maintained very well, not a single scratch. Battery changed very recently, no problems whatsoever)

    2. Is it worth spending the additional amount for the ZMR (over and above the resale price of my current ZMA).

My daily commuting would be atleast 35 kms. Need help on this guys!

you won't feel like you have upgraded to a much better bike. seriously speaking, it is not an upgrade.

if you wan't an upgrade and that too not too costly, go for CBR250.

I don't think so, The ZMR is just a ZMA with FI and rear disk + full fairing. If you aren't too impressed with it's looks then I'd suggest you hold onto you ZMA as you'll loose a lot of money in this transaction from ZMA to ZMR. A 2006 model ZMA is a 5 year old bike, you'd get about 25-30k for it and a ZMR costs around a lakh so it's 70k gone down the drain and you won't feel much of a difference power or handling wise.

I'd suggest you hold onto the ZMA and extend you budget till a CBR250/Ninja 250. I haven't ridden a CBR250 in traffic so I don't know about it's maneuverability but the ninja 250 was easy enough to manage in traffic.
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

You might get around Rs. 35000-40000 or so for this bike, if you approach the right customer. Also depends on your location/ city.

I strongly suggest that do NOT go for ZMR, in exchange for your already good Karizma. You're loosing too much money for almost nothing added.

Basically, very irrelevant add-on features are added to ZMR compared to Karizma, like the GRS Suspensions, Tubeless tyres, fairing, rear disk brake, all digital console, etc.
Only one thing is added to the performance, and that is the Fuel injection- you will get better mileage (by about 5 kmpl than Karizma) and power due to it, but its expensive.

A much better deal would be RTR 180 or Pulsar 220 Naked or the CBR 250R. Yes, CBR would be good enough in the city for you, if you have managed Karizma(!!)...

If you modify your Karizma though, you can get a change in ride and performance, that too within Rs.10,000. You can contact "Joel" for that.

IMO, your ZMA can easily fetch 40k and No...dont go for the ZMR. If you have the budget, go for the CBR 250 or wait for the upgraded R-15

consider p220 its best for city and also for touring.

                  Tejas,
Very interesting and thought provoking question BUDDY
Now here goes my billion dollar question.

Why do you need a change?

Upgrade to ZMR is WORTHY in some case.
Again UNWORTHY also for some reasons too.

Your ZMA should fetch Rs 40k plus/minus Rs 5k depending on your location papers etc.
34567 kms and ZMR sold :(

                    Parth, Samarth, Vivek -
Now I am clear, getting the ZMR in place of my ZMA is clearly not worth it.......
CBR 250r looks to be an excellent bet....i inquired with the Honda dealers here in Bangalore, the waiting time is 5-6 months...perfect for me to arrange for the extra finances!
Will test ride the 250r shortly and update...

Abhishek - I am not really a pulsar fan, so i think i will stick to the CBR option...
                    Thanks a lot guys!!

go for nothing below CBR250..I myself ride ZMR but i won't suggest you to go for a ZMR after selling your ZMA..if you would have been buying a new bike then ZMR was worthy but as of now in your case its not a worthy upgrade..

only new speculated R15..not current one cuz that according to me won't be an upgrade..

@topic - Nothing below CBR250 is worth upgrading..ZMR will almost feel same with slight increase in power which isn't worth the money u'll spend on it..R15 delivers power in different band as in lower revs it'll feel weaker to your ZMA but on higher revs it accelerate quicker n vice-versa for A180..P220 you aren't considering(which even i won't suggest you )
