  • A Perfect Bike to commute in City Traffic!

Hello guys, I am new to XBHP as a member but have been following it for a very long time. To start with I have been trying to narrow down to a bike which would be really good for the City Commute in Bumper to Bumper Traffic. I am 5 feet 8 inches and weigh close to a ton. It's single driven without a pillion and would travel around 80 kmps in a day.

Considering Duke from a very long time but after going through the Ownership Review Thread, I find that there are a lot of issues with Coolant Leaking, Oil Spilling from the Chain, Rear tyre skidding at panic braking, fogging of the Digital Console and few others. So these are something which are making me look for other options as I really don't expect that from a bike of this segment.

I prefer a comfortable riding posture as I would be spending closely 3 hours in the traffic and 2 hours in that is heavy traffic.

Visited KTM Showroom yesterday and thought to take a test ride but the bike was sent to service as there is Orange Day on 14th in Hyderabad.

So please help me make my decision as I will be taking a bike on 24th Oct for sure and I don't want to make this a long post rather just let me know if you need any other details and I will reply to that

    Thanks for reading :P

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

80 km a day,huh..are you concerned about mileage ,if not then think about duke.
i guess you are concerned about comfort,if yes then forget about duke.
i would definitely like to know about the kinda budget you have.
naked or faired, which is your fetish?
are you a strictly city rider?
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
      #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

80kms isn't it too long kms covered daily?? ANd If a Duke is your partner for Bumper to Bumper traffic then you will be paying more on petrol.

Bumper to Bumper traffic i guess GS150r/P150/ Dazzler/ Unicorn are the best bet to go with as you are heavy also. These are the bikes that give 60kmpl +/- in city.

Else Stunner or D125ST can try this also, TD and see. IN traffic it's better you go with some thing comfortable and mileage rather than Duke etc.

If mileage is not a problem then RE is best to own to ride a 80kms/daily. RE is the best comfortable bike followed with Avenger and CBR/P220.

Hmm.., the 24th !! Celebrating the festival with style?

So you say you're heavy, which means a capacity of 150 cc and above; and comfort is apriority, so the budget bikes and the sporty ones are out of the window.

I have not one, but two sets of recommendations for you, partly because you begun your post with a Duke, which I take as money no problem but style is a must. And partly because each of the advice falls at different economic category.

At the comfort level, I think a Honda Unicorn (classic, not the dazzler) or a pulsar 150/180 will suit you.

And at the style level, I think a CBR 150/250 or a Pulsar 200NS will let people know that you have arrived.

I could never finish a post without writing something off topic (it's a sickness that that I am yet to see a doctor for), and this time is no different.

At 80 kilometers a day, which you say is 3 hours, combined with a heavy body is bound to take a toll on your bone and muscle health in the long term. If you can afford, consider a car like santro/alto/beat/eon. But if you are fit and all, then a bike is no problem.

Budget is 1.5 and cannot be stretched till CBR 250R (Unless I postpone the Date Of purchase).

I am strictly a City Rider till now. . . I don't cruize through the traffic except for some bursts of speed if road is clear so naked or faired will only be subjected to looks in my case

Mileage is not a problem and I think RE is heavy to drive in City (I've never driven one for the matter of fact). Will definately consider but I never had an eye on RE or Avenger till now. ( By the way what Model in RE were you referring to . . . ??)

I like to have Power and with great Power comes great Responsibility ;-) Is CBR 150R worth for City Commute? :-/

Lol. . . Yes! Two years back met with an accident when I was doing my graduation on the day I was about to take R15 V1.0 and now after two years I want to have the blessings (I know it sounds a bit superstitous :P ) Can see a real Logical way of thinking around. Perfect Solution and I've been following it from day one as I have Suzuki Access(Which found it's way due to the accident) and I can never travel that long on it.

Pulsar 200NS is definately on cards but the main thing is that Duke really stands out compared to 200NS. I am still 22 and don't think Unicorn (Classic) would please me with kind of image it has (Though I respect if for the engine it has).

Do you thinnk CBR150R is apt of Commuting in City? 250R is out of budget for now (I would go with the ABS if it's 250).

Pulsar 150/180 -- Never tried them.

Why isn't the Karizma mentioned by anyone in all these Options?? :-/

Why not, it's just like any other bike. Weight, mileage and performance are comparable to other bikes in it's segment and the thing with it is that it stands out with it's fairing. I see plenty of those around the hi-tech city area and people drive them through the maddening traffic too. There is just some talk about lack of spares, but I am not too sure if that is still the case. You can go through many reviews that are available online to get a better idea about the bike. And then you can test drive this one and 200NS and see wich one suits you better. These two are the latest bikes and so you will be the hot guy for some time in your colony group or college gang.

If we take money out of the equation, then I would say any reliable 150 cc bikes (any of the ones that are mentioned by many people above) will be good enough. You will get what you need out of your ride, and you will have around half your budget (close to INR 75,000) left with you. You could use it for other things like throwing a new bike party, buying your new smartphone or a slim laptop or another 150 cc bike in a different color too!!

I am pointing to RE Electra believe me the comfort is top notch, and the power is also fine with the city travel. Electra is good to handle in city.

CBR 150 is also good, but it's not for city, where will you use the power and speed of CBR?? Handling of CBR?? It's like keep something more which usage are very rare!!

                  Becuase it don't have mileage!!

As i see you are pointing to CBR 150 and Duke so i guess looks matters to you!!
Go with comfort in your case as you are heavy, else reduce weight!!

Karizma in city gives 25-30kmpl. My friend owns it. Now he uses Dazzler in city and Karizma only for tour!!

As for as 150R is, if for purely city riding, and that too the distance, time, and traffic you have mentioned, just leave it out of consideration.
With the views of mileage and comfort, its a sure option, but within the city., trust me, its a pain to ride 150R!
It demands the rider to be involved and you'll have to downshift a lot lot and lotta times and you can't ride it relaxed within the city.
So., I would say consider other options members here suggest you with.
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

Karizma-r has no mileage.. But what about its big bro?? ZMR offers 40-45 kmpl bro.. And its much better in comfort than a pulsar.. My ride consists of 50-50 highway and city.. It does well in both the areas. If you are considering CBR then have a TD of ZMR and you'll know.. Upright position and sofa-like seats.. With the best mileage in 220 cc class.

Well. Im 5'8. I weigh lil more than a ton. I bought the rtr 180 abs. Im happy. Great even in the city bumper to bumpers. Think about it. If that's not good enough, then of the bikes you like, the 200ns seems the best. Very comfortable.

You sure that there is no strain on your wrists while driving the Apache? Is the riding position of the new Apache RTR 180 same as the Old Apache 160 RTR(I've had a ride once so just to know)?

I would also like to know the bikes which score well on the Suspension as well . . . I cover all types of roads on my way

RTR ABS seems to be a good choice if it does not strain my wrists and has an ample suspension . . . (I normally don't cross 90Kmph so I guess vibrations may not be an issue)
