  • I am planning to book Pulsar 200NS....I need some clarifications, please help

    Hi

I was very confused of buying a bike for over a month now and now I feel I am slowly getting clarity as to which one i should buy.

I am a 6 foot tall guy, averagely built and my initial thought was Yamaha FZS because of its killer looks and handling(i am a huge fan of Yamaha too). Then when I heard that the mileage is very less and some of my friends have got mileage of 20kmpl, 25kmpl, I dropped the plan and thought of going for Yamaha SZR. I went on to read the reviews and was disappointed about the power of the bike and pickup and also the mileage for the power it gives. So i thought of going for FZS, compromising with the mileage. Untill I came accross NS200.

The first impression was not great because I personally dint like the design at the beginning(my friend had bought blue one). Then when I saw it on the road,it caught my eye and thought that was it the same bike which I saw earlier. Its looks were awesome and the yellow one suited it. Then slowly, i was inclined to 200NS from FZS. Then I thought I will test ride both and decide.

    Test ride:
I rode the blue NS of my friend and was amazed by the pickup and the engine smoothness. I was not that comfortable with the seating position, because I am used to the Pulsar 150cc bike, which my brother owns. I think I will get used to it in sometime. I experienced a skid during the ride and thought it was my mistake as I applied brakes of the vehicle. Then when I was reading the posts, I got to know that the Eurogrip tyres skids even in dry roads.

The next day, I TD a FZS and thought the handling was better than P200 but pickup was nowhere compared to p200, it was very less i thought. I like to race through signals of Bangalore, so i thought FZS would somewhat restrict me. Then I decided to go for NS, because of the power it has and the Bajaj trust. The mileage is 35-40 as per users and is acceptable for a 200cc bike.

    Need clarifications on the following:

Now I am almost certain Ill go for NS and I want to clarify a few things.

    1) Has the Bajaj changed their mind and are giving MRF optional tyres for the buyers?? Atleast if we are ready to pay extra, will they do it on the first delivery itself??

    2) The pillion seat was one more concern for me, since I am plaaning to keep the bike for atleast 5 years and I will be getting married within 2 years and my wife should be able to be seated comfortably. I tried sitting in my friend's NS pillion seat and found that it is vvery high and although I was able to climb up, my wife would be able to?? and also will the pillion get the back pain and feel like to fall from the bike???

    3) If the Bajaj are not giving the optional tyres, I am planning to go for the MRF Zappers. I got help from one of the XBHP members and I was told that it would cost me 2k more after the resale of the default tyres.

    4) I want to know the OTR price in Bangalore? and the waiting period (I am planning to buy the RED one), considering that I am paying by EMI.

    5) I cant pay full amount and have to go for the EMI plan, so what will be the DOWNPAYMENT. The Yamaha showroom told that the downpayment is 30k for FZS. So I am guessing it would be more. But how much?

    6) I have heard some complaints about the vibrations and I could not ignore that, I want to know if anyone faced it and if so, at what speeds?

    7) Can I expect the same mileage if I change the tyres to MRF Zappers? Or will the mileage decrease?

    8) I will be travelling 55km daily, so is the bike comfortable for that?

    9) If you are a P200NS owners, what is the current mileage and the ODO reading?

    10) Any other cons I should be aware of?

Please bear with me for the long post. It would be helpful for me as well as other buyers if these questions are clarified.

If u like P200NS then why not KTM is the question i want to ask you?

few views : the tyres on duke 200 are suicidal as well and they are mrf!!. if u get pirelli or michellin with same profile or one size up it would be good, fuel efficiency wont be affected, however if you upsize a lot then it will affect your FE and acceleration and pickup

From perspective of pillion comfort and considering you are 6 feet tall, the karizma or the zmr is also a nice perspective, fuel eff of karizma would be around 30-35 and zmr would be 40-45 in city. both these are adequate tourers and can serve your purpose. but have been in the market for quite some time and if newness is what you looking at then dont proceed with zma/zmr

Thanks for your view. But my budget was 65k initially and I have extended it to 1lk So its not possible for me to increase further for Duke and ZMR.
Got clarifications on some points, but need confirmation on others as well. Please help me with your views guys

@TS, why not post these queries in ownership thread for quick turn around, queries are only about 200NS, so I guess you can post these over there.

If you are going for sticky tyres (read better grip), I think mileage & pickup will go down, may be not by huge margin. I don't think Bajaj is providing any option for better tyres at dealership, at least not for now.

First when you have thought for NS200 then it's nice over FZ any time. But when you talk about Racing from signal, then any Duke/CBR/P220 will smash you to ground while racing in city i.e signal to signal. NS200 is same like R15/Ninja funda, low at lower RPMS and Blast in higher RPMS.
And it's not a racing bike either, on highways any R15 or CBR150/250 will take to spin, becuase it's not stable post 120kmph due to wind blast.

Do you think so ?? Unless untill complains break their mailbox, they won't change it. No authorised dealer will do any cahnged which will change the original company protocol. Get it set by outside, but use it for some 5k kms, control your racing instinct for a while untill you change the tyres.

No that won't be much problem if your future wife don't have problem of climibing the hills.

Don't change it so quickly, use it to for some good Ks 1.e 5-10k and then change it, for then please control your wrist.

Is your friend outside Banglore?? if yes then ask him the price, it will +/- 5ks. in mubai it is 98000k.

Why don't you ask the showroom guy, he will give you better idea and exact figures, else visit any banks website and drop a mail for bike lona, ex- HDFC.

Mostly if tyres get better grip then existing one, then surely their will be a drop in mileage, but how much that depends though!

If you are planning for 55kms daily then i suggest don't go for any bike >150cc due to mileage aspects. Go with GS150r or SZr or some good 125cc. NS200 will give you an average of 35-40kmpl, and it's pretty less for daily 55kms d aily. It will surely effect your pocket on daily basis as well as you are buying it on EMI.

Direct this to Ownership thread, but Owners have claimed from 35kmpl-50kmpl as well. But you should take a decision with respect to 35-40kmpl, anytime above this will be a bonus.
Originally posted by rogersharath View Post

Direct this to Ownership thread, But Surely you will enjoy the ride in city as well as highway till 120kmph, But it's not for 55kms daily bike, becuase it will effect the mileage constraint. If you have money then go for it. else opt for some goos mileage and average speed bike, Trust me you will be more happy on those terms.

I am a R15 owner and ridden all bikes, But when it comes to average apart i have to settle down at 42kmpl. which effects me daily as i travel 40kms daily. But feel is feel, When R15 runs on highway then i forget all and enjoy, SO there are plus as well minus. So sit back and decide again. with your priorties most.

May I ask WHY? Have you ridden pillion on it?

Am asking this since as a Pillion I had found, the pillion seat very comfortable. The position of the foot pegs - to - seat relationship, seat foam material all is very comfortable.

Ladies sitting sideways might face an issue due to the high rear seat though.

The suspension setting is on the harder side but the seat quality is good. The pillion doesn't slide around but that said bumps are felt

Eurogrip provide similar grip as MRF zappers. If you are going for Pirelli or Michelin then you will get better grip

There is a specific vibration which comes between 5-6k. But rubber gromets have been installed around the tank area as correction. Not sure about the improvements after that, read the ownership thread for that

Yes very much. I have done 800-1000kms in a day quite a few times and I didn't feel fatigued after the ride

                        Hi Sharath,

I bought a 200NS in Bangalore almost 1.5 Months Back, I am completely Happy with it.
For your Doubts , MG is spot on most of them I would point out my opinions from my small experience

The pillion seat is good enough, I had traveled this weekend with my wife for 300KM, without big breaks.
Her opinion was the seats are comfortable than our Classic 350 stock seats.
Regarding climbing up might be difficult for view for the first couple of days then they would get used to it.
No backpain issues or feeling of falling from bike reported so far.

You can get Zapper Q,REV-Z, or as a matter of fact you can get Pirelli Sport Demon also in the 130/70 configuration, I am planning to change my tires in another couple of months. That being said EuroGrips are good enough for our daily use.

I paid 1.05Lakhs including center Stand ,Teflon Coating( Not necessary, you can get 3M at the same price), and some accessories.

Waiting period for EMIS they would take something like 4 business days for the finance arrangement with Bajaj Alliance. Should get with in a week. Plenty of Reds are available.

They require something close to 45K as down payment when I asked, I went for the full payment later on.

Please bear with me for the long post. It would be helpful for me as well as other buyers if these questions are clarified.

No offense, or any hard feeling. But do you have anything against bajaj or the 200ns??

The 200ns is a game changing machine. It has its share of niggles. True. All bikes do. Frankly, when the man is looking at vehicles like the fz and ns, plain janes like the dazzler or extreme don't really stack up. Not saying those are bad machines. They just don't stack up to the ones in discussion.

Do agree that 200NS is game changing and DAZZLER/XTREME don't stack up to this 200cc beast. But why not against FZ.
Because XTreme/Dazzler have better mileage, almost equal/better top end than FZ, silent/stress free engine than FZ, their silencer/center stand will not hit the bumps if two or more people are on board, have rear discs for better braking?
No offense meant - but seeing lots of posts proclaiming FZ to be king of 150's and bashing Honda siblings... If it had outright performance to beat other 150's then the claims would've been justified, which is not the case here....

Get the NS and ride it stock till June.... then change the tires.... because the Eurogrip have perfect grip on dry tarmac.... Come the rainy season... suddenly everything changes...
And let me clear another misconception.... MRF and IRC tires are equally shitty on wet roads... As some one said, get Pirelli .... Enjoy....
