Usually all the SBK's get lifetime part supply for the bike i.e generally companies stock it 15 years-20years from date of production so its easier to order online or if not it can even be custom made but at a cost!Originally posted by Enthusiastic View Post

actually here in lower segments there is so much parts sharing among the siblings,that spares are found easily.
e.g pulsar,rtr,hmc siblings.and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

That's not a lame reason at all, if you consider that most of my vehicles have crossed the six figure marks. I am not even consider engine parts here. Hmmm. True sayank, thats in your view point but then all the siblings will slowly change hands too right, like after 15yr we really wouldn't be having any bikes or sibling using really old outdated parts. What you are saying is like FZ uses parts from RX100. So what i actually meant here was that on a sports bike, cost is iterative, so if it costs 60000rs to get a silencer then they'll have to spend it.
But for a lower segment bike , like say the pulsar 2002 model, in another 3-4yr it will be difficult to find the gun silencers and do you think its viable to manufacture very few spares and keep stock, considering cost of production and less quantity demand for it, the pricing will have to be high and if you tell ppl it has to come from a warehouse somewhere in calcutta or chennai, ppl will rather tend to go buy a secondhand than a new one as its cheaper and he wont have to wait. That's what I am saying here.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

..This is also a reason I have a good belief in Bajaj bikes. I never faced such a trouble in my 11yrs of ownership of Caliber. Got the block-piston even after 5yrs the bikes was stopped from production.
And kawasaki's provide assured parts backing, which is why you could find the part easily also considering there were lakhs of bikes sold, and it was just 10yr or so back, its really not difficult getting it.
But I cant tell the same with pulsar, a friend sold his 2003 bike for scrap as it was too costly to overhaul it.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

That was because Bajaj Platina and Kawasaki Bajaj Caliber (I know this because I had a Caliber) shared most commonly required spares. Your friend probably sold his P150 because he was bored of it. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
