  • Upgrading from karizma

    Hello fellow riders,

I have been using karizma-R since march 2010 and had clocked over 32000 kms most of the rides being on highway.
Since few months I have started feeling hunger for little more power. with karizma i can cruise comfortably at 100 kmph I'm seeking something which can take me to a higher cruising speed i.e. around 120 kmph smoothly without the engine crying out and vibing the bike.

Thought about buying cbr 250r but came to know about some problems like chipping off paint, rubber near the chain separating it from body getting off repeatedly, non-supportive nature of rubbers on wet surface, brake pads wearing out faster (i changed at 28K in karizma, read on CBR ownership thread that max were lasted around 14K kms) etc etc

Thought about ninja, but came to know that it will be costly to buy and maintain.

Thought about N200/duke but i think I can never cruise at 120 on highway when the wind blast will be stronger and no windscreen to divert it (personal thinking).

Also wanted to know that how much shall i quote for my used karizma to sell it? Thought of modifying it, but didn't get any reply from Joel.

    Kindly help.

    Topic Approved.

Most of Honda CBR's issues have been sorted out well. As for the tyres, you can get them replaced later on. Or keep them, they're not so bad after all. And if brake pads wear a bit earlier, its not that much of an expense, is it? Ask CBR owners personally, or let them post here.

Avoid Duke if your main purpose is touring. Its not bad for touring, but just... avoid it for reasons like fairing, tank range, under-gearing, etc. But you can do tours on it.

What do you mean by N200? Do you mean Pulsar 200 NS? P200 NS' also a good bike, and it should handle 120 kmph better, if you forget the missing fairing. And you'll save some serious cash too here. Another option is GT250R from Hyosung, but unless you're close to a Hyosung-DSK SVC, avoid it.

Consider between CBR 250R & P200 NS is what I suggest. And you might get around 45,000-55,000 for your Karizma-R if its in good condition.

PS: Joel is currently in hospital fighting against Dengue. Let's wish a quick recovery for him. BTW if you mailed weeks/ months earlier, he might be busy at the races, as he told me. His active email ID is "Joel(att)Raceconcepts.com" ID, and not the "Gmail" one.

the blast from wind is not going to be significantly less on cbr as well.... its not like 120mph.... go in for duke or ninja ( new one whch comes later)

you already own a 223cc bike and you know all the issues with the bike cbr......and ninja is out of question for you to maintain...... Duke has issues with wind which will effect the speed ,not going 120kmph, where as top is 140+kmph...... Don't buy anything....but take a TD and see which one you think......

A predicament I can relate to Have you considered a pre-owned Ninja?
Else a CBR is your best bet

If you can wait, there might be a P200 FS (talks of a fully-faired version of the 200NS were doing the rounds post its launch). But havent heard much after thatknowing Bajaj, it will be a good 6 months atleast
Then there's the much awaited Yamaha 250cc which should most probably be an R-line or F-line full or half fairing job. And launch date is still highly speculative
The man who designed the Tower of Pisa was the First Biker ever...

Sorry Mav. I am not technically educated/experienced as many here. So i would just let them do the talking. will peep in when there is an outburst of technical discussion happening, something like a crash course. Which might be useful when i want to buy a new bike in future. Would highly appreciate stuff from people who have experienced rather than any Tom Dick and Harry just giving gyan out from any websites/newspapers. I can do that as well.

If you want to cruise at 130 kph on highway then the CBR will fit your requirement. At those speeds CBR will give you about 26 Kms FE,and will feel planted. With most new bikes there will be teething problems at the initial stage which is ironed out later. Many tourers are using the CBR for touring and city running purpose, and it is proving to be reliable now...The riding position in CBR is a little aggressive compared to the ZMA and takes some time to get used to.

Duke and Pulsar 375 are speculated to be released in 2013 which will be an ideal package for city and touring ,with acceptable FE. P375 esp., will be Pocket friendly to buy and maintain .

ROFL..LOL... i though atleast some people will understand.

Sorry mate i am not that knwoledgable as you would be, But i would say one thing, All bikes have some or the other flaws, and we have to buy it accpeting those!! Else wait till next arrivals.
TD of a bike can change the mind of buyer any time, either in favour or opposite. And that might help TS to buy the bike with accepting their flaws.

As people buy RE with it's limitations.

Nothing, TS wrote all the issues which were a part of CBR earlier, so i wrote that(but he din't write that it's sorted out too). But almost all are sorted out, aprt from tyres. Even tyres are not that bad, if cautiously ridden then even those are good.If need these tyres can be changed by after market tyres which are available.
Mostly people ride CBR as a Track machine compare to R15 which is very different in design and use too.

TS: Any given day CBR ABS is best for you, becuase you already have ridden Karizma, so better features over existing would be good for a change, which would be ABS and power of 250cc. Karizma has good torque and capability of doing 120kmph, so CBR would be little upgrade in terms of power or speed. No one rides CBR at 150-160kmph!! All are happy with 140-150kmph, so 120 to 140kmph won't be a big jump for you.

it's only 2 yrs with your karizma, so wait for few more years say 1-2 yrs, see the market there would be some better bikes in line. Then think for it.

As you have Karizma and most of kms you have done on highway, the one bike (Personal view) which matches the comfort of highway riding of karizma in present market is CBR 250, Though it is tough to handle it in city, but on highway it is good or else just as said by somen1984 it has been just 2 years and 32k kms clocked you can actually wait for one more year to see some new models coming up. I too had completed near to 40k kms on my ZMR in 2 years.
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.
