  • Opinions and Advice needed on buying new bike

Good morning / afternoon / evening / night XBHPians,

My name is Nikhil Noronha, from Bangalore, currently studying BCA in Christ University

I am 6'2 and 60 kgs (yes I know I have to put on weight and I am trying to )

I most probably will be buying a new bike next month which I will be using mostly to commute to college. Learnt to ride a bike a couple of months back and also got my license .

Learnt how to ride on a Yamaha Fazer and now I can ride it pretty decently .

    Budget: 1,50,000

    Needs:
    1. A decent mileage at least above 30
    2. Should look good
    3. Good performance
    4. Will be mostly (85%) using it in city

P.S: I like the R15 but I hear its bad for guys who are tall.
But also saw the First Impressions of the R15 in this site and was comfortable for a guy who was 6'0 ..
    So I really am confused

    Thank you in advance
    All your opinions are welcome

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

for city use i suggest duke.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
      #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

for your usage and height, 200NS looks to be fine.

Yes, I am considering it as an option .. But I hear that the After Sales service in Bajaj is a real pain in Bangalore.. But I also like the bike.. Damn, I am confused

In city either the NS or the duke.. If you do not like the looks of duke then the 200NS.. If you have a problem with bajaj then the fz or fazer.. Else hunk, cbz with dual disk.. But looking at your budget, it definately should be an NS.. Consider karizma..

R15 is not at all a city bike!!

AFA your height is concern, Yep it won't suit you. Your legs would be cramped , For your height, CBR 250 or NS200 Or impulse is Best !! My friend who owns a R15 V2 after many denial from me regrets today, becuase he uses it daily for city ...lol...and he is 6.0" tall...ROFL...

The best bike currently for city is FZ or Frazer or Duke.
NS200 is comfortable but it needs gears shifting for city usage, But a exp rider can handle NS200 in city very well without any issues with gear or pick up.

FZ is more than sufficient for city usage and good highway with 100kmph.

Duke is good in city but for your height it won't be good, NS200 is good but the low end torque in NS is not that good. This would need good gears balance.

Check FZ for your height too. If you are not a greedy for speed and power, but for comfort and easy to ride in traffic!!

As you don't like Duke so for you it's NS200 / FZ/ Impulse. These are good City bikes

Duke has feet positioned issues, it's back positioned, which makes tall people not comfortable.

I really dont agree with the fact that r15 is not a city bike, given the fact that i have been using it for last 8 months daily commuting of 30kms in bumper to bumper. Plus I am 6 feet tall. But have I have no issues of my legs feeling cramped.
On a more serious note I will say i puts a lot of pressure on your wrists so if (that is not the case with me i got in tune with it) you are on a bad, potholed road it will kill you. R15 is not meant for bad roads at all.
Above given is my personal opinion and No offense against anyone or any bike.

Yes a cramp word would be not that suitable, But don't you think it's not comfortable in city ??
V2 has better ecu mapping for sity, but still as per the design it's not for city at all.

When a rider buys it and starts riding, he gets adapted to style and it's response, so any exp rider can ride it with very less gear shifts in city or traffic, But as per comfort is concern, it not at all a bike for city!!

Tall people are not enjoying R15 is what i see my friend daily, He says it's shorter than him when compared, CBR would have been better choice.

But I have seen many Tall people not leaning on R15, but where as their legs don't have a choice rather be in that position. Upper body is much better comfortable as compare to shorter people. I mean leaning front is more for a average height person like 5.4 - 5.8 And 5.9" + tall people are little relaxed as compare to other riders on R15.

But Duke or NS would be more practical choice for City!!

Noob Question : What exactly is low end torque ??

So you don't feel odd when you sit on the bike?

I really don't mind the wrist pain..

Nothing noob bro!! Low end torque is the sufficient torque produced in less rpms.Means power to bike to move with less acceleration.

So the 200NS needs more juice in order to accelerate at lower rpms ??

You have to be in lower gears to tackle the traffic or slow moving lanes!!
