  • RE Old or New or Something else??

I currently ride a Yamaha FZ. In 20 months have done more than 30k on it and love this bike. But ever since I got the FZ I had my eyes on the RE Classic. I was demotivated by people from getting a Bull as im just 5.7 and weight around 65 kg.
Now after nearly 2 years of riding on the FZ i want to get a RE or any other tourer as my second bike. But i have few things in mind which i want to clear up.

    1) Should I get a new RE Classic 350 with waiting period of around 6 months or go for a second had RE or look for some other tourer(in the same price range)?

    2) Even for a second hand im able to find only Electra's at between 65-90k, 2000-2010 models. I like the Electra but only after the Classic. So if i get an electra, can I change the seats and the rear mudguard of the Electra and fit in the ones similar to the Classic?
(Im not keen on getting a second hand RE Classic for around 1.4k which people are selling just months after buying.)

So guys your inputs will be much appretiated.

Mods, I dint put the query under http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bik...-ask-here.html as im open for suggestions on other bikes also.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Sincerest advice. Stay away from second hand bullet. RE Classic 500 is the machine to own, no doubt.

as it is going to be your second bike why not wait?... you have your fz to ride til the RE comes in anyways..
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

8-9 months waiting for Classic 500

In mumbai Classic 500 Black/blue maroon have a waiting period of 2-4 months and Classic Desert Storm and Chrome has a waiting period of 4-6 months only.

And Classic 350 has a waiting period of 9-11 months.

But i will suggest you for Classic 350 because it will deliver around same mileage as FZ lol... 150vs 350 RE is preety smart now!!

As you have done more than 30k in just 19 months so i am suggesting Classic 350 else if you are plannig to keep FZ and go for some tour type or occasionally than it would be Classic 500. Remember Classic500 delivers between 24kmpl to 29kmpl.

Decide wisely considering the petrol hike too and in future hikes too, very soon it will be Rs100/liter petrol

If you are a relaxed rider, then go for a CI engine used and get this completely done with a reputed mech. if you are not ok with the right gear then go for electra 5s, you would enjoy it.

2nd hand is always a problem, as you will not know the previous owners usage (abuser or a user) if he had abused then stay away, there will be few genuine riders, who would take care of their bikes like their own kids. (dont go by the outer looks only).

if both the options does not work out then book a RE500, am sure you will have a waiting period, but speak to the dealer and am sure there would be somebody who would have booked some time back and now would have thought about cancelling the booking, the dealer can help you get these deals without any extra money.

Any of the RE's you buy, am sure you would be proud of owning one.
Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

ya even i dont want to go for a second hand... have CL350 in mind... spoke with the dealer here in Adyar but he says if someone cancels then the person next will get the bike, so no ways to break the queue...
if anyone has any contact in any of Chennai dealers then that i might help

I guess you can't...Because RE has some Strick protocols, a showroom with in that area limits only can sell the RE to customers within that area limit. If you want it from mumbai than need to buy it from anyone residing here lol..a relative will do.

I was in the same doubt as you except that I an 5.11 and well built

Anyway I got new classic 350 black for about 1.22 lac and beileve me its a bliss in everyway.. from riding to its looks to what you feel while riding it

I would say go for new classic 350

I got it in 2 months... if. You are from any suburb then you will get it in 2 months with a bit of jack and revisits to RE office... and if you are from any metro then go to the nearest suburb...

One day, I will take it easy. Today won't be that day...

Ya a test drive for a kilometer itself was enough to get the Classic ...
A town near chennai is delivering Classic in 2 months but i dont have proper ID proof for that area... so have to get from Chennai only...

That's really not a problem.. just use the green card to have that proof... if you know what I mean..

Giving bribe is not a good thing but if its for a noble reason like getting the classic 4 months sooner then that's not a bad thing :P :P

Btw you can also use any of ur relative address who lives in the area.. or there is also a thing like Noc or transfer or any thing like that.. though I am not fully fimiliar with this concept but you can have it if your state is same

Registering in someone elses name and getting it transferred to a different RTO is a very big headache as it requires NOCs from both RTOs and stuff, so not gonna take that route... however need to check if the dealer can do something... Will talk to him next week and see...
im a little against bribing so will try to avoid it though it is for a good cause
anyways trying to check feasibility of getting it here in Chennai itself, who knows something good might turn out ...

You can buy any vehicle anywhere in India and do temporary registration in the RTO of the showroom area/location. Then take the bike to the RTO of your location and have the permanent registration done. This is legal.
