  • The Duke dose.....

    Hi fellow Bhpians.

I am from Goa, currently riding a RTR 180 which is two years old and run about 16-17 K km till date. I also have a first generation P 180 and a Hero Honda Street Smart. I am not quite a guy who will sell a bike for another one, but with the KTM 200 I am feeling the pinch now.

Now if I had too trade one bike for the duke 200, which boils down to the RTR only because of the return cash I would get, how sensible is it? I surely wont trade my street till the end of my life. But would i really need the P 180 if I get the Duke 200 home?

I am seriously hard on cash at this point, besides I am planning to get Lehed this year which also translates to a lot of money. And will the Duke 200 count as a good bike to Leh, Ladakh?

    I just need help brothers...............

    Query approved.

The bikes you have currently are no match to the KTM 200 when it comes to performance, it is really way ahead of RTR and P180 in every department, be it looks or performance. So it is definitely a desirable upgrade for anyone owning these bikes.

So if you can afford all the bikes at a time, then do it.

If you can't, don't be greedy.

      KTM200 for Ladakh :

      + way better in performance
+ its Fi (less loss in Power in high altitude)
      + lesser weight
      +better suspension

      - its small tank
-lesser fuel efficiency - (meaning less range)
-high compression ratio (susceptible to fuel Q)
-low slung exhaust (may cause issue during nullah crossing)
-With no SC may not be easier to fix with all those gadgetry

IMHO - Save money for your Ladakh trip and take your bikes . 1 Pulsar 180 and Apache 180 went with us in Ladakh last year and both had no issues .So don't worry.

KTM200 is a street (city) bike not offroad bike as many mistake it to be.

        No Service Centers for KTM???

IMHO - Buy Apache or Pulsar 180 and keep the rest of your money for Ladakh trip. 1 Pulsar 180 and Apache 180 went with us in Ladakh last year and both had no issues.
please read properly, he already has those bikes and he is not asking whether Pulsar/Apache will give him trouble while going to Ladakh.

dukes are to be serviced at probiking[ now turned into ktm showroom] .i don't think there is any at ladakh.are dukes good for touring ,we will only know after 6-7 months.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

              I feel less confused now.....

Nelson, Sayank and Sunil bhai thank you for those inputs.

Nelson, as you said KTM doesn't sound that great for Ladakh in terms of practicality. and as Syank mentioned it would be an issue in terms of service in case of a breakdown.

Sunil bhai, apka point sahi hai, may be i just shouldn't be more greedy, but kya kare? More is never enough.

Are Sunil bhai, just that i remembered, did u upload the pictures?

Thank you a ton brothers.... have a great day.

Why do you want 3-4 bikes, if i would have been in your shoes, i would have sold all three- Pulsar, apache & hero honda, and would have purchased KTM200.

                Do one thing-
                sell Apache RTR180 for 40,000/=
                sell Pulsar 180 for 20,000/=

you have 60,000/= in cash with you. do the downpayment of 50,000/= and take a loan for rest. you still have 10,000/= with you - which you can use to purchase a bigger tank for KTM as an accessory, if you think 10L tank is small.

                  May I suggest something ???

You can dispose off one bike and keep the other for the mountain (Ladakh) Trips.

As suspected by many in this forum, KTM may or may not be suitable for Ladakh. Still, if you can manage, go for KTM also.

I seem to have sattled now......

                    Thnx again fellow bhpians.

Well, as you said (prince), makes less sense to have all the bikes, true, very true, but all the bikes i am stuck with have a reason. The Hero Street technically is my first bike, i learned on and from it, abused it, and by the grace's green light she never said enough. I still like her for a very obvious reason.

The P180 (1st generation) came into my garage with a cause again, i got only to ride it on one wheel. I agree that I don't do it that often anymore, but I am still stuck on it. Besides the price proposition doesn't stand for this old bike.

The RTR 180 is again a story to tell, with all the factors included (specially the price) i chose it over the competitors. And I personally like those hard on the throttle kind of machines. The butter smooth get away thing is not my kind. I like the aggression in the RTR.

And now with the 4th beauty in the parking lot, my mum's gonna kick me out of the house first, then the neighbors (as my bikes take a lot of parking space).

So what I have decided it to let the excitement settle. Let time pass and then decied on weather I realy want the bike or is it just because I am a KTM love and all that crapyness in my head.

And with that hope Abrakadabra has also got the point in my mind now.

But in all, thnx to Sunil bhai for making me think over. Being too greedy isn't to good. Coz if u wanna be bad.. u gotta be good.......

                          Hi Folks....

Even though I always look at performance on a machine first, I was just curious to know what the fuel consumption is on the Lil orange 200 is, as I don't get to see any articles on this subject.

                          Appreciate your inputs.....
