    I'm looking to buy a second hand bike in Pune that will serve me for the next three years or so while I do my college education here. Now I don't have a lot of money, so I'm looking to buy used, so keep that in mind when recommending.

    Basically, I'm looking for something under 40,000 INR. It has to be light and flickable. Obviously I'm not going to get a speed demon for this amount of money, but I need it to at least have a zippy feel to it rather than a full on commuter type bike which has no aggression in the engine at all. Also, being a college student, the looks are important to me (but I am willing to sacrifice on that if everything else is right.)

    I've previously owned a Honda Twister. Its actually the perfect bike for this kind of need, but I don't want the same thing again, so please don't recommend that.

    The bikes I'm currently considering include the Pulsar 135LS, the Yamaha Gladiator and the RX.

      Apache 150,160 would be ideal.
      Yamaha gladiator got nothing special to boast about.Peak Power at high rpms only.
      Stay off RX,although initial cost is less,petrol,spares will not come cheap.
      Pulsar 135 is also fine.Add a discover 150 to your list.

        If mileage of 35-40 kmpl is ok then you can see FZ else P135 is absolutely perfect in your case. Flick-ability has many definition but i would prefer FZ in handling/braking/Zic Zac in city and style!!

          I wouldn't mind an Apache 160 or an FZ, but I doubt I can get them under 40k. My budget cannot be extended at all unfortunately. The P135 looks like the prime contender right now.

          Are there any other models I have missed?

            Afaik, RTRs will come well in your 40k budget.

              I would look no further than a cbz.. easily available, rock solid engine hence good resale value.

                Why would you look for good resale value when buying a used bike??? Wouldn't it make it more expensive to buy for the 2nd hand buyer making the entire process counter-productive? Which would mean that he would have to buy an older example of a bike with *better resale* as compared to a newer example of a bike with *not so good resale* but still good enough (if not better) for his actual requirement. (Zippy feel instead of no aggression from the engine)

                @defreeman: If you are closing in on CBZ-Extreme, Dazzler should be available for lesser money for a bike of similar vintage which makes it a better deal since the Dazzler is a better specced motorcycle than the CBZ-Extreme. But An RTR160 / Pulsar 180 would be a better deal than both if you want more aggression from your ride.
                Advice is a form of nostalgia.
                Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

                  Options with threadstarter - CBZ/Unicorn/Hunk/Achiever/Yamaha FZ/Fazer/SZ/Discover150/Pulsar150/GS150R/RTR160/Pulsar180/Pulsar200
                  Lets target a two-three year 25-30K driven vehicle. FZ/Fazer is out of budget. Buying a CBZ/Unicorn in 40K and selling off after 3 years in 25-30K is the most suitable option that he has. I would prefer CBZ for a college goer than a unicorn.
                  Buying an unreliable Bajaj in 40K is not advisable. Same is with RTR. Even if he gets a good deal - he wont get a good resale from those.
                  Other options are very hard to source.. you will rarely find a hunk / achiever for sale.
                  I wont suggest any 125/135 cc second hand as they would have lost their peppiness after 30K on the odo.

                    RTRs have one of the most bulletproof engines I've seen. Yes, it's not as refined as many but it's bulletproof all the same.

                    Given that, I concede that a cbz or a dazzler would be a better choice. But these engines just aren't, for the lack of a better word, enthusiastic enough.

                      From the info I gathered from Xbhp,RTR has a bulletproof engine,much better quality parts than unicorn or R15.Low resale is a good thing as he is trying to buy a second hand one.

                          You got many good deals at that price. but the point is will he get one of these bike at that price locally.

                          For you, i would suggest :

                          Pulsar 135 and 150
                          CBZ extreme
                          apache RTR 160

                          Whichever bike you pick up, remember you are investing 40k and it should run long around 15-20k kms.
                          Its not the Bike that makes a Biker perfect, its a Biker who makes his Bike perfect :)

                            You're shouting P135 in the first post. I don't know how tough it is to source one, but you can check out places like Nana Peth and portals like quikr and olx.

                              I have no idea man,but thats what I read from Joel's thread.He swears that engine components of RTR/fiero is far better than that in karizhma,r15.Even I had no idea RTR have such bullet proof engine.No wonder I see a lot of fishermen use rtr,for their purposes.Many apaches after crossing 1L kms,are known to give decent mileage.
