  • From yamaha fzs to which one?

Hi all xbhpian. I need your suggestion for my upgrade.
I am using yamaha fzs for past one year and my previous bike was HH cbz xtreme. The problem is I am not satisfied with fz's performance because of its weak top-end. Basically i always love to travel long distance around 200 kms every weekend. For this requirement, what i feel is fz is not good. So I am in need of good bike with touring capabilities.

In my last upgrade i made wrong decision i.e from 150cc(HH CBZ-X) to 153cc(FZ), this time i dont want to do this mistake again. So please recommend me >150 cc bikes.

#My budget is around 1 lakh..
#In week days my usage is 20 kms only..weekends is 200 kms..
#fuel economy should not less than 38-40..

    Bikes in my mind..

    ZMA-R, ZMR, AVENGER , RE C350..

Only thing in my mind is, next bike should be proper upgrade from fz..

I really love to ride my motorcycle. When I want to just get away and be myself and clear my head, that's what I do - Kyle Chandler

you may also include p220, if not p220, then karizma would be the best bet, a touring machine as well as decent top-end.
If you can expand your budget then r15 v2.0 would satisfy all your criteria.

IIRC,The Karizma ZMR(PGMfi) retails over 1.15Lakh rupees(OTR) and the classic retails over 1.2Lakhs(OTR)!
So we'd all be safe to assume that these are out.
Since your usage is primarily touted for touring, then the avenger would be your best bet as it has greater fuel efficiency compared to it's heart donor(Pulsar 220) and Bajaj also categorizes it as a tourer!
        Next comes the 220Positives-power,headlight,brembo's.
Negatives-(not necessarily a let down!)With every twist of your head, you find a Pulsar,I found the gearbox to be quite tricky on the 180(9K kilometers old) as i needed to use more muscle to slot the gears efficiently.

KarizmaPositives-Very smooth bike and sounds good too,
        BTW,awesome gearbox!
Negatives-The HMC dealer near my home quoted a waiting period of two months!!,no tubeless tyres!

        RTRPositives-Great power delivery,great gearbox,headlight,brakes,Blue back-lit Digital console.
Negatives-Zero pillion comfort, vibrates like hell and poor quality of the console!

Thanks for your pros and cons details of the above bikes...Due to vibration problem RTR is not in my list...

I will purchase by finance option, So i can manage 10k-20k extra..
          Now there is two confusion...
1.Apart from some features and pgmfi what is the real world mileage difference between ZMA and ZMR?
          2.How about touring capabilities of R15 v1 and v2?

You have to ride in weekends, so why don't you go for RE std. This machine got the balls. And a ultimate touring experience.

Yes RE is good option for touring..But i heard some issues in reliable factor..that too in modern twinspark engines..
And also no showroom and proper ASC in my place...

Those are IMO only. If you have some plus points over RE please let me know..

Ya, its true that you need to maintain a lot RE, but the pleasure is ultimate.
I have driven RE for 3 years and moved to P180 last month because I have to ride 80Km daily now.
P180 is also a good option. The performance is just amazing.

                  These are myths!
An RE would probably require a bit more maintainence than the Plastic bikes(no offence!)....but the current Gen RE's(UCE) are all very reliable!
Also,RE bikes are waaaay more comfortable than most bikes(Personal experience as a pillion!) and are cult bikes......they are like the Pulsar with their Maniacs but only have 10X the number of followers and worshipers

If you can digest the waiting period of 10+ months for the C350 then don't think twice as they come with the 55 watt halogen bulbs as opposed to the 35 Watt ones on the TBTS,E-UCE and STD 350 and look afresh
You have to test-ride the behemoth to experience the Joy!

BTW,they all have good FE figures i.e,above 30(exception-C500) which is a boon for tourers like yourself
But i cannot comment about your conveniences(ASC whereabouts et all)

If the main purpose is touring then an RE is the ultimate buy....although it can be a pain in heavy traffic

Just wanted to give a small suggestion.
If you are planning to buy RE, then why not 500 cc version, it has very good technology and higher power for a very small price difference...

And moreover, no matter how many new versions of RE come... no matter how old your bike is... it will always turn heads... its a legend... and its coming for real low cost...

There's atleast a few RE mechanics every city... if you search for them you'll definitely find some fine mechanics...

Another plus point of RE is you would be having a very good pillion seat... in case you wanna take your family members(especially ladies)... this is a fine bike.

                        ^^ +1 to that

i would definately recommend the 500cc one,but he is already on a budget of 1lacs which he is stretching by 20k and the 350cc one is also not bad, gives the same comforts with more mileage just lesser power.

If u r looking for a good TOURER bike than ZMA-R is the One for u. Though u may have to compromise on few artificial things. But as a package no-one can beat it as its a proven tourer from years.
otherwise u can go for P220 but reliability may b the issue.

it wud b better if u test ride these bikes

Hmmm... i dont think p220 is a unreliable bike... its just that people dont maintain it properly... but other thing is pulsar UG4 will be replaced soon... so, you better wait for UG5 in november...

On the other hand i feel karizma is outdated... no offence...

Nor do i,its just a normal observation. I feel that a roughly maintain HH/Hero bike will run equally smooth than a well maintained Pulsar. Ya its about maintenance and all,but bajaj bikes seems to demand it more.
not sure about their next upgrade :/, neither interested

May be, but not from my point of view, untill unless its craze is gone. its a LEGEND,and legend dont get outdated....
