"Will-Work" and "Works-Effortlessly" are two different statements sounding alike but with very different meanings.

Any given day 100cc can't ride so well as compare to 150cc. A performance degradation can be seen by a simple cyclist too, if he is been asked to ride with a pillion in 100cc and 150cc bike.

No doubt 100cc can work the way with a pillion, but 150cc can charm it out with it's power, very simply, riding it on any slopy area with a pillion, 100cc gets a power lack to maximum punch, but similarly 150cc can do it with ease. In city too, 150cc can do it with ease "Stop-N-Go".

TS: Parents need to deserve good things than an average word. Because we some day where too in demand of good not average!! Req/Need wise too 150cc serves excelelntly!!

Average won't be a problem as kms daily are very less!!

Completely disagree with you here -
First - Look at the bikes the threadstarter has shortlisted.
Second - Use of the word deserve is completely off topic. In my opinion parents should be given a car and child should work along a bike till he can. But that's off topic and deserve word should not be a part of the discussion here.
Third - What were most of the genre doing before 150 cc came to market!? Bajaj Chetak, Priya scooter.. What is the pulling power of the most sold scooter(favorite of more wise men!) of our time - Honda Activa!!

Threadstarter please update what your father liked and going to buy after test driving 100,125 and 150 cc bikes suggested here. Really wish he shortlists a 150 cc. Please take a test ride.. as guys here are suggesting a SZR to a 5'4 height person who has to manage a heavy pillion!!

If average is not a problem(kms per day are less). Cost of the bike is no issue to threadstarter.. Why not CBR 150?? Excellent pulling power. Shortest 0-50 time suggested here!? Low height and "completely effortless"

+1000 for a car, but still it depends how much would that car be used in city, traffic makes it hell!!!
Don't know why you are not agreeing but the statements by mee were very logical.
Why can't we use "deserve" word , PArents always tries to give the best, so i think even children should try to give the best and i guess that's what TS has done why putting the query here and get a nice resolution.
He suggested all 100cc so whats so good in that with respect to pillion and ride ?? 150cc is anytime better in city and ride!! The only thins is his dad's height and ride. Lets see what he opts...We can only suggest
Previously Scooters were more in market then bikes. Not becuase of bikes but becuase of power it had against bike. Same like RE to other bike. But increasing petrol and average need scooter went off.

Do you really think a aged person should go with CBR 150 ?? IS it that comfortable?? It has little front bend position as compare to other commuter riding position.

CBR is not at all a bike for aged person, not becuase it comes into sports segment, but it's not that commuter Stress free riding position. It's very similar to CBR 250, But we have to bend little forward!! Which won't be good for a parent.

After investing great amount of thought, i have decided to upgrade from 100cc to 125cc . My father is not ok with 150cc. So i have shortlisted the following bikes,

1. Honda Shine
2. hero Splendor plus

i have discarded

1. Yahama SS125 because i am looking for Non-Disc variant which it does not have.
2. Suzuki because of service center and spares availability.

Guyz are the two bikes which i shortlisted good ones. Which one of them should i choose.?
Also Dream Yuga with Accessories sums to 62000 /- in Chennai which is atrocious considering that its just a 100cc Bike. I am so afraid about what Shine ll cost me !! Suggestion awaited.

P.S: I am glad that i have posted my query as it gave a different perspective to my thought. Thanks guyz !!

Do add Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi to the 125cc list. It comes in a Drum Brake variant. And also the Discover 100 DTSi. I suggest these two bikes purely because of Exhaus-Tec that noticeably makes it easier to pull at low RPMs. A test-ride or two were enough to confirm this personally (I weighed around 85kg at the time of test-ride and the Bajaj sales executive weighed around 65kg and the Discover 100 had no difficulty in moving around).

And if you still want a bike , Which have Good Engine, Mileage I recommend "Hero CD Deluxe" It will Cost you around 50K in Kolkata On Road

Bajaj I don't like : Build Quality Looks poor to me " Only Pulsar 180 , 220" i feel good.
Suzuki : Bike Visor Looks funky,college type ... this type of bike i never like to give my parents.(Its Only my Opinion)
Honda : Dream Yuga is overpriced
Yamaha : Worst Service here,i don't know what is the situation there. also spears parts comes at higher price.
Hero: Good Service , CD deluxe have great resell value,offer great mileage , decent looks , good price, and not a blood pumping machine.drive with 40-45km will surely give you 70 mileage.(**And i am 58 Kg,My Cousin Brother is 83Kg i never feel pulling problem or something like that but its defiantly hit the mileage )

From the revised list, I'd go with the Shine.

But if you are open to further discussion, here is what I would ask you.

What's your dad's current bike? And any other bikes he rode before? This will help identify his profile as a two wheeler rider.

Have you considered a gearless scooter? Apart from dad's short height and mom's pillion weight, I think an autogear checks all the needs of a comfortable ride. Ever thought about it?

If possible wait for the launching of Hero Xpro in the 110cc segment pricing about the same as Dream Yuga... Will be launching in NAvratras.... do take a look at it before venturing out of the bike for ur dad.....
Maybe it will be better than the yuga because of the cheap spares and resale value of the Hero bike,and tesnion free maintenanace(it will never cost your dad a bomb in the pockets)& will easily give arnd 70+milage....

Ya i did consider gearless scooter but my dad is so concerned about the wheel diameter as the scooter is subjected to skid more than a bike with greater wheel diameter. I did suggest activa but he neglected it for aforementioned reason. Your take on this >?

Skidding might be a concern for brisk driving such as what youngsters do, but have n't you mentioned in one of your posts that he keeps it under 50?

Anyway, a bike or a scooter is a very personal decision and I'd probably respect it. My dad refuses to change his bike for a scooter and he is over 70. I just can't get to convince him enough.

By the way, there is one model in Splendor that has self start. Not sure if it is plus or pro but that would be a good choice as well.

Not to throw you off topic, but there is a new bike called dream yuga in the market. You may consider it the new age splendor. Why I recommend you this is because a) I ride a twister and I love my bike; yuga has the same engine and i think it will be very economical to own it; excellent mileage, good pickup and very low maintenance b) it has self start, tubeless tires, etc. at it's price point.

I read earlier that the price of yuga was a turn off for you, but have you checked what the price with similar accessories would be for your other bikes?

Woke up @ 3. Preparing for GRE .

Initially i finalized on Dream Yuga but my instant gut feeling was 'Why not shed 3000-4000 more bucks to get a 125 cc Proven Shine ?' and now i am searching for bike in 125 cc category.

As you mentioned Super Splendor has a 125cc engine and self start . So i am confused between Shine and Super Splendor.

Okay!! Well in that case, I would recommend the shine, unless dad wants to go with a splendor. I just gave my bike for servicing this morning and next to mine was a shiny new Honda shine. I think that one would be a good long term all rounder.

FYI, there is also a Discover 125 ST that got introduced recently. I did not read from the posts if you had any brand preference.
