  • R15 or CBR150R

I'd posted earlier, I was confused between the NS and the RTR180. Things have moved forward, so has the budget. I currently own a 2010 RTR180. I'll be passing it on to my younger brother who just turned 18, and would be using the new bike. It is sort of urgent, so I'd like a short answer from experienced members here. Please, I'm VERY confused.
    Thanks in advance.

Do share more details about yourself and the kind of usage the bike is expected to be subjected to.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Since you chose the RTR , i would like to think that you like power early on in the RPM band. And then the CBR 150 is not the bike for you. It's practically very sluggish in the lower band. But it's a all serious performer in the higher rev range. The bike loves to be revved up, if your riding style is mostly involving the higher rpm range , then the 150 would suit you.
The R15 at the same time is an allrounder in most rpm range. Comparing to the cbr , at higher rpm cbr has the advantage.
So let me list this out like this.

      R15

All rounder, handles great, brakes great, good useable torque and linear power delivery.
Easy to use in city(as compared to CBR150).
The downside that i can see is the Pillion seat, if you like riding solo, that won't be a problem.

In short, if you have a casual use and a few spirited runs , it's the perfect choice from your options.

      CBR150

Great engine, but it's more rev friendly , it always wants to be in the higher revs, if you can keep her in the higher revs, she won't dissapoint, but in lower revs, it's very sluggish, as compared to r15. And for the money you pay, the quality is below par, from what i hear. It's almost perfect as a track bike. But as a commute bike, not so sure.

Now, why don't you test ride both to your satisfaction and then desides.

      Cheers

        Re: R15 or CBR150R

        Well. My opinion :
The ceeber - it wants you to belt it left and right. It's like a very naughty mistress. If you love revving, listening to the bike go all the way, in short, nothing short of spirited riding, this 150 is for you.
+ : seating is comfortable. Embraces the highway. Fuel efficiency.
        - : price. Build quality. Power comes up very very late on the power band.

R15- it is the professional. It's not a forgiving bike. The ceeber will let you go easy. This bike expects competence, demands it. If you are competent, the bike will give you wings.
+ : highly professional. Exceptional balance of power, weight, dynamics. Braking is beautiful.
-: fuel efficiency. Ergonomics are too aggressive for Indian roads.

There actually is nothing important you can fault with the r15.

Why are you looking at the 150s now, though? I read through your old thread and gave you my opinion too.
You've done a sub 200cc. Take it further up. Get the duke or something!!

True, why do you want to be riding 17 BHP again? Go for the Duke! Anyways, if you really have a heart set for the R15 or the CBR[ point in this case is me for the R15] then go for the one you like more.

            Re: R15 or CBR150R

            Firstly, thanks for the replies.

Why I am not looking at more powerful bikes - technically this new bike will be for my 18 year old brother, and he is a newbie to this, and I want something ill enjoy riding (will be an upgrade from the RTR) and also won't be too much for my brother to handle.

And about the usage: I travel 25km one was to college, all city. And then a few 150+km rides on the highway once a while. The highway experience is what I aim to better.

BTW, I did test ride the R15, and honestly I ain't overly impressed. Maybe I had high expectations, or maybe I'm just used to the low end delivery from the RTR. Nonetheless, I felt that the bike was at ease at speeds of around 80kmph in the 5th gear.
And pillion seating is no problem for me, 99% of the time I'm riding without one.

Duke.... you've ignited the spark once again. Dad earlier said no because of the excessive power and then there was a 12k increase in price...
