• Choosing my first bike:)

After 3 months i'll turn eighteen & its time for me to get my first bike
The choice is really narrow.. The only two options i like are :
1) Yamaha YZF R15 v2.0
2) Honda CBR 150R

Budget not a problem... (can't be extended beyond CBR 150R thou )

Requirement : Daily commuting is really less... home to coaching, coaching to home... hangouts with friends.. city riding!
But i'd start monthly touring when i'll get my bike..

I've read all the forums related to these both bikes.. i know all of their strengths & flaws...
I know that R15 is a better track machine... and i know that CBR is a jack of all trades...

Because their performance is almost same... So now my choice mostly depends on the *LOOKS*
I want to know which bike will suit me better... on which one i'll look good.. on whom i can *SHOW OFF* more..

Height : 5' 9"
Health : Slim.. some people also call me skinny
Weight : 50 kg = 110 pound

So help me out in comparing the looks of these 2 premium machines...

P.S. - I'm biased towards CBR due to its sizzling green color, fuel efficiency & its comfortable pillion seat which is good for taking girls on rides as compared to the split seat of R15
Thank You

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

i think you have answered youself
cbr is the bike for you because r15 v2 does not look good for tall people but you should definitely increase your budget and go for cbr250r

If look is the only concern and if you like naked bikes(personally I don't like bikes with fairings) you can check out KTM Duke. Another option for you is FZ as it is balanced in all aspects except power but that too is good enough in cities. I think look wise FZ is the best looking(again a personal opinion).
Aged 18 means you have to depend on your parents for the initial cost as well as maintenance. If you buy FZ it won't burn a hole in your dads pocket
I know your parents can afford as you opted for the other bikes. Still you can do something from your part.

You're yet to turn 18. I have a question. Do you have a DL? Can you ride properly? Because, its the make or break age that you're in.
Anyways, you answered it yourself.

But if you ask me, I'd suggest your parents to pump more money for the CBR ABS (250cc, 160 kmph top end, 18 yr old kid - perfect recipe) or get yourself the Duke 200(ABS - shall come soon).
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Before suggesting any of the above options can you tell if

1.have u ridden a bike before ?
2.if so since when?
3.which two wheelers have u ridden so far ?
4.have you ridden any one of the above bikes before ?

appreciate your frankness about the purpose of getting a bike (show off and riding pillion with girls )
but if inexperienced i am sorry to say that a rider is bound to crash on any two wheeler especially on something that is as potent as the machines in question here.

for showing off + pillion comfort + your safety +touring comfort get a CBR 250 with ABS (you will need to strech your budget a little)

for showing off (if you dont mind a nude bike) +your safety get a duke 200 with ABS (not yet in the market but may be by the time u will book the bike)

for showing off get a R15 (others are superior in performance)

CBR 150 is over priced for the package it provides (better to go for the 250 as it has everything the 150 gives plus a lot more)

and an inexperienced rider might get himself killed on a duke 200 without ABS (it revs like its on rocket fuel and its temting for a new rider)

other options for you can be pulsar 200 NS , fazer and FZ (all three are cheaper to maintain and very forgiving when it comes to new riders)

also not very expensive when it comes to crashes

personally i would go for the duke 200 with ABS as its fast its safe ,it looks radical and the pillion would have to sit closer to you..

what ever you buy wear a helmet and ride safe..

been there, the dilemma you are in these days.

picked up 135 ls. 6 months , 13500 km, rode it hard and it left me craving for more power.

end result:riding 200 ns these days.

i say ,like antz.bin always says, pick up the most powerful bike in your budget.

duke would have been perfect for your budget, but then i don't know how much learned you are about riding. a careless twist of throttle can leave you in the dust.

and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
#overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Then decide after 2 months.. may be you will see some new entrant with new features.. or some upgrade in 150R or KTM.

KTM Duke 200 is good.. but i don't need that much power.. plus its naked.. there are no fairings..
And money is not a concern man.. its just like.. i'll get only my first bike from my father... 2nd, 3rd, 4th (the list goes on).. i'll earn myself!
and i'm not into naked bikes so FZ won't work... i like the bikes with fairings...
So, the choice still remains between R15 v2.0 & CBR 150R

No i don't have a driving license...
And i'm practicing to ride bike.. I ride each day using R15 version 1..
wouldn't like to break or damage my new bike.. so of course i'd learn to ride a bike properly before buying one..
Duke 200 won't work for me.. its all naked.. and i don't need that much power...
Budget doesn't allows CBR 250R...

So.. the choice remains between R15 v2.0 & CBR150R..
Thou i'm biased towards CBR.. but people constantly keep on telling me that R15 would suit me better due to my physique.. that's what causing the confusion !

I learned riding bike almost 2 years ago.. using some crappy bike.. it was named somethin' like CT 100..
But i'm practicing riding a bike.. Each day I ride Yamaha R15 version 1.. that's the best i have ridden..
I've not ridden the R15 v2.0 & the CBR 150R.. but i'd take a test ride of them both before making the final decision !

Even i appreciate your concern.. but don't worry... i won't ride a bike like MotoGP racer.. i'll just go slow & *show off*.. that's how i roll

And Duke 200 is not the bike for me.... i want fairings.. plus i don't need that much power..
So the choice still remains between R15 v2.0 & CBR 150R.. and *looks* are the priority !

5' 9" ain't tall man.. its like 'alright'.. 5' 11" or 6 is considered tall.. anyway, coming back to topic.. CBR 250R is clearly out of budget.. plus its not in a 'proportion' as much as 150R.. and is also less fuel efficient..
So the choice remains between R15 v2.0 & CBR 150R only..

Ok, so I guess you're quite aware that these bikes are a 'little' more powerful than the commuter bikes around (which you refer to as crappy).

First of all, use the multi-quote option to reply to multiple posts. (Use the + symbol at the bottom right of the post to select)

Now coming to your options:
1. R15 - will look better than the CBR no doubt. It'll suit your frame too. But, then there is no place for the pillion to sit properly. Let alone mom and dad, your girl friend will find it tough to sit on that 1st floor seat.
2. CBR - Good looks, sweet looking exhaust, better pillion comfort.

But, CBR has very less torque lower down w.r.t R15, hence that'll be a task in traffic. R15 is more aggressive in riding stance, hence it'll take some time to get used to it.
Highway stability is good on both. I hope you already know these facts.

All the best for your purchase 3 months in advance!

Maybe you can think about buying a second hand bike. So that you can learn as well as refine your riding skills.
In the event of a fall from bikes with fairing will cost you a bomb to change. And usually the fairings take the toll first. So it can be an expensive affair.

If you don't get angry at me for telling this, you are welcome the world of 2 strokes. I will suggest you go for a RX. It's a fun to ride bike and you will eventually become inseparable with it.

As a Yammie, if you ask me which of the two I will just say YES YAMAHA

And if my thinking is wrong & those bikes are good.. then i have no problem in admitting that... but i still think the other way around

Anyway coming back to comparison...
Its going to be one tough decision man...
I like R15.. i like its fairings... its front which resembles 'two eyes'..
but according to me, its skinny tail ruins the overall look...

On the other hand i like CBR 150R too... its front is good.. its tail is also quite good..
And in overall looks, its more proportionate... (except the side view.. which is a slight let down when viewed from 'some angles' )

Whatever be the choice... they both are awesome machines...

and Thank You for the advanced wishes

Man, i respect bikes & stuff.. but i still feel that better bikes can be supplied..
Anyway.. no offense for your biking feelings...
I just don't like those average commuter bikes... doesn't means any disrespect !
and now hopefully i can see them from a new point of view

wouldn't like to break or damage my new bike.. !

No, i won't be angry on you for your advice
But i'd prefer riding my new bike with care... Rather than buying a second hand bike due to fear of damage...
And if R15 v2.0 is your pick between 2 of them... then can you tell me why its better?

You want to show off and you mostly ride in the city = R15. And R15 V2 doesn't have a skinny rear, its better than the CBR's with led light n all.

Btw wear a lid while you show off.

as your main concern is to show off. I guess the r15 suits you much better. and about the pillion problem, girls can sit comfortably in the back seat of a r15 so you don't have to worry about that and r15 is pretty much popular among the girls as most of them can't make out between a r1 and r15 but one piece of advice make sure you don't go above your limits while SHOWING OFF ! ride safe. wear a lid and grow up
