Keep old bike Or get a new one! quite confused!
A Little History about the bike .Its a 2001 CBZ belonged to a friend of mine who dint use it much after he got married.. Sold it to me about March-April 2011 for about 12k. It had done about 28000km at that time .. I had to get a new tank for about 5k and a new set of tires as it was running on the original Dunlop Geo cruisers that came with the bike in 2001 .. another 3.5k... Well iv mostly learnt on this bike had quite a few falls on it.. nothing major its got all its parts for 10 years ago except for the above and a cd dawn head lamp and the small here and there with the falls... I quite enjoy the bike but iv been iching for a new bike... Im not a person who likes spending but i was wondering if it is "Worth" keeping this current cbz and doing her up.. Im interested in converting her to dc and replace the worn out plastics all the side panels. As far as i can tell the chassis looks to be in good condition . Also the engine has been losing compression.. the kick just goes down with ease when starting and quite often just cuts out in the middle of the road until warmed up completely.Once warm no issue are there with pickup as such.. It could be the valves or piston rings but I am not sure..

Query ApprovedAdvice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

if its not consuming oil, i would keep it.
For sometime, i will feed it with system g or bardahl gasoline fuel additive. The smoothness will improve.. And will also not keep you stranded on cold starts.
After this treatment i would give the engine conditioning from an fs oil (motul 300v preferably) for two three oil changes (10,000 kms or so).
if the bike doesnot improve in performance i would give it an engine rebuild or sell it off. In 12k you stole a good deal. I think you can manage to sell it off at a similar price even after these treatments.

The way I see it, you bought it for 12K and already spent another 12K (well almost) on it for various upgrades. You did say it was 28k kms on odo, how much did you put on after that? Keep in mind that now this is 10 year old bike, you will surely have something or the other to replace. With the things you mentioned, if you do proceed with repairing & mods, you will spent another 5-6k easily on this. It's best if you get rid of this and go for a new bike.Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

Thanks for the speedy approval antz.bin . As of now she is inst drinking oil.. I'm running her on motul 5100 currently. Iv done about 2000km on that oil and I hvnt seen a drop in oil. she currently is at around 38k. In the last 4-5 months iv had an issue twice where the bike refused to start and both times the mechanic removed the spark plug put sum oil/petrol and gave a few kicks and the bike started up fine which is when they told me low compression. Also the fact she will be due for green tax in 4 years or so.

I think you can maintain this with little more money and effort and keep it. Als you need to mention the mode of utility of the bike, are you using it for day to day commute? I think if you are using it for 5-10 km of daily use for going to office etc, you can keep this bike, selling will do no good.
If you like to do long travels, tours or commutes of daily 30+kms then just close your eyes and sell it and go for a new bike. Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

As it is already 10 year old and you want do the engine work, I think you can sell this one and have peace of mind. If you try to keep this then you need to do the engine work and spend some money and if at all, you want to keep 2 years more after doing the engine work then another burden comes on you, the 15 year re-test process is approaching then your bike value will go less and you will have sell her very cheap.
It better sell it in as it is condition and a buy a new one.
There were times when people were after the brands like Ambassador and Maruti Esteem but now you won't get the value they had few years before. Same is with CBZ and RX-100 types. Since new bikes are in the market, the value goes down as more and more new models appear.

i would rather say sell it.and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.
#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
#overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road
(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Hey thanks for the replies.
Ok Im going to leave the bike as it is let it run.... Till I pick out my next bike... Im looking at something that can give me the comfort and thrill of my current cbz.. If better why not. I do have a pillion rider every now and then.. But thats only for short rides.I totally in love with the Duke 200 but i don't like the fuel economy and the fact the pillion seat uncomfortable and its quite a bit over my budget. This bike will stay with me for a long time.I had my eyes on the discover series the Yamaha sz series. I love the TVS Apache 180 ABS... only for being the cheapest bike with abs and dual disk breaks.Iv ridden a Apache 160 FI and enjoyed its peppiness.
And to be honest even a cd dawn would for fill my needs and save me a nice bit.
Before i picked up this second hand cbz . I nearly bought a discover 100(i was on a extreme budget back then). The bike would do a once a year trip to Goa.(iv been saying ill do it for the last 2 years but something always came in the way).
This time I want to buy something I can enjoy for at least 5-7 years if not more.
I do approx 10-15km a day... fuel efficiency is a priority and im looking at atleast 50-40ish to the liter..

I think in your case discover125st offers bang for the buck.Except for a tacho you don't regret the decision.
My another advice is to sell of the bike when it is in ok condition rather than in pathetic condition. It will offer you more money(If you get a genuine buyer).
AFAIK except for non availability of spares cbzs are well built and will offer a trouble free run.I may be wrong.Whenever i see bikes or cars i see adrenalin pumps instead of people carriers.Thats the way to define an automobile.

you don't expect too much from your bike, so...
buy a new bike, as its actually time to replace that old and ageing bike, but only if you can afford a new bike without putting too much financial strain...
otherwise...
maintain this till you can maintain without spending much and till you can afford a new bike.
simple answer.

Mileage is just one criterion and overall represents a vague picture.Originally posted by joshdsy View PostI do approx 10-15km a day... fuel efficiency is a priority and im looking at atleast 50-40ish to the liter..
Pour in more factors like the budget, major area of your rides (city/highway), your height/weight etc and we shall confuse you with options.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Best option would be is to participate in any contest & win a motorcycle; that way, you don't need to spend, keep your CBZ & at the same time get a new one too
That no one can answer but you because there're few things that can't be expressed in numbers; sentiments for instance.Originally posted by joshdsy View Postbut i was wondering if it is "Worth" keeping this current cbz and doing her up
Same answer as aboveOriginally posted by joshdsy View PostNow my question is it wort spending to do her up or get a new bike
I take that, in case you decide to forgo CBZ, that would call for numerous questions as what is that you're expecting in a new bikeOriginally posted by joshdsy View PostIm not completely sure which new bike
100% agreed; its very simple when one thinks straightOriginally posted by princesirohi View Postsimple answer.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Simpe Sell it before it goes for scrap!! Now we have more better CBZx, though old one has better looks. But new one is good in everything.Originally posted by joshdsy View PostA Little History about the bike .Its a 2001 CBZ belonged to a friend of mine who dint use it much after he got married.. Don't put money on this bike !! becuase after restoring too it will sell at very low cost.Originally posted by joshdsy View PostNow my question is it wort spending to do her up or get a new bike. If you re ready for RTR 180 it means your budget is approx 95k, as RTR ABS comes for approx this price, go it, else NS200.
You can keep this bikes for 5-6 yrs with out any issues, NS200 is from bajaj with low servcing cost. RTR 180 ABS is anytime a cake in 90's K
Now you decide ride it before going for it!!
