  • With a lakh for budget

Hello All, I am in dire need of a good bike. Budget : 95k~105k

What all I need in it: (Prioritized)

    1. High speed
    2. Handling
    3. Cheaper Maintenance
    4. Mileage (Doesn't really matter)

Would be using it mostly for touring.

    My considerations are :

    Used CBR250R or???

    I currently ride a P220 Dts-fi.
....Riding the Indian Monster : 200NS....

Pulsar 200 NS... Thats the best upgrade for you and in your budget.

FZ and Fazer iam so sure you wont downgrade from the bike you are using since you are habitual of having idling at 10,000rpm.

Forget ZMA and ZMR since they overshoot your budget.

R15 a good buy but then budget shooting by 17-20k.

CBZ and HUNK = downgrading performance from your current steed.

You wont go back to APACHE iam so sure.

The left over is the Pulsar 200NS, will be avaliable around your budget only. Wait for sometime.

Biru is selling his CBR you can contact him.

@Mods you can close this thread.

you did not leave any margin for anyone to suggest him anything else than yours :P
Though I second you, Pulsar 200 NS has to be it

For all the hype that P200NS is getting, I hope it doesn't end up as a damp squib. But yeah, in the current scenario, P200NS is your best bet. However, you might want to check out what exactly the new Apache is.

your situation calls for extension of your budget.
and the question remains why do i race?

hold on to the 220 and wait for the 200ns, another option would be to joel your 220 as i beleive it is nt very old.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

                  which bike?

is someone saying the fastest indian is not having good speeds?!!?
Didnt got your question at all as high speeds of 220 is better than the budget you are looking for..
The handling is also good and regarding maintenance, though it is higher in numbers but cheaper in amounts.. If you need to change two chainsets of a pulsar and one on a r15 the costs would be similar!
For your requirements ride what you have!!

Utsav my friend. Try using this on your P220. You should get it at 3M store in Pune. I know only one at Baner - Sus link road.

Another thing to note is, you have a 50km(return) daily commute. Are you sure your bike will be used exclusively for touring? PuNS *should* return better FE than a CBR (going by Duke numbers). BUT it will have a slower top speed than both CBR and P220 DTSi (As per magazine reviews). Also we must never forget how a bike reaches its top speed is more important than the actual top speed itself. How does it matter anyways if you are running 5 kmph slower?

And the Hottest News of all:

                    Ride Report:

                    Engine is of KTM 200cc.
0-60 acceleration is nearly same as of 220s.
Accelerated to 114 pretty fast. (It goes faster, I couldn't test the topspeed though due to traffic)
The gear box is different. So is the seating position.
The tank is quite big (i assume its for greater range)
I truly envy the lock set. Its just too good.
The petrol tank lid looked nearly the same as 220F's
The sprocket is much smaller than the KTM
I forgot to see if it was carbureted or another Fi. (Sorry)
I felt the handling somewhat like a Fazer but a little smaller.
I think cornering wouldn't be an issue in these.
Most importantly for Indian roads, they have an amazing ground clearance.
Additionally expect a price of 97k to 1.2L INR on road. (As per the riders and their test guru)

They did not allow me to peek-a-view of the bike under the cover
@Others his bike is NOT the Fastest Indian, but the old P220 Fi AND he has been facing a bit of an issue with his bike which we have been trying to rectify for quite some time.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.

His bike is having trouble crossing 100kmph without crouching. (100kmph on 2007 P220 == 108 on 2008+ P220). Didn't try to max it out while crouching so that bit only Utsav can tell. The engine (45xxxkm old bike), as of now, is smoother than my own bike (37xxxkm old bike which does 129-130 without crouching) so I cannot say what exactly is the problem.

                            didnt knew about the problem..
First about fuel injection cleaning, as you have posted, try bardhal fuel injection cleaning by adding quarter bottle in your fuel tank every 3000 kms. Its available at tata motors service station, its the best you can get.
                            customercare.tatamotors.com/service/fuelAdd.asp

Second- the most common problem with top speed is the clutch- try installing fresh plates.. The first indication of clutch wear is reduced top speed. Also if you are using very high friction reduction engine oil, try any semisynthetic oil.

Third- Were the tyres upscaled.. That may be one reason

Fourth- Was the chain and sprokets changed recently when the issue surfaced, using sprokets with lesser teeth or more teeths (dont remember exactly) can reduce top speeds.

                            Got too much off topic!!

                              Using stock size tires

Using P220 DTS-Fi Stock sprocket. The bike should do a top end of 135-139 on stock DTS-Fi Sprockets

And thats definitely not off topic.
