  • Decided to buy APACHE ; Confused between 160(rear-disc) vs 180 Non ABS with rear disc

    Hi all,

This is my first post in XBHP. I am avid biking fan and always visits XBHP and other bike related sites frequently.
I am 5.5" and on the leaner side. I have driven TVS Star City for almost a year when i was studying and then got relocated to Bangalore for work.
Now planning to buy a bike (By november end) and decided to get TVS APACHE RTR as it was my long standing dream to own a APACHE.
Confused between choosing RTR 160 or RTR 180 (both rear disc version)
I ride 15-20KM (To and fro) dialy. So mileage is not my main concern.

Is there a huge difference between 160 and 180 in terms of pickup and top speed?
What about the vibrations in 160 compared to 180?
Which engine is better compared to each other (not in terms of power but in terms of reliability and smoothness)?
What is the actual mileage difference between these two mills?

Please help me choose my APACHE
    12
    TVS APACHE RTR 160 (Rear-disc)
    8.33%
    1
TVS APACHE RTR 180 (Rear-disc no ABS)
    91.67%
    11

    The poll is expired.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

According to the bold part, you should not be confused .... get the 180,its simple.
The top speed is almost same in both,But pick up is better in 180. Milage of 160 , 44-48 kmpl & in 180 would be 40-45 kmpl.
But other factors, such as longer wheel base, wider tubeless tires, all goes in favour of 180. So get the A180,n enjoy...

        short and precise.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

Since you say that the Mileage is not a concern - close your eyes and buy the bigger boy, You get good features with also like Tubeless tires, single colored theme, great pickup too....
Why you don't wanna consider some extra bucks for safety like ABS???
Well when i talk about safety i remember a little bit of OT?
When you tell safety and go for ABS i used to imagine does riding a Bike itself is safety when compared to riding a car???

Does ABS makes all that difference?
With regards to engine refinement and vibrations, how does 180 fare with 160.

When you can think on 180 then why not an ABS version?? ABS is a great safety feature!!
Yep it makes a lot of difference while braking. In normal scenario in panic braking or due to some unwanted suitable surfaces, if you brake harder your tyre will lock which will leads to skid and a fall.... Bt when ABS kicks in such scenario your wheel is stopped from geting locked, ABS releases and captures the brake, in so quick manner that it is braked as well as released too, this all happens in secs !! which means wheels are not locked and it is been braked too!!

If other bike can be choosen ?? :
why din't you condider NS200 ?? any specific reason ??(apart from your dream Apache?)
NS200 has very good features with 200cc, split seats, power, speed, liquid engine, dual disc, bajaj's SVC and affordable too. NS200 is more better than 180. The only miss is an ABS in NS200, else it was one of the best bikes <1L. normaly rtr180 comes close to 90k+/-, non ABS version is also some where 84k+ if I am not wrong. NS 200 is close to 98k

              Think wisely.

                Thanks for the reply.
I will consider ABS but it is 97K in Bangalore.
And as you rightly said, Pulsar 200NS was not in my list as i did not like it much.
Bajaj SVC is a big plus but somehow i do not want a pulsar.

Could someone please let me know how the 180 fare in vibrations with 160 ?

From my personal experience, the vibes in the RTR series are OVER-HYPED like hell. Agree, its not refined as the Japs's engines. But its not that bad. You can easily get used to it and basically the vibes prevail in the 55-65kmph range.

Regarding, the smoothness, I found the RTR160 to be better. But again, RTR180 ain't that bad. You have to trade refinement for revvability and pickup.
It's not about the RIDE. It's about HOW YOU ride :]

Vibration is never the main issue. Quite frankly both are same in vibs... the vibrating range is around 60-70 kmph. Dude, fact is "RTR" vibrates & you can never deny or reduce it. Ride it for first 500 kms,u will forget about the vibs and get addicted to it. Now when I ride a CBR,then I use to realise, some thing is different. actually,I miss the vibes.

rtr 180 is a very good bike if you are ok with its new looks......and yes vibrations are there but they are in the range of 50-65 km/hr mainly...you can also consider karizma-r which is still very good and reliable machine below 1 lac. as far as p200 is concerned, its a good bike but before buying any bike take a test drive and please go through ownership thread of p200 as people are facing problems like vibrations from handle bar and pillion foot pegs, oil leakage, shivering speedo needles, false neutrals, faulty fuel gauge, hard shifts, sounds coming from head light assembly etc. I dont know why there are such problems...?? may b due inexperienced staff at service stations or due to lack of quality checks at production assembly....

As i said previously, no PULSAR.
And mostly i will stick to RTR 180 with or without ABS.

I will be gettng it in two weeks time. Just a test ride of 180 with ABS is pending as i have already driven 160 and 180 extensively.

go for 180 with abs its worth every single penny !!
and as for the sitting position(you'll get used to it) and vibes they are overhyped .

Just go for RTR180 because there is no difference between them except power and pick up (which is better in 180) and mileage which is not your concern.
And yes Apache is superb bike for DRIVING.

RTR 180 with ABS. When you are going for the 180 don't even think about the Non ABS version. Why throw away the safety when you can have it??? The vibes and all are over hyped for no reason. The engine isn't big on the refinement front. But is got the raw power that will excite anyone riding it.
