  • A somewhat unusual requirement :P

    Hi All,

First Off Happy Diwali! Need guidance on a buying decision on an urgent basis -

I have a FZ16 and am looking for an upgrade. My budget is upto 1.3L and following are the constraints:

Most Important - Need to be able to comfortably seat my two-yr old daugter ahead of me for short (3-4 KM) trip to her school
    • Just because of this, rejected the Duke (with lots of tears and "Its not you, Its me; but we cant be together!!" coming up in many dreams)
    • NS200 looks doubtful due to the somewhat recessed seat

Brakes and overall safety - This is important; The FZ has amazing brakes and maneuverability and the new bike needs to match it at least!
A bit more oomph than the FZ which am still planning to keep
Am living with a FE of 35 KMPL, anything higher would be a boon
    Daily commute of ~50Kms

    Other factors:

Am not very rev happy, more of a gradual acceleration and keeping pace with the traffic kinda riding. But I do occasionally like them signal drag races - Eastern Express Highway Godrej FTW!!

6'1, 100 KG, probably half of it muscle, the rest is chicken and mutton biryani and similar food stuff that I store for emergencies so the bike shd be on the bigger side

Not to keen on RE's cos I'd like a hassle free bike and dont know much about the mechanical stuff that I would be comfortable about caring for the RE well!

    Please help!

What you need is a scooter. Its really unsafe for 2 yr olds to sit on a bike, especially in front of the rider. I have tried it out once or twice with my nephew (when he was ~3) with a ride inside the colony and it was not particularly enjoyable for him back then. 3 years on, he still refuses to sit on my bike (a Pulsar 220).

If/when you do decide to take your 2-year old on a joyride, do remember to buy a fitting sized helmet for everyone aboard.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Yeah she has a helmet and she's CRAZY abt bikes... Only words I hear from her are Go GO n FASH... and the glares she gives to anyone daring to overtake us are to be seen to be believed :P but yeah, will probly get a scooter (ostensibly for the Mrs n use it) as it seems a good and safe idea. Still would like suggestions for bikes especially first hand experiences if any.

      Thanks!!

Here is what I would do.
1)Get a scooter for taking kid to school, cost of scooter=40k,assume
        2)sell the fz,got 40k,assume
        3)Buy duke
        All is well,everyone happy!

Haha Alby... Buying a duke will be a blatant scam and the CAG at home will make it very uncomfortable for a couple of years at least .. Maybe the 200ns can sneak in in this case. Still, gotta say that post tugged some heartstrings man!!

              1. 2 yr old daughter
              2. Want handling and brakes like FZ
              3. Seat comfort for pillion
              4. average over 35kmpl
              5. little or more better than FZ in terms of pick up or power or speed.
              6. approx 100kg body

FZ is one of the best engineered city bike for fun ride!! Any given day Duke over takes in all terms apart from seat comfort.

I would have suggested scooters, but your lines don't show your any acceptance of mopped!!

You need a bike which should not have forward lean so that if your daughter sits in front or back then she should be comfortable. But i don't think that you should ride fast with her which she likes "Go.Go..Fash!!"

              So why not a ZMA/ZMR/Avenger/impulse ??

I have seen my friends taking their kids od 2-4 yrs on their bikes from above!!

Handling wise above bikes are not exactly like FZ but not less than FZ by major difference !!
Here you get a good power/comfort/better kmpl and a family bike.

I would had suggested RTR 180 ABS but RTR has forward lean position so that would be little issue with your daughter.

Avenger won't be that easy comapre to FZ but it has good power and comfort for family use!!

Some where you have to dump handling of FZ or have to wait untill she is 4-5 and understand your every moves on bike for safety!!

ZMR was an option but the Hero dealer in thane was rude and couldn't care less so purely from CS point of view, its out!!

All Hero dealers are like that only. I met a customer in the Malad showroom and he told me to not buy from there, but go for the one in Mahim. So may be you could buy the bike from other location like Mahim. Let me check with a friend who stays in Mulund for a good dealer in Thane. If I get that info, I will PM you.

On the kid front, I think you are a safe rider, but you should be really really safe with a kid on a bike. Like everyone is suggesting, I would say, ditch all other points and look at only one point - kid's safety and riding comfort. What good is a bike which has everything, but poor pillion comfort? Also think for a couple of years down the line when the kid will grow up. Should be still comfortable for her, right?

How come NS200 fit into your daughter's scenario. How will she sit on Ns200, as it shares split seats??

If you planned for NS200 then why din't you go Duke ? You loved Duke! right ?

I am still thinking how come your daughter will sit over NS200, in front not possible, rear would be risk, unless untill she sits with some one behind.

Isn't ZMA would have been more practical over NS200?
