  • help required to choose between boxer 150 vs CD Dawn

Hi I am new to biking. This will be my first bike. My requirements are as below. Previously I finalized CD dawn, but after seeing boxer 150 , I am seriously doubting my decision. Please help.

    1. I will travel around 900 kms per month inside city (40 km per day)
    2. Around 1000 kms per month on highways ( 200 kms to and fro every week)
    3. I ocassionally travel with pillion.
    4. I will also like some load carrying capacity in bike around 50 kgs.
    5. Will never ride more than 60 kmpl.
    6. Mileage - happy with 70. OK with 50 -60.
    7. I am of height 5 ft 10 inch. Weigh 90 kgs.
    8. Budget- Not willing to spend more than 55k.
    My questions are?
    1. Is 100cc bike enough for me?
    2. Is Baja boxer 150 a tough and reliable bike?

    Looking forward for your responses.

    Thanks.
    Naresh

Go for platina 100, you will get an average of 80skmpl. and When you are not going to exceed >60kmph then why to worry...
Even Boxer is nice but it's around 60+kmpl average, but i guess you don't need Boxer. CD Dawn is also nice in average.
My vote is for Platina 100cc

Will you really be able to contain yourself @ 60kmph once you hit the highway?
I seriously doubt it. At least I have never been able to keep my bike @ 60kmph on the highways. Its always above 90s and in triple digits

I would suggest you to go for a Boxer 150, so that you get something xtra on the highway. A 100cc is not good at all for the highways.

is boxer 150 a reliable bike

Thanks somen , heelgate for your response.

I did a TR of cd dawn it is smooth, no surprise in it.

For boxer, showroom guys didn't had a boxer for test ride, all I got was a complete look of a boxer showpiece. I also noticed their lack of interest in selling boxer. And showroom guys seriously lacked the knowledge on this bike. They didn't even had a leaflet of boxer.

Can any body post some info on boxer 150 reliability ,mileage and some personal experiences please. There are not much user reviews in internet.

          Thanks

what is the actual usage of the the bike, are you into some kind of marketing where you have to travel to places along with heavy items for job? just my guess...

            plz tell actual usage.

do you mean 50 kgs items along with you and sometimes pillion also with 50 kgs.?

bajaj boxer 150 is not a proven bike and bajaj has a very strong history of discontinuing bikes less than 150CC very frequently.
boxer 150 is not even listed on bajaj website. don't go for it.

hero honda (now hero moto) have very good, strong, reliable, long lasting bikes in 100-125 CC category that not only gives good mileage but are robust and requires least maintenance. proven thing, and it won't be discontinued soon.

so if you have to decide between CD Dawn and Boxer, CD Dawn is better any day.

i will suggest slightly better bikes like splendour, super splendour or passion, though i am not sure about there prices. honda shine is also very good.

Well if you are that good a commuter, then an honest opinion would be either go for Hero CD Dawn or Honda Dream Yuva .

Honda's Dream Yuva is new in the 100 cc Segment and considering a healthy personality, this bike should do wonders for daily and weekly(once) long commuting.

Interesting question, obviously you will lose on mileage with Boxer 150. Given that you are not going to go above 60kmph, CD Dawn seems to be the choice here. Another question is reliability, Boxer 150 is relatively new, so nobody knows how it performs in longterm. Going by Bajaj's last couple of launches i.e. P135LS, P220 dtsi that should be good enough. You can also take a look at Discover 100cc/Honda Dream Yuga & Suzuki Hayate. Look up the thread by MHG (now it's sticky in what bike section).

Don't know, but i will ask you to stay away from Boxer 150. Go with any 100-125cc from Hero/honda/Yamaha. They are reliable and trusted!!

                    CD Dawn anyday!!

Just curious, have you considered Honda dream yuga? This bike seems to fit everything you are looking for. Someone also mentioned the same above.

CD Dawn is the cheapest (and rather amazing) barebones bike you can buy, but do remember it has no self-start and this does raise a few issues (all are personal experiences with my Samurai):
                      1. Lesser mileage. You wouldn't switch off the engine at signals since kicking is a chore (psychological thing) and mileage goes down.
                      2. Slow start from signals leading to angry honking behind you, if you do switch off the engine and need time to kick start it.
                      3. Sometimes dangerous with pillion - if the bike stalls or is switched off, kicking with a pillion is hard because of his right leg on the footpeg interferes with the kicking. This also results in clumsy motion of your body that CAN lead to lack of balance.
                      4. Difficult to manage when loaded with luggage - I had a back-pack, a shoulder bag and a guitar on me when I was going somewhere and it was REALLY hard to kick-start the bike.

I'd pay more for a bike with self-start even if its a few grands more only because the above situations, common or not, are REALLY annoying when they DO happen. If you want to stick with the same engine from Hero, go for CD Deluxe, or else (better options) try Suzuki Hayate or Bajaj Discover 1004G.
Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

Go for Yamaha Gladiator aka Yamaha SS 125.

It will suit your height and also can pick a pillion with 50kg extra weight. And it will cruise the highways with good speed.

you can have a look at discover 125 st or discover 150 or pulsar 135,looking at your highway usage i suggest don't settle for a 100 cc or 125 cc.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.
