Do factor in the part replacements costs of CBR Vs Ninja into your decision if this needs to be costed out properly..

Else if money is no bar then Ninzzzzzaaa

Thats the only thing keeping me off the Ninja - i can afford it but not the 27k for the fairing!!! Plus the showroom guy said that the 0 Dep policy is no longer available since 31st march. Not sure of this though - he might just wanna push through his insurance guy. Though it has been 3 yrs since i had my last spill (touch lappy) can't take any chances.
The CBR cowl is approx between 2k and 3k according to the salesman-- much more affordable.

Ok! I have an update now.
Today at 10 in the morning i was getting ready to go to the KTM showroom to pay up for the KTM. Had dropped the Ninja as i didnt want to spend 3 lakhs right now. Will upgrade to a 6xx cc bike after some time.
Thought of going to the Honda showroom to test another CBR test vehicle. Did that, and liked it much better than the previous test ride. Thought long and hard. The KTM was a youthful city slicker while the CBR seemed like a true replacement for the battle wearied 220. I decided to take the plunge!

So today - i paid up partially for the CBR 250R RED - Delivery on tuesday.
This june - its gonna be a Red CBR scaling up the taklangla

Officially (ie wifey thinks) the 220 will be up for sale.
But then, me and my T20 have this unspoken winky winky agreement

Congrats on the CBR250R since the decision is already made.

I'm late in this thread but I would have advised either the KTM + P220 combination or the Ninja 650 for you.
          1) KTM will make you smile everytime you ride that bike while on long tours you can take the ageing P220 for the time being.
          2) Ninja 650 will keep you happy for a very very long time. Has loads for power for any kind of usage, the pillion seat is very decent for long tours and you are a safe rider to not think much about the crash expenses.

Ninja 250 is not a good bike to tour with a pillion and I'm not saying anything about the CBR250 since you already decided on it.

            Thanks!
Yes - the KTM -- 220 combo was something on my mind too. Thats the whole reason i had booked it in Feb. But the only problem was that on long hauls i want the bike (220) to do more - even a recent run to faridabad with wifey on the new road was painful. A hunk (solo) guy out accelerated me
The newer versions of the CBR 250 have addressed the quality issues to some extent and the big bike feel made me feel good There, at the showroom - the red CBR spoke to me in Hondanese -- i was convinced.

The 650 is on the horizon -- the moment i make the switch to pune - (no point in getting a gurgaon number here) - which should be within 1.5 years now.

Sensible enough and by that time you might have more options in and around that category

My P220 feels very slow these days but the TOS will keep me alive for a few more days. After that I don't know what to do

The Ninja 250R is the most natural and proper upgrade for a P220 kind of guy. But the high price tag puts off many potential upgraders. Also the Ninja 250R is more of a solo highway mile muncher and will be out of place in terrains like the Himalayas.

The CBR250R seems to be the logical choice for now.

Yes - maybe one of the KTMs coming could do the job too. Also one of the reasons i started discounting the Ninja 250. Leni hi hai toh baad mei badi waali lenge

You can't say that ! You keep testing the newest bikes

Yes - CBR wasn't really something which set my heart racing (till yesterday) but it was logical, cheap, efficient and got the job done reasonably well.

                    Congrats!

You have left the Dark (read: Fun!! ) side to join the plain ol never go wrong Honda side

I'm sure if the KTM had a larger heart and thus more torque it would have pulled a few more strings

Ninja 650 like MG says is the best upgrade, even I think so too but then 5+L for a bike is not the size of my pocket at the moment. So 220 Jai Ho!

Hopefully in a year's time I'd be posting a similar thread

PS: For your rides, I'd suggest switching to a dual sport for the rear atleast asap. And I hope you've booked the ABS?!?

KTM is a special bike - but very focussed on one aspect
Have booked the Std - reason being
                          a. Its almost 1.9 on road -- The Ninja -CBR gap would have been very less.
                          b. Havn't had a fall in over 3 years -- i am being cocky
                          c. Test rode both the versions - Couldn't find any difference !

Taking inspiration from Kurtrules here - he did it on stock tyres too. Lets see how much trouble it gives! Yesterday - justified it by thinking "log toh M80 pe bhi kar lete hai"
650 is something else - But then -- home loan bhi toh hai Time lagegaa.

Hopefully there will be more options by then to lessen the complication of zeroing on your next bike.

Darkknight did Arunachal on stock tires where the terrain is much tougher than Leh ladakh. It depends on how fast or how slow you want to go
