  • Current TVS Flame owner - Next Bike?

    Hi Guys,

Most the people here know that im a TVS Flame owner - and yes i agree with the fact its a Failure model and i'm planning to sell it off - and looking for a new Horse.

I lost my trust with TVS because of my purchase - but i know the other models of TVS are good so nothing against the Company itself.

So i have pinned out and omitted few bikes and have a List of bikes which would be suiting me

I want a Bike which should be a Street legend but also should help me in Highways, Good Pillion Comfort and 40 ish mileage, Should be powerful and i'm a kind of not good in maintenance, so after reading a lot of post and personal experiences i have come with few choices, but not sure about my decision here. I made a Bad decision 4 years ago taking the Flame and feeling the Heat and do not want to do this again - so i need the advice from the forum members also in this case.

Apache 180 ABS : This is my primary target, the security of the brakes and the adrenaline rush that 17+ horses give is aw sum, But the new makeover that she got is a bit disturbing and my lost confidence with TVS too adds.

Karizma : The Old Horse Winger still a good competitor, Robust engine almost same power of RTR, with good mileage for such a bigger bike, But the Separation of Honda and Age old design and lack of rear disc are the things that makes me thinking.

FZ : Good new machine, Lord of streets, Amazing looker, But maintenance, quality of Parts and lack of Rear disc are concerns.

Pulsar220: Fastest Indian, good looks and manageable mileage, But maintenance costs, Not a street roamer are the concern.

Those listed are the Bikes that i have come up with after all analysis, Other bikes what i think is not gonna suit me is

200NS : Hearing lot of build quality issues - i'm not a good maintainer of the bike - so maintaining this high technology bike is not possible for me.
R15 : Yet another high technology bike - its a tested and perfected bike but still price over 1 lakh, but pillion comfort is a concern
KTM : Same as 200NS, its perfectly street legal but pillion comfort is a concern.
CBR150 : Lack of Pass and Engine kill switches, Com eon man we pay more than lakh you dont give us two switches that is which is available in a 60K bike?

I made a very Bad decision 4 years ago taking the Flame and feeling the Heat and do not want to do this again - so i need the advice from the forum members.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Nice for street and highway but has little vibs on higher rpms, but pillion seat is same as previous. So comfort level is same. New design is actually appreciated by many but criticised by some too.

Who cares it's a old model or not?? The main purpose is, availiability of parts and SVC support which is available for this so no issues. If you need new models then there are planety in it's same range and over 1L.

Previosuly you owned flames and still you want power and speed, ok that's good, But FZ is excellent with what it has.Even mileahe has been improved. FZ is ok till 100-105kmph later it starts slaging. But pillion comfort and Street handling and bumper to bumper ride it's awesome!!

Any time better than KArizma !! It has all, many riders handle this like charm in traffic, but don't forget it's about love, maneuvering in traffic is real pain for big bikes not only P220.

Maintenance has to be there for even a 5k bike!!

If you can't maintain then you can't have good relation or trouble free bike at all.

The bikes you mentioned all needs good SVC and Maintenance. If you don't then they will start drilling your pocket!

      Why din't you think of Dazzler/GS150R/CBZ/Hunk/Impulse/SZr ???

      These are nice bikes.

Dual Disc and pillion comforts are in Dazzler and CBR-Hunk or RTR 160.

But if you want good street city bike then FZ, not at all bad on highways, i have ridden it good amount kms. 100-110is almost fine.

You won't get all in one bike so prioritse your need and then narrow down the bike and Maintenance has to be there !!

        Apache RTR 180 ABS sir!
        + ABS
        + Awesome exhaust sound
        + Great acceleration
+ Top whack ~ 118 kmph (actual reading) or 125 kmph (speedo)
        - Mild vibes. (nothing major here)

        Yamaha FZ
        + Robust chasis
        + Awesome city bike
+ Light weight, easy to handle in traffic
        + Great brakes.
        - Not a highway bike AT ALL!!!
        - Loses juice post 95 kmph.

        Karizma ZMA
+ Engine (proven gem) - Can last 10+ years if maintained well. Can't say this for the remaining 3 bikes though!
        + Long time tourer
        + Very comfy seats
+ Spares have started being readily available.
        - Age-ing design and tech.

        Pulsar 220:-
+ Does everything faster than a ZMA.
        - Hard seats. (Guys do tour on it though!)

Make a wise choice. I suggest RTR 180 ABS
        Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Flame - yes it failed terribly. But don't judge TVS based on that! They do produce bikes like the RTR!!

Looks are a matter of personal choice. But, come on, its not as bad as disturbing!! The vehicle is amazing and will completely restore your confidence in TVS! ABS is something you will appreciate. Highway comfort isn't all that bad. And it doesnt have half the vibes the old one did! You'll have fun on this baby.

Karizma : The Old Horse Winger still a good competitor, Robust engine almost same power of RTR, with good mileage for such a bigger bike, But the Separation of Honda and Age old design and lack of rear disc are the things that makes me thinking.

Little old. But no doubt a performer! Its still around after all this time. Say something about it! Comfortable and dependable. But as long as your at it, think about the ZMR. I was of different opinion earlier, but the FI, dual disks and Fairing make it an amazing vehicle too. But neither the ZMA or the ZMR fit your legend of the streets requirement. Both are highway bikes!!

FZ : Good new machine, Lord of streets, Amazing looker, But maintenance, quality of Parts and lack of Rear disc are concerns.

The RTR, 220 and karizma are on your list. The fz is great - in the 150cc segment. It doesn't belong with the others in your list. But yes, its comfortable and handles like a dream. Can do good highway!

Pulsar220: Fastest Indian, good looks and manageable mileage, But maintenance costs, Not a street roamer are the concern.

This is by far the best in the list if you take away the ABS from the RTR. Wouldn't put it with the ZMA/R. Its a brute. You'll have a ball on the streets and the highway with it!

Answers in bold! I want to add - test drive the bikes again and again. One will convince you over the others!

Guys thanks for all your Replies and suggestions -

I made up my decision and went to chennai to sell the bike - but there many things shocked out me

First thing is RAMKAY TVS in velacherry they have old stock of Apache RTR 180 versions, they said i can Book even the old version or the new version also,
I went to all the showrooms except the Yamaha showroom and where the Resale of my Bike was requested all the showrooms said they will get my old Bike for 8K, i was , This bike costed me almost 60+k 4 years before and now even the TVS is claiming 8K for this bike.
When i went to Honda showroom i also asked how much will take an Apache 180 which is 2 years Old and their answer was also shocking they claimed 25K and when i checked with tvs they claimed 35K.
for questioning this the TVS Showroom manager replied that the Market is occupied by Efficient Bikes of Honda so the people who take secondhand bikes are also mostly looking for Honda engine Bikes - he himself accepted that a 5 year Old splendor will have a resale value of 20K and a same aged unicorn will sell for 35K, and all other company bikes have only lesser resale value and in which TVS is the most lesser valued bike in Resale Value.

With the current way the industry is turning towards Honda Bikes - i'm having a little bit of hesitation in picking up another TVS Product - because they are not valuing their Bikes and so as their customers,

As of Now New bike Plan is on Hold.
