  • CBR 150R vs Duke 200 vs NS 200

    Same old question...
Read through multiple posts on comparison between above bikes, but still unable to decide.
I had the audacity to take my Splendor (10 yr old) to Bhutan and Spiti valley on bike trips earlier and plan to explore far and beyond in future.
Ultimate aim is to get to Khardung-La by next year.

Looking for a bike to regularly commute to office and get-away on regular weekend bike trips.
    Budget is Rs 1.25 - 1.5 Lacs
    My height - 5.5

Leaning towards the CBR 150R but consider it overpriced when compared to the Duke.Concern with Duke is the high rise pillion seating and lack of service centers.

Request fellow bikers to advice on the best bet !

Absolutely nil knowledge on pricing and it's capablity.
CBR150 is not only priced right but it worths that price.
CBR does 130+kmph with out any stability issues, which is not the case with Duke, Duke is a naked bike and it's good for City not for highway high speeds. This is the major difference here. Top of that Honda Badge is what makes it priced at that price.
Duke is no doubt a nice bike, but not for high speed on highways. People do take it to highways but complain on high speed unstability too. It don't have a fairing.

To do daily commute and K-Dun-La ride, th ebest is RE , CBR 150/250, NS200. GS150r, FZ.

If you are not mileage greedy then CBR 250, else Duke or NS200.

un faired bikes have issues only post 115kmph , so if you are fine with 120kmph then go with Duke, it has all the features a person/tech freak needs, else anytime CBR 250 @ 1.67L.

      Choice is yours!!

If FE is of no concern to you then by all means go for a 200+ bike like CBR 250R/200NS/Duke 200.
Else settle for R15 v2 or CBR 150R.

Best get a TD on the ones that you have shortlisted and then decide.

I would nt admonish you for thinking CBR150 is over priced. Unless you absolutely need the fairing I dont see why you should not be buying the Duke.
Internationally its KTM that is a premium brand over Honda. Duke 200 is priced at par or above CBR250R elsewhere except in India where Bajaj has managed a pricing coup, providing international technology at right price. Considering that, CBR 150 does look overpriced.

Take test rides of all the bikes you have shortlisted and unless you would be really speeding down the highways frequently at tripple digit speeds, I dont see why you should look any further than the baby Duke. If indeed you want a faired bike then why not the R15? Reports talk of R15 being a better performer than the Cbr150 and much easier in the city too.

Well said vibbs. No brainer CBR150R is overpriced but is not outperformed by R15. CBR150R has very nice 60-100kmph acceleration and reaches 100kmph almost 0.8s earlier than R15 thanks to its 1bhp more and a DOHC engine. If magzine reviews are something to believe then it outperforms R15 even on th braking front. But R15 is a better handler ofcourse. But R15 is VFM in front of CBR. If ur looking for sheer VFM then Duke/NS200 are ideal choices.
            Whats there in a signature?

Quoting from Overdrive comparo of both the R15 and CBR150

              VERDICT
The CBR150R costs Rs 1.27 lakh while the R15 costs Rs 1.25 lakh (both ex-Mumbai). Both bikes look good, even if the R15 is a bit dated. The build quality too is pretty much the same. When it comes to performance however, the R15 is clearly the winner. It accelerates harder, goes faster and corners better. The CBR150R on the other hand is more efficient and more comfortable to ride. Sadly for the CBR, these are not qualities we look for in a sportsbike, whether entry level or not. So essentially, if you buy an R15 you will have a quicker, faster, better handling bike for Rs 2,000 less than the CBR. A good deal if you ask me.
              Interestingly Autocar says the opposite.

For me though, the fact that R15 makes its peak torque and power at lower rpms than the cbr150 R, seems it would marginally be better in the city. You have much more useful torque at lower revvs whereas the CBR would need to be revved high to extract power. A back to back test ride would settle the matter I guess.

KTM however with their pricing of Duke 200 has I think given a new meaning to VFM.
              Its not always about speed.

if you have the moolah settle for duke 200,if you are in the mood of saving money buy ns and use the saved money in buying riding gear.
touring speed usually varies between 80-100 kmph, unless you are a speedy-tourer.
duke would only pose problem on windy days or 6 lane highways.
i say go grab that alien in orange, worth every penny.
ktm's fit and finish is better than honda imo.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

Somen is spot on in regards to High Speed Stability, right now I am on Running In period of my Duke, dove 500 KMS! ,so cant much comment on gigh speed stability as I am still going bellow 7.5K RPM,however i will say Bike is great In city traffic but when I ride it through heavy winds or against winds on low to mid speed of 40 KMPH TO 60 KMPH it feels like the bike will go by the wind probably will differ from person to person.
City Average again is at 35 to 38 KMPL infact of Low reving Speeds! But the rush and the feel this bike gives is like nothing compared to it.

Rightly said by Vibbs Not being Bias but KTM offers peak Value for Money!
also if you check thew KTM Duke 200 Prices In The UK and USA it is nearly twice compared to what we are paying with same specification!
All I will say its a great bike for City, not used it at the highway but sure that it will perform good apart from high engine heating tendency and posture which I dont think will offer maximum touring comfort! Its a Great Machine!

Why i am not convinced with this statement??
If CBR produces a 17.58bhp @ 10500rpms at the other hand R15 is producing 16.779bhp @ just 8500rpms?? So, will this .9bhp matter here ??
CBR produces a torque of just 12.66Nm@8500rpm and other hand R15 produces a torque of 15Nm/7500rpm.in turn torque will help the bike to move more faster leading with Bhp to again high speed.

                    So I am thinking how can a CBR reach 0-60 0r 0-100 before R15 ??
I am not convinced with this statement.

                    Can anyone clarify this?? please!!

the low torque is well mated with gearing buddy.

Duke 200 and NS 200 have very good low-end and mid range torque, which is very ideal for city riding: Insane acceleration and Good roll-ons..

Of the above two, DUke is a more focused and fun-to-ride motorcycle that Hard-core Biking enthusiasts would go nuts for even with its hard uncomfortable suspension.

In contrast, CBR150 is rev-happy. The power is usable at higher rpms and adding the softer suspension to it, the CBR's element is the Highway.

IMHO, I too feel CBR is over-priced demanding a premium over R15 for nothing more to offer. Let alone the Duke which offers top tech for the money: Clearly VFM..

                        So, it sum it up:
                        1. If you want a comfortable bike with a fairing, Go for CBR150..
                        2. If you don't care about a fairing and performance with exclusivity is the only criteria, The Duke it is...
                        3. If you are on a budget but looking for performance with comfort: The Pulsar 200NS is the way to go..

actually buddy pulsar 200 ns is lacking low-end torque bigtime.

A reliable bike for a longg trip

Since you said you would be using the bike for regular traffic adn weeekend getaways ..
and guessing from your previous exploits(congrts) , I guess you should go with pulsar 200 NS.

                            reasons

                            > relatively better mileage(good for everyday ride).
                            > Since it is a pulsar every bajaj showroom will be able to repair it(not right now but jus give it 6 months)
                            > since it will be a more common option the spare parts will be more readily available as compared to other EXOTICS(believe me .. when going for longer tours this some times matter, you wont want to be stuck in ooty just coz u dropped your bike and want to repair the front fork.)

                            > it is fun to ride ..

disclaimer : all are my personal opinions

really, are you serious, it's not overpriced then. If high speed stability alone decides it's worth, P220 got more top speed than CBR150 and is priced a good 50k below CBR150. R15 also does same, but it costs less than CBR150 and got all the bells & whistles.

@TS, unless you really like CBR150 & don't mind paying for Honda badge, you might want to go with the other bikes on the list. You are absolutely right in saying CBR150 is overpriced!
