Going for an Enfield (1988), need suggestions.

Hey Guys...I am going for a Royal Enfield (1988 model). I would like ur valuable suggestions on a few aspects,

a.) What are the checks to be carried out while going for a bike?

b.) I am buying the bike from my village and would be getting it to Mumbai. Would you guys tell me as to how I should get it here, by Rail or by Road (In a truck).

Any kinda feedback in this regard would be appreciated.

inspection ? you need a good bullet mechanic or some experienced guy(bullet) to check the condition of engine.if engine is OK ,rest we can repair easy.Obviously ,few thinks like leaks between head gaskets are a direct sign of a careless owner.

            Hi Saurabh!

Hey man, about the checks, go with what Pradeep suggests & for some basic checks that you can do:

            1. Check the compression-try budging the kick lever without using the decompressor lever, a Bullet with good compression would not budge even with a guy of 70kg standing on the kick starter.

            2. Ask your friend to ride the bike in front of you & then see the alignment of the wheels.

            3. Plus, just move the bike back & forth & see if there is any noise coming from the wheels or the gearbox. If there is, then it could be something as simple as the breaks getting stuck or something serious, so better still leave it.

            4. Check for any sort of leaks from the engine, avoid going in for a bike which shows such oily tears.

            5. Finally just ride it & ride it some distance, because an engine will tell its most inner secrets once it gets hot.

            Take care.

            Happy thumping,
            Prakhar

                  DEpends on the condition.
If there are no major works to be done - then its good.

                      well saurabh

                      15k is a good deal.

but ye be ready to spend another 20k , yes an enfield has to be in top notch condition, otherwise dont buy it. its not just another bike

Oil leaks are there with an enfield, you have to live with it.
please be sure to check the clutch
the bore , the tappit , drive chain.

you must have the engine inspected by a good mech (who esp in bullets)
cause a single engine redo will cost you 12,000 at least.

                      - piston and rings
                      - bore
                      - connecting rod
                      - valves
                      - cam chain.

also be sure that oil level is good enough. run a an enfield without adequate oil, and you will fry the engine.

a good paintjob is at least 6-7k, and chorming the engine and other parts would at least be another 4k.

be sure the battery and charging is present. an enfield wont start without a battery.
A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

Rightly said by Desideep. but you will have to ride it atleast for 5 - 10 kms to check in proper manner.
