  • Need Reliable Electric Scooter

My friend need an electric scooter.

I have no expertise in electric so I'm posting this here.

She wants to travel 50-60 Km a Day. can an electric handle this?

Location is Bangalore, Planing to travel form South-End Circle to Electronic City.

Please tell weather electric is the right option or not.

Please help with dealers in Bangalore.

The YO EXL is the only Electric Scooter which I find worthy of the title 'Scooter'. The rest are just electric bicycles which happen to look like scooters.

The website says the range is 70-75km, so it should be able to do 50, not so sure about 60 for long term.

Do work out your cost/km w.r.t. petrol, considering battery replacements every 1.5/2 years. Because it might happen that petrol may turn out to be cheaper (not to mention the convenience of just filling up anywhere without worrying about remaining battery charge).

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Not recommended.

An electric scooty or a cycle for now is good enough only for short travel within your house vicinity like going to provision store, atm etc. On a full charge the vehicle returns about 70kms if you drive the bike at slow speeds and flat roads, without burdening the DC engine this would mean a single charge will give you about a weeks ride around the vicinity of home.. Cool! This actually works out cheaper than petrol vehicles where short ride consume more petrol and even petrol evaporates. Here a battery lasts about 300 charges or 2 to 3 years depending on maintenance.

But now coming to the continuous drain part, riding almost 30km at a streach at full speeds causes a drop in voltage, this will gradually kill the battery cells. and how you ride will on regular full drain cycles give about only 200 charge cycle optimal performance, later due to constant overload, some cells may stop storing charge.
Immediate effect you see will be the drop in initial pickup and top speed, so people will try to accelerate more and more burdening the remaining cell blocks. This will result in further death, Slowly the range of the scooter will drop from 70 to about 20 in around 6-7 months.

Considering a replacement battery is close to 10k, for that price you can get about 5500km from an petrol replacement like activa/dio etc.
If she travels to office for 20 days in a month, she will use this amount for about 6 months. Petrol is easily available to fill every where, and petrol vehicles are more reliable and powerful too.

There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Thank You and no more queries about 60 KM Ride

Will it be good for small rides 20-30 KM

Heard TVS is launching a Electric. Have any spec about that?

Don't go for electric scooters! Trust me, I was advocating them till mine worked. But once a problem creeps up, boy you are screwed. No service centers to compare the repair charges, you have to take their word as the last on any service/repair charges. No one else has a clue how it works, so you CAN NOT get it repaired anywhere else. A simple matter such as puncture will waste your entire day because no puncturewala will touch a tire that has electric connections growing out of it!

I suffered a lot because of wifey's electric bike, and her Aviator made me a happy man once again! Trust me, it's many more time a hassle than it is a convenience. Be a good friend and brain wash your lady friend for at least a scooty pep, if not activa/aviator/access etc.

I am also not very sure of an electric scooter's reliability & easy maintenance. Scooty Pep is much better option, in my opinion.

Electric Scooter is best for school going children only. I got one for my daughter and she used is to its optimum for her school days (and coaching classes) and her school was hardly 1-1/2 kms away. Now it remains almost idle at home as my daughter has entered college and she has refused to ride it. Besides, the battery cost is huge. Overall it is not a cheap and hassle free ride at all. I had to rush from office early whenever it got punctured during her school days.

Not recommended for adults at all.

"Reliable Electric Scooter" in India is an oxymoron. Enough said.
Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

It's better, you and your friend stay away from this need.

Battery will get heated more if you ride an electric vehicle more than 4-5kms continously.

And that too 50-60kms ?? This is a really mad choice!!!
Don't you think even your electric bill would be high, this all types of vehicle take good time to charge.

Any time a bad option....Infact ask her to learn a bike and buy a 100cc Platina. I think this is super slim bike with good small height which will give excellent mileage and her issue will be solved.
If don't want to learn bike or ride a bike then shed some money intially and monthly for petrol and get a mopped.

India is not so advance for elctric vehicles. There was a mopped launched name YO bikes and that was a blunder!!! I have seen many old people riding it in Ulashnagar and they all were crying!! charging issue, in traffic it use to get heated!! Blah Blah!! by chance any pillion than it was a suicide!!
Don't waste money in electric bike
