  • Bike for my dad

    Hi to all.

My dad is 62yrs young he is been using Rx 100, Cbz classic, Cbz extreme, Yamaha Fz-s(currently). after cbz classic he doesnt keep/use bike more than 2.5yr.
his needs are bike should be powerful enough atleast 150cc and reliable engine. budget is upto 90k.
i have suggested apache 180 abs , and pulsar 200 ns. but pulsar 200ns will be available here(delhi) by next month as i have queried from some bajaj showrooms.and he got thru mechanic that resale value of apache is not good. mechanic suggested pulsar 150 to him but i dont want him to go for pulsar (except 200ns)because of maintenance and non reliable engines of pulsars(i have used pulsar 180 and i know how much i spent on it).
please suggest some bikes.its on urgent basis.

    thanks

    Thread Approved.

Your dad's decision on sticking to motorcycles even at 62, is worth appreciating. Hats off! It reminds me of my dad, who is 57 too and he rides a XCD 125.

But, Apache's Riding position may not be too comfortable for your dad. And, P200 NS breaks your budget slightly, its around 95k.

Consider Unicorn and its Dazzler variant. Reliable, very much in your budget, good ride quality from that Monoshock suspension, etc.

BTW The engines of current era's Pulsars are reliable enough, if you maintain them. I have a 2007 model 180 myself, and its rocking even today. I don't know if your experience was from an older bike (before 2004 or so), but for 2012, a lot has changed... Give it a thought..

Thinking out of the box, when my father turned 62, we got him an AT car. Motorcycles have too many controls and too little time to react.

If your father is adamant on a motorcycle, make sure it is a proper upgrade overall compared to what he rides right now. Even some RTR180 owners will agree that at current prices, the 200NS is a much better deal than the RTR180 ABS.

You could also try the Karizma R since it is a very comfy bike.

      Anyways, Happy shopping.

Apache's have a really aggressive riding position, so better skip that. The best option you have is a GS150R, relaxed riding position and best in class.
With respect to riding comfort alone I would've recommended the ZMA cause you've provided a budget of upto 90k, but since you're dad is 60+ he might not find it comfortable i.e with respect the semi fairing and the niggles that follow.

        2013 ~ 2014 Bajaj Discover 100 4G (Sold at 16.5k)
        2015 ~ 2017 TVS Wego (Totaled at 18k)
        2015 - Bajaj Pulsar 220F (Currently 31k) < Garage Queen!

Agree with Ashwin on the RTR front. It is nimble, no doubt; but the aggressive position might not suit your dad. Suzuki GS150R is a good machine with 6 gears and blah blah blah.... Check for SVC outlets nearby. But, its heavy.

I think he can opt for a ZMA too. Its almost the same weight as a GS150R, and gives decent performance. As for niggles, they're omnipresent, aren't they?

But if your Dad wants a Two wheeler then OH MY GOD!!!

            Lets Think !!!

Got it, Avenger would be great deal, as it's more comfortable and reliable engine too P200 one's!!

Engine is a gem because it has proven him self frompast more than 3 yrs and we see tons of P220 and awenger on roads!!

            +100

Car would be more sensible in such age, Alto K10/Alto would be nice decision.

              @Samarth 619

thanks for your appreciation..ya he loves to ride bike.

extending budget 5k is acceptable but problem its not available till july and we need to get new one by sunday.i have thought of unicorn but it looks aged. but your point of considering dazzler is actually quite good.

              @antz.bin

he himself told me to checkout karizma R but i feel that he will not be very much comfortable on it because of semi fairing. using a car is much better but he is not comfortable in car driving.

              @ashwinprakas , Divya Sharan

your point of apache rtr's position is the thing which i never thought of.in which you both are acttually very much right.i was looking for apache just because of ABS and 180cc engine.

              somen1984

avenger i showed him but i guess he will not be comfortable on it because he have never used a low height seating. i suggested my dad but he is denying but will suggest him to get a test ride.

thanks to all .Bikes which i shortlisted from all of your point :-

              Unicorn Dazzler.
              karizma R
              avenger
              suzuki gs 150r

tomorrow will go for a test ride and will let you know about the decision. thanks alot guys for giving such support.will confirm you very soon.

From top bikes, the bike that you can get easily is Awenger and GS150r. I have heard that Unicorn and Dazzler mostly goes on waiting period of atleast 20-25 days.

GS150r is an excellent VFM. So if your dad don't agree for awenger then he can go with GS150r. But still i think Honda would be nice, specially unicorn. as it's a proven bike with no issues, rather than Dazzler.

Get hime somthing relaxed... something torquey . Avenger is good light and comfy. ZMA is good too very stable ride and good torque. Get machines with cruising capability. . I bet he will love it

Kudos to your dad... Just 62 yrs young and yet willing to ride a powerful machine and not just another commuter on roads...

Comming to your bike query, what about Bullet standard !!? Nice powerful and reliable engine (yeah, you got it right. new engines ARE reliable ). comfortable like hell. no other bike can match the comfort of RE. and above all, it will suite his age too. It's a symbol of pride. A symbol of showcasing to world what 'I' possess or what I've gained/earned so far. it's *respect*... (for a moment, leave aside those youngsters/pozzers getting one for JUST sound/attracting public attention)

the only thing is you'll need to slightly increase your budget... i guess you won't mind doing it for your dad...

PS: Please excuse if I'm sounding like a fanboy. But believe me I'm not...

bullet might be a bit heavy during parking and moving around with use of hands

May I suggest P135 or Discover 125ST? Why, breathes better, within your budget, has quite a punch within it's category (I don't think he is looking for a drag with P200 NS, Apache, P220 etc). 125 ST is still not launched, I guess.
Go with something which is not sporty in stance but should have enough punch to put a smile on his face.

Parking requires just a right technique dear friend... and a person having biking experience which is more than our age must be knowing it...

ZMA is a best choice if your dad wants power along with comfort otherwise Disco125ST will do the job..in between both bikes there's GS150R & Hunk as well which you can look at..

your dad has been riding a lot of bikes-
                              1. its time to rise above 150 CC
                              2. bike should have good amount of torque. (bhp and speed is excluded considering his age)
                              3. good handling and stopping power.
                              4. should have style statement or atleast something above 150 CC class.
                              5. comfort
                              6. easy to handle/park on center stand.
                              so i would suggest-
                              • bullet (looses on 3rd and 6th point, still your father may like it)
                              • ZMA-R (good choice)
                              • Avenger (even better, as it will be more comfy)
