Honestly, the R15 is still the best bang for the buck machine. A few tweeks will make it a pocket rocket that nothing else can match. Razor sharp handling and the most spot-on sporty ergonomics package. CBR has a killer engine, but everything else is a let down. My development work on the CBR is already due and a part of it has already started. But I have never seen a bike transform so well after mods, as much as the R15. Our souped up versions are N250 killers. Let alone CBR. Reliable, yet bloody fast. The CBR is a superb tourer tough as the handling is more VFR inspired and hardly any CBR spec.

Do it straight away, well give it a week or two, just to check if there is any issues with the bike, they become apparent fairly soon, then go for the full blown kit if you have the cash, it will be more fun than doing it in stages. Then you will have a very quick bike, more than enough for the majority of roads/riding conditions in the country.

The term "WARRANTY" is only for the books. The R15 is a very well built bike and the quality of the internals are top-notch. While tuning a race engine, we work on a brand new bike, as the tolerances and level of the components are perfect. Most people wait for covering a certain kms or finish the first year of warranty to tune. I find it purely illogical and only a sentimental attachment. World-over, people buy brand new cars/bikes and send them to tuning shops for attachments, but in India everything has that garland connection. Engine performance deteriorates with age and abuse. Tweeking a brand new engine means, you have a perfect valvetrain, a perfect crank, clean bearings and everything else to make the package a dynamite.
if you are planning to go for a bigbore, it makes no sense in running-in your stock block or engine.

                  Decision has been made !!!

Thank you all, i've made my decision, I went and booked my bike today.

Joel thanks a ton for your valuable opinion, for me this is what tilted me in the favour of the bike.

I'd like to start with the FFE first and then eventually move on to the big bore only cos i wanna see the gradual change in performance. Will be contacting you soon.

Even I am in same dilemma, just for records I am head over heal in love with V2.0 looks the only thing which is holding me back is my big frame, I am not sure how me and bike will look as a unitary whole.

@anhil8r: Hey dude, how are you doing? How is your white beauty is doing? What color you have opted for the bike? If it's a white, man I bet you, yours will be one hell of a good looking garage.

That has been nicely put Joel. And yes, before geeing up for answering the TS, you'd already shown him the right direction. Having ridden both R15 and CBR 250R to their full potentials, R15 is the clean winner. Because every one loves mental peace at the end of day and this peace factor is directly linked to quality aspects. Yamaha is any day over Honda. The latter has to learn a lot from the former instead of piling up quicker profits.

Joel, I am gonna ring you up soon man. Was busy lately.

@TS.. good to know you booked R15, but few people like me did suggest you to wait for a month so that you can take a look at Duke 200/revamped pulsars.

                          Just for your reference
                          200 Duke - Highlights - KTM

Looks like Duke 200 is going to make 25 hp with a dry weight of 125kg. That spec is really intimidating.

But anyways, R15 isn't a bad choice either, it's an excellent machine. Moreover, with Joel's tune-up it should be much more fun.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this. As thediscussion has anyway moved towards R15 mods, here's a short observation.

I got my R15 (1 year old) Joeled last week. Got the big bore kit and the free flow exhaust along with change in the Air - filter.

The greatest pain-point was the run-in period of 500 km with revs not going beyonf 5000k. Somehow, managed to complete it without any trouble. The bike now pulls better through out the rev range. Just tried revving hard in 5th and 6th gear which took me to 143kmph indicated speed. And the road ended with still a lot of grunt remaining.

And coming to the most special aspect I noticed: After the run-in, I checked the mileage from tank-full to tank-full. And 8.04 ltrs of Speed petrol had given 439.5 kms giving me a FE of 54.6 kmpl . Although the mileage might reduce after the run-in (as I might rev more), I still believe I would get 50kmpl easily which is 10-12 kmpl more than what my stock bike gave.

Can't stop grinning. Thanks to Joel.
                              Thanks,
                              Gowri R.Varadhan
