  • Need a new bike for dual purpose (selling my Pulsar 220 12,000 KM RIDDEN)

hi friends, i am selling my p220 this week with a heavy heart. i relocated to chennai and promptly paid road tax(after receiving n.o.c) also, but to change it to tamilnadu registration,so much harassment sort of formalities.moreover some person is asking it for a decent price. So I thought to bid a farewell to my pulsar..

Now, I am travelling 40 km daily to office, and occassional weekend rides (less than 200 kms) twice a month and rarely go for a long ride.less than 600 km to..I need a bike which costs less than 80,000.I can't buy a 220 again(because of financial constraint) and don't want to get into loan etc., so my requirements are

    1) I need a new bike within 80,000(not more than that)
    2) should suit my travel requirements written above
    3) must have enough torque and power to overtake vehicles(at 80 km/hr) on highway
    4) should ride at or more than 80 km/hr for hours without more strain.
    5) good braking and if possible, full DC and tubeless tyres (I am spoilt by my p220 features)
    6) fuel efficiency around 35-42 km/l is ok,if not more..

    and last but not least
    7) a bike which i could get without much waiting period, because i have no other bike for my daily needs..

    Kindly help me out..

      FZ goes over 80k +

      So how about GS150r and P150/P180 ??
CBZ/HUNK ?? I guess these two are also under 80k.

Normally any 150cc bike can do 80kmph+ for full day. so don't worry on that.

somen, eventhough suspension of gs150r(had a test ride long back) is good,it is almost felt equally heavy like p220,but without power like p220. Moreover, i don't think gs 150r will be dynamic inside city.but still it will be in my list for 2 reasons
        1) a great bike if u want to ride long distance as couples.
        2) my first bike was suzuki heat.suzuki engines are robust and i have a soft corner for suzuki bikes.

cbz xtreme is out of my list.somehow i don't like the design.

        friends,
anybody tell me which 125cc bike has tachometer? had a test ride in tvs phoenix yesterday.well comfortable, but nothing special i could feel in performance in that short ride less than a km.phoenix doesn't have tacho, but they classify themselves as premium, why not giving such a simple feature? one good thing is it is a125 cc bike with full DC & special feature, trafficator lamps.

@FullMoon I understand your plight. Sincere suggestion: Please don't sell your P220. Endure the headache and get it transferred to Chennai registration. Or else you will curse yourself every single day of your life if you downgrade to a mundane 150cc.

If however you absolutely don't have the option of keeping the old bike, try the Apache RTR 180 (if it fits your budget). Nothing else will feel right. Trust me (Own a P220 myself, owned it for 48k km)

AND Please avoid back to back posts. Its against forum rules.

I sympathize with your situation. Like antz I'd suggest you go through with the head ache. After riding a 220, nothing else will cut it. Except maybe the 200ns, or the Duke. Which, mind you, are both way out of your 80k budget. The RTR is possibly the only bike that comes close. If you go for a commuter, believe me, 4 days is all you'll have before you regret it.

Besides bro, you're in chennai! TVS will deliver your bike in two hours probably

                @antz, is rtr 180(without abs)has DC Electrical.but w.r.t P220 TOP SPEED,even rtr 180 won't come close.It is really painful to sell my p220.

Bro, a heads up. The headlamps of the RTR will disappoint you. For sure. Especially after you ride the 220. Its not that they aren't bright. They're just positioned pathetically. But, every other aspect of the bike is just hot. You'll love the wild acceleration. Yes, top end is a sore thumb in front of the 220, but hey, the keys are yours for 80k.

Dont sell your bike!! The reasons -

First you don't need to. You can ride/drive a vehicle for n number of years after paying the road tax.
Second, you have a bike that suits your requirement.
Third and the most important one - As you will be doing weekend trips for some 200 kms and definitely going outside the state atleast a month, you can very well show the traffic police your toll tax reciepts and claim that you are on a visit to the city and will leave within a few days.. Every state in India allows you to ride / drive a vehicle for around a month without paying the road tax.
Fourth - Why you want to get it registered in Chennai!? You dont need to!! You have already paid the road tax.

I have a Delhi registered santro in Hyd. For some months I didnt pay the tax.. One fine day I was booked for not paying road tax (lifetime). I was forced to pay the lifetime tax, which came out to be 40,000 bucks! when I have already paid a similar lifetime tax in Delhi for the same vehicle. Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has no other means of making money - These poor chaps do it by collecting this type of tax and selling the costliest petrol (after Kntka) in India. Even the lifetime tax is 13% for a new vehicle here which is costliest too!! To top that - The lifetime tax is non-refundable!! Even if you give them the proofs and start a PIL on the same. Read more about it on the internet.

Bottomline - I have been using the vehicle for two years or so now, the vehicle is Delhi registered still. Waive the Lifetime tax slip at the policeman every time you are stopped.

@muztariq, but, what about insurance renewals or claims,my insurance is valid till march 2013.if i intend to keep it(chances are very less, already discussed a deal). is it necessary to keep n.o.c form 28,and road tax original paper all the time with me to show traffic maamoos? i bought it for 89,000/-INR,bought on feb 2011.My pulsar is grey colour, 12,000 km ridden and one person wants my pulsar for Rs.55,000 & some signatures in transfer papers.he is transferring it to karnataka again.still i didn't took money from him.He came and test ride my bike, and still delaying, says he may come tomorrow with full cash.Really i am in a dilemma.because i spend ten more thousand for n.o.c and road tax. After discussing this deal with him, i feel like i am losing my best partner.(i could not express fully, how painful it is).But my family is too much happy in selling this, because my wife and family always thinks powerful(?,all which goes more than 100 km/hr) bikes are dangerous. They want a vespa so that i can happily travel with wife and 2 kids.

First and foremost, 55k is not the price to sell a 12k used P220. If I am offered one for 55k, I might just buy another one as a spare bike.

Secondly, no bike <80k will offer you as much as a P220 can. Bikes which can go faster than 100 comfortably also have better brakes and tyres than an average joe 100cc bike but I guess you already know that by now and don't need me to tell this to you. P220 offers better headlights than anything else cheaper than a P220. The only bikes cheaper than P220 with full DC electricals are the Yamaha FZ/Fazer, Bajaj Discover 100/125/150, Bajaj Pulsar 135/150/180 and Bajaj Avenger. Thats it (I think ).

You have already done the hard work brother, don't buckle down now. You are losing a *not insignificant* 25k in this entire transaction (selling bike for 55k and buying a new one for 80k), the additional effort you will make probably won't cost you that much.

If you really want something for your wife and 2 kids to travel on, PLEASE don't buy a Vespa! Thats even more dangerous than 'powerful(?,all which goes more than 100 km/hr)' bikes. Use the 25k you just saved to pay the down-payment of a 2012 Tata Nano (limited edition with 2x glove boxes, music system and alloy wheels)!! Thats an actual 4-seater for you and your family to travel in, not a Vespa!! WaGs (Wives and Girlfriends) usually do not know the necessity of more power and better braking and its more often than not, futile to make them understand. A Tata Nano rescues most of us in this scenario. (Sorry @Gods of xBHP for advocating a car over a bike here).

Lol, if your P220 is going only for 55k, you might as well save the money bro. And go through with a full transfer to TN reg if its required. I totally agree with what antz says. If its a MBBS(miya-biwi-bachche-sameth) vehicle you're looking for, a car is your answer! Its daylight robbery to sell a p220 that cheap and that too only at 12k km. And yes, the headlights of the P220 are to die for, like I said earlier. I'd totally suggest you go in for the transfer and book a car(not a fan of the nano).

rightly said..nail on the head.started thinking now.but this rto people are telling me to fill forms 28,29,33 and n.o.c also and they will send it to bangalore rto.after the papers return from bangalore rto (maybe within 2 months) i could pay registration fee and get a tamilnadu registration no. is it the right procedure? if it is so, i have to travel daily with only road tax slip(tamilnadu),rc smart card, insurance .is it ok to ride without n.o.c. in chennai to avoid cops trouble.what if the bangalore rto shows neglicence in sending papers back? these are the things i really worried about.
