  • Relocating to CHENNAI from KOLKATA

By early next year around Feb-2013 most likely will have my new Job in CHENNAI.

Honestly though I am no homesick but will be staying out of KOLKATA professionally for the first time.
Will relocate with my dear Wifey as well.

Had been riding my White Angel ZMR from 16-May-2010 precisely with 33000 Kms on ODO.
Planning to sell my ZMR though not confirmed yet.
Planning since there are lot of works to be done on the ZMR although quite well maintained.

Timing Chain, Piston Ring, Front Disc Caliper Piston, Clutch Plate Assembly and so on.
These things would be changed for the first time and I do believe this are regular maintenance jobs.
Everything included with Coloring of Alloys would entail a cost of 10k INR at max.

Now is it suggested to overhaul the Bike and get it transported to CHENNAI.
Besides even with NOC it can be run for a period of ONE Year at max, I guess.

Probably under these case I might plan to switch to another Bike in CHENNAI.
    1. New TBTS 500
    2. CBR ABS 250
    3. NINJA 650

Yes although Ninja is in my priority list dunno how will I manage the finances
Not too keen with the current CBRs also with lot of issues and fit and finish.
Besides I have a fetish for WHITE Colors hence would prefer the upcoming CBR 250 R White version of 2013.
And finally I was never a Bullet Man so I am unaware.

Although in Kolkata primarily TWO Wheels were used for Daily Office, Home, In Laws, Shopping etc.
There were also some weekend Tours covered on it too.

But with CHENNAI what I presume lot of touring would take place.

Please suggest some other BIKE options, with Wife of course, considering the luxury of seating posture in ZMR.
We both are fairly built with 150-160 Kgs combined weight.

    Cheers & Thanks In Advance.
34567 kms and ZMR sold :(

You already own one of the best bike in touring world. It's hard to suggest any bike in that range.

Don't know whether you would preffer NS200 ?? or Avenger ?? even look out Impulse/P220 !!

These both bikes would be nice in terms of pillion and touring capability.

As you said Ninja is in your list and finances would be a struggle, So why not buy something almost close to your current ride in range of 1L and later save and get prepared for Ninja 650 ??

Buying CBR ABS or TB500 would shell out 2.0L approx money from your account which can be saved by buying NS200 and later in few years going for Ninja 650.

TR with wife over NS200 and decide.

You're not a Bulleteer and neither am I. Knocking it off. (No offences meant)

Congrats dada!!! You'll for sure find many many more places to tour in Chennai/TN. Climate is err, well more or less the same.
My suggestion - decide on your finances first! N650 is 5L whereas CBR 250R is 2L at max. That's a big gap.
You should buy the most powerful bike in your price range is what I'd say.

If you have the moolah, then I'd say get a Suzuki GS150R for your city use (read office, shopping etc) and get yourself N650 to tour upon.
Though we've Sunny sir from Chennai xbhp who uses his N650 as a daily commuter....

P.S - The NOC is valid only for 6 months. (I have a non TN bike, I know)

Dada, There is a slight chance that I might join u at Chennai, with my NS.
anyways, as @Divyan Sharma Said, u can get to ride with NOC for 6months. I would suggest u to go for a new bike, preferably ninja, if you can afford it.

And if u face any difficulty, do contact @PSR ji. He was very helpful to me, when I visited Chennai. I am Sure @RG will also lend his helping hand!!

                SOMEN,
Thanks for your honest inputs but somehow I am inclined towards all Fuel Injected Vehicles.
No offence meant to all other Bikes & Biker heads and I really do have a respect for all smaller cc also.

Sir jee, I'll be happy to ride down halfway (read Vellore) to meet you. Maybe I'd get a chance to meet my old Chennai biker friends too.

Now TBTS 500:- (purely my opinions based on a BLR-Krishnagiri ride)
                  1. Much better ride quality than previous versions.
                  2. Headlight much much better (due to projectors)
                  3. Plush seat as always.
                  4. 18 inch rear (correct me if I'm wrong here) provide more options for non OE tires (other REs have 19 inch tires.)
                  5. RVMs still suck post 75 kmph. Replace with Avenger's.
                  6. Slight niggles (oil / suspension) still exist, but hey; its a bullet. No offences.
                  7. Awesome torque. No need to change gears at all. Overtakes with ease.
                  8. Couldn't check horns properly. The TBTS I rode had its horn wires chewed off by a rat and they sucked on the highway.
                  9. Since I have been riding a ZMR for nearly 2 years, the bull didn't seem too heavy in city. Plus, I'm heavy too.
                  10. Mileage - around 28 kmpl for the overall trip.

Shall add more pointers if I recall some...
And hey, thanks for correcting my name from Shibadip's post.
                  Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

                      Somen,
Yes but then the fit, finish & feature is honestly not upto my liking with that price tag.
That essentially puts me in a quandary.

Rationally speaking what should be the value of my ZMR if I sell now?
33000 Kms in 30 Months decently maintained stock with PSD in Rear & Michelin in Front.

Infact owner/non owners says CBR 150 has better fit and finish as compare to CBR 250.

This is the only bike with FI which can tour comfortably with a pillion and handles like R15. If you are not so keen on handling and braking then you have an option of CL500.

Any views on RTR 180 ABS ??

regarding the selling price for your ZMR please ask in ZMR ownership thread and check internet too...because any one would like to sell their product at better price, but market is way opposite!

Satyajit - If I were you, I'd do the following...

                              1. Keep the ZMR under covered parking
                              2. Come to Chennai, hunt for a good used motorcycle & I'm sure we can find
                              3. Ride happy & when the time comes to go back to Kolkatta, sell the used bike

But then, if you still insist...
                              1. Get a NOC from the Police Station
                              2. Get the bike to Chennai
                              3. Visit a nearest RTO where you'll be staying to get the rest of the formalities done
                              4. Keep the challan/receipt from the RTO that you've submitted all the papers for reregistration & keep riding happily
                              5. After a new number is obtained, enjoy
