  • Need help in buying "Honda CBR 150R"

    Hi Everyone,

I have joined this forum yesterday. I am a software Engineer by profession.
The main purpose of joining this form is to clear my confussion regarding the purchase of a new bike for me.
I want to buy Honda CBR 150R, but there are few points which i want to clarify 1st before purchasing the bike.

Here are my few needs and queries regarding the bike:

My everyday travel on an average is 30km..
I need comfortable seating position for both rider and pillon seat..
Weekly 5 days i have to travel in traffic, so is it good in traffic condition..
On weekends i prefer to go for long drive..
    Expected FE: Min 40+..
What about the maintenance cost of the bike..
I want to have this bike for a long period of time, so will it deliver the same performance down the line..

Can Honda CBR 150R fill all these requirements which i have mentioned.
Please help me in deciding whether to buy this bike or not..
Special request to the Honda CBR 150R owners, please give your valuable comments..

    Eargerly waiting for your replies..!!

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Answer is YES. Cbr150r satisfies all your requirements.
on maintenance cost I have done 1500 Kms. Had 1 service other than that nothing. May be other owners can also add.
you can also check the ownership thread of cbr150r for various opinions given by the owners.
i also travel 35 Kms every day for 5 days in a week. Comfortable bike to drive with phenomenal highway performance. It's also light weight and easily maneuverable in city.

Only downside is switch gears. They could have been better.
Riding 17.6 horses out of which 5 horses work in the city and other 12+ horses wake up after 6k rpm and run after 8k rpm

Thanks for your reply, but my main concern is its mileage and performance down the line.. Some of my friends are saying it will never give a mileage of 40+.. That's why i am bit confussed, whether to go for it or not..??

Did you check Dazzler ? What are your thoughts on it? CBR 150R won't be good in traffic. It's a highway comfortable machine than a traffic bike. For traffic go with some commuter 150cc.

Hye, the mileage does depend on your riding style. If you like taking it to the red line often, 40kmpl will be a bit too optimistic in the city. On the highways people have even reported 45-46kmpl. For city I'd say you can get 35-38kmpl. As for performance, so far I have never felt it to be less. And none of the owners have had any such major problems with the bike. Most of the performance lies in the higher rev-range so you have to rev the bike, you cant expect dazzling performance at 4-5k rpm. But rest assured, it is a fuss free bike, it can be normal for daily commutes and brings a smile to your face whenever you let it rip.

As per my need, i dont think that, in the city i'll drive in higher speed.. With a speed around 60(on an average), how much can i expect from this bike.
I love the looks of this bike, thats why i want to get it, but cant compromise more in FE.

For what you are saying, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get 40+. But honestly, it depends on the way you get to 60, how much time is spent in traffic, stop and go etc etc. I suggest you ask put a post up in the ownership forum about the mileage owners are getting and see how many live in conditions similar to yours to get a fair idea of how much to expect. If you really like this bike, I'd say go for it ! The mileage shouldn't differ by more than +-2 here and there.
Also, what are your other options ?

                      Both are completely comfortable

                      A big NO NO!!!

On weekends i prefer to go for long drive..
                      You'll love it.

                      Expected FE: Min 40+..
                      Highways : 42-45kmp
                      City : Never above 35kmpl

What about the maintenance cost of the bike.
Not a penny beyond regular service costs. Have clocked 6.5K kms.

I want to have this bike for a long period of time, so will it deliver the same performance down the line..
                      Hope so!!!
                      Replies in bold.

Added to that, this bike will be too sluggish below 7k RPM. And keeping it above 7k within city limits, you'll feel like you are torturing the bike.
Within city limits, lots lots and lots of down and upshifts. You have to be constantly changing gears to keep the engine from lugging.
For highway runs, reaches 100 easily, comfortable cruises till 120kmph. Feels little outta breath above 128-130kmph.
With pillion, the speed figures gets cut down by upto 5-10 kmph.
In total, a revv-hungry machine, a little overpriced, comfortable on highways, sluggish in city!
For the joy of revving up, its the answer!!!
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

In City, you have to drive only in 1st three gears because you cannot go beyond 40-50kmph. That too if you are in a city which has more speed breakers and pot holes, just forget 40+ kmpl. It will not go beyond 35 kmpl. If you can live with that then due to it's light weight and is easily maneuverable in city traffic.

I have a daily commute which is a combination of city and highway, so that works for me.

In general, if you want a sport bike (read R15 V2, D200, P200NS and CBR 150R), as far as I am concerned no bike gives exactly 40+ all the time in city traffic. Commuter bikes, yes, they are made for mileage.
Also, as praveen said, there will be lots of gear shifting in bumper to bumper traffic conditions.

Finally, please test drive any bike at least twice before deciding because you are spending more than a lac.

The city drive is torture if its heavy traffic. Initially, I stopped two times at the side for a 8 km ride in cm moving traffic because my hands were paining like hell! But once you are suited, it will be normal. U turns are little difficult. I drove most of the kms in highway and it was damn good.

I'd say, test ride it before proceeding with anything. You'll be investing 1.2+L. So better do that. Like some people pointed out, the bike makes max torque at 8.5K RPM. So, you'll have to shift gears a lot in traffic. Test ride it, if you're okay with that, proceed. Else, look for something that makes good low end torque and is more suited for city traffic like Duke. You'll have to sacrifice the pillion comfort though. On highway, the 150R will be a pleasure to ride.

I want to have a bike with sporty look, thats why my only option is the CBR.. Till now i dont have any other bike in my mind.. But yes, if i'm not going for this bike, then i'll get a normal bike Apache160/180.. As i'll be investing 1.3L+ in this bike, i'm bit more concerned about everything..
