  • Karizma R to CBR250R ? Good Upgrade

    Hi All,

I have been riding the Karizma R for the last 3.5 yrs and done 50K + Kms on it so far. The experience has been more satisfying so far. I have been considering an upgrade to my next bike. I am thinking abt CBR250R (ABS) Model. Budget not a constraint. Not interested in pulsar 200NS & RE CL 350/500. My rides are 95% solo.

My daily commute is 60Kms a day (home - office - home). Of the 30Kms One way, 22 Kms on the highway which i usually cruze on my Karizma >= 6K RPM. i maintain speeds of 90 - 115 on my odo. 120 comes with little more effort. beyond that it doesn't accelerate fast.

I did test ride the CBR250R for a very sort ride < 3kms. I didn't accelerate much as i had the showroom rep as my pillion. I felt it is was more like Karizma. I am not aware of its high speed capabilities. Would it be a worthy upgrade ?

What is the comfortable cruising speed on CBR250R (ABS) model for a solo rider. i am just comparing it to Karizma where it cruises @ 6k RPM @100 Kmph on the ODO.

    Appreciate your inputs.

earlier i was also having karizma r have done 15 k km on my karizma in 3 years .

then bought cbr 250r std last year and completed 1 year last month wid 5 k on odo, i am really happy wid it and i always enjoy riding it.

my suggetion would be close your eyes and goo for cbr you will love it
great pick up gud crusing speed on highway easy to commute in city for daily use.

you can easily cruise at 120 kmph to 135 kmph on highways wid more power left.

you will not feel its doing 130-140kmph at that speed. its like you crusing at 100kmph.

top speed you can do 155 kmph +

and yes its worthy upgrade from karizma r .

you do 110 currently? You will gain 30kmph extra of comfortable cruising speed i.e. 140kmph. top speed is irrelevant.

Overall the CBR is a great upgrade from your bike. Go for it.

the only other option is the Ninja but then maintenance cost/harsh ride/use in city is an issue.
        Regardless, Life shall go on.

          Thanx for your inputs.

Ninja was on my consideration. But 3 Lacs kept me away from it. Had it been for same price of CBR250R, def would have considered it. Afterall the best selling motorcyle (250cc) in the world.

Since you both own CBR250R, could you please tell me about the comfort level ?

I read on many reviews (Auto Magazines & Online reviews) that the riding position is somewhere in between commuterish & Extremely sporty (R15). Have you experienced any stress on your hands (or) back ?

Go through post #7500 & #7600 from CBR 250R ownership thread; it gives you a very good idea of what you can expect from CBR 250R. If it matches with your expectation, you're good to go, otherwise keep waiting for your perfect bike in mind.

              Friend,

speed>140kmph will you drive all time?? And are you a tourer too ??

there will be a difference between the ride quality for sure, but do you really need it ?? When you say budget is not a constraint then why not a Ninja, it will be a sure upgrade!
223 cc and 250cc, FI Vs carb, power Vs >power, and first of all ABS !!!!
you are owning a Karizma so i would recommned you CBR only for ABS!! Else Ninja only.

Why don't you consider RE 500 because it will be very different change in you style and comfortable. But if you are keen on high features then CBR!!

But i don't see any much upgrade in your ride?? riding >120kmph are really occasional, i don't think even a CBR owner just keep riding at 140kmph all time as they touch Highways??? It's only the feel that you have, a power below you which when throttled would reach to 155+kmph anytime when required.

Apart from ABS and Top Speed think again for CBR?? ABS is indeed a nice feature! a reason ABS is also a 100% genuine feeling! bit that too in speeds only!!

I would request you to wait and purchase NINJA, which is very different in riding and everything, but it won't be that comfortable in riding posture, but you will get addicted too. Still a Question for you my friend would you still buy a >3L Rs two wheeler(when you have 3L to spend)?? (nothing but passion Vs practical choices)

Thanx aargee. I have been a regular reader (if not daily) of the CBR250R ownership thread. I have gone thru almost every post. Bit don't recollect the 7500 & 7600. I guezz it should be FAQ's. I will anyways check

My perfect bike would be Honda CB400R. Twin cylinder air cooled around 35 - 40 HP. Priced around 2 Lakhs . May be i am too greedy

I m in the same hunt

                  Hi there,
Even I have been riding ZMA for the last one year. Done 8k. I think CBR is a perfect upgrade from zma. I am going the same way. CBR has good low end(good for city riding) & midrange suitable for highway cruising. The riding position is not that sporty. You will get used to it. ABS is a great safety feature. Go for it.

Yes, the CBR250r is a worthy upgrade from Karizma. A comfortable cruising speed would be 125kish for a Solo ride and you still have lot more power left. Go for the ABS it is money well spent

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.

It was not that far on the map.

I am not a tourer. As i said i commute 60 Kms a day of which 45 Kms on the State & National Highways. Very good roads. I could cruise on my Karizma @ 115 Kmph beyond which it struggles. So i think 140Kmph on CBR should be fine atleast when the road opens up.

there will be a difference between the ride quality for sure, but do you really need it ?? When you say budget is not a constraint then why not a Ninja, it will be a sure upgrade!

not more than 2 Lakhs My parents & my wife already ditching me when i told them i would be getting the CBR250R

223 cc and 250cc, FI Vs carb, power Vs >power, and first of all ABS !!!!

2 Values & 4 Values . Thanx. I would like to experience ABS

Why don't you consider RE 500 because it will be very different change in you style and comfortable. But if you are keen on high features then CBR!!

I have already ridden Bullet Machismo 5 gears for 15K kms. I wasn't really happy with the experience. i ride my bike to the merit & not to the limit. However with lil more revving than usual.Though i like ONLY the looks of CL 350/500/TB.

But i don't see any much upgrade in your ride?? riding >120kmph are really occasional, i don't think even a CBR owner just keep riding at 140kmph all time as they touch Highways??? Very true. If the bike can do 140Kmph comfortably on a open stretch of road, i wouldn't hesitate to push it. Def not beyond that.

Apart from ABS and Top Speed think again for CBR?? ABS is indeed a nice feature! a reason ABS is also a 100% genuine feeling! bit that too in speeds only!!

Good Point. Yes. i would like to experience the Life saving feature if not the premium feature of Motorcyle

I would request you to wait and purchase NINJA, which is very different in riding and everything, but it won't be that comfortable in riding posture, but you will get addicted too. I would have bought Ninja had it been for around 2Lacs (Manufactured in India). I don't like to pay 1 Lakh to the Govt in the form of import duty.

                        lol...
If ninja comes in 2L then R15/CBR/Duke market would get close!!

I guess some where Ninja is @ right place 3L.

And brother you have already made your mind for CBR so it's open and shut case!!

CBR ABS WoW !!! a kool bike for all needs!!

                          Yes.

I guess some where Ninja is @ right place 3L.

Ninja comes to India in the form of CKD, which attracts 40% duty on the import price. Hence it is >3L on road. Else should around 2 Lacs.

And brother you have already made your mind for CBR so it's open and shut case!!
Not really. Because we don't have choices in 250cc category under 2 Lakhs. If there were 2- 3 bikes in this category around the same price, then there would have been lil hesitation deciding. Here it is one sided.

Do post your bike pics and dealer goodies and exp !!!

My purchase will be in the next 6 months. Planning to take it on downpayment rather than the EMI. now in Saving mode . I wanted it to be an informed decision rather than last minute rush.

Which color in mind??? - Red

Reading your thread reminded me of my delimma which I was in few months back. Let me share my experience to you.
Even I owned (still own) a karizma for 5 years & over 85k kms with some touring. While & before my purchase, the cbr thread used to be filled with lots of problems & issues experienced. More in the initial lot, but it seemed to be improving for some & I wished to take the risk. I got the cbr due to lack of choices, budget constraints, low maintanence, performance, speed & most importantly a 'practical' bike. Though, it turned out to be a perfect decision for me. Yes, CBR is certainly an update over the karizma in terms of control, speed, touring abilities, superb low end for traffic & amazing acceleration for the overtakes. Its indeed quiet practical, I use it everyday for office, on highway & in heavy traffics or for touring or a short spin. To mention here, the pillion seat is quiet comfortable. The speeds you do on CBR are more controllable, relaxed on engine & much stable then a karizma. The fuel efficiency is almost in the league of karizma. The best thing here is the servicing intervals. In karizma you might be doing it on every 1800-2000 approx kms. But for CBR no need to worry for 5000km gaps on an ease. Its been almost 6 months & around 9k kms, am using CBR everyday & waiting to ride it more until i reach the 3rd service. So far just had one problem, i.e. Coneset defect. But they where replaced at over 6k kms free of charge & minor niggles like little vibrations in the front, but it was fixed as well for free & promptly. If the road permits, you can easily ride within 120-135 comfortably & relaxed for the bike, with more power & acceleration left in hand. No problem for the above speeds with luggage or pillion as well.
Though, if you can buy & maintain a Ninja.. Then no second thoughts, which is a FACT. But I would considering getting a little bigger bike if I could manage that much budget.
Some things which you may miss at times is, the relaxed seating position of a karizma. On the CBR its not too relaxed, not too aggressive. But after karizma, feels little sporty here & I like it.
Am happy, enjoying & glad I bought the CBR. Worth it.!

Not to debate, but asking out of curiosity, can you help understand how pls?

An oil filter "Made in Thailand" on CBR 250R doesn't exceed Rs 300 while the same "Made in Thailand" on Ninja 250R doesn't cost less than Rs 500 odd.

I only see one difference that Ninja 250R is assembled by BAL while CBR 250R is assembled by Honda India & yes, few non critical parts of CBR 250R comes with "Made in India" tag.

Above is my understanding. Can you help justify the 3L, keeping aside the best of the world titles etc pls?
