  • Help! Total Noob here! Buying my first bike!

    Hey guys,
This is my first post in the forum and i am really happy to be a part if XBHP!! comng to the point , i am in college and commute 12 km a day .I am about to purchase my first bike .
I am currently using my dad's 2007 Discover 125 DTSi and i am into buying one of these :
    >>Pulsar 200ns
    >>Apache 180 Abs
    >>Yamaha Fz-s

I know these are all totally different bikes , I have read so many posts /Threads here and i am going crazy !

i am into the yamaha because its supposedly without issues which the 200 ns has.I have read too much about vibrations , coolant overflows , engine problems and what not!.Are these issues solved in recent batches ?

I also dislike the yamaha because of the poor mileage/performance ratio and the outdated look. But it is said to be really reliable.
I like the Apache because of its looks ( i know i am one of the very few ) and also because of the ABS .And a good mileage for the performance it offers.

CBR 150 and R15 v2 cost little too much for me as i am getting this bike with my cash (saving+IM )

I would really like your opinion!

EDIT : UPDATE! Check out my last post!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

The Yammie is reliable and has excellent handling, and FE is not very bad. If you are looking at FE, performance will definitely take a hit.
The 200NS is not as bad as some people portray it. A couple of issues here and there do not reflect the reliability of a bike in general.
Coming to the Apache, it's the only bike under 1L offering ABS, so it has it's own USP. However, vibration at high speeds still remains an issue.

Coming to the 3 models, my personal choice would be the 200NS.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Being a college student, I would recomend the FZ. Its the most reliable bike of lot. Else for performance, you can go for RTR 180/ P220.
I am not recomending the P200, due to minor niggles are still to be bottled out by Bajaj, and you being inexperienced in biking, might loose your nerve taking care of it. May be the next lot would be better. P220 is a great, maintenance-free bike in comparison.
Hence my advise-Being a noob, Get a FZ now, ride for 2 years, sell it, go for more powerful one. You will get so many good bikes then, for upgrading.

Thanks a lot for the advise guys!
I am ok with buying the FZ but its otr is 83k here and 99k for the 200 ns .I mean the difference isnt huge and buying it to throw it off doesnt make much sense to me.I need a bike i can keep for atleast four years.
When will the next 200 ns batch come out ? is there a white coloured 200 ns ?
            I usually ride within 90kmph , i dont think i will tour either.But i looking for something with a good 0-90 ( max 100) experience ..
            thanks again!

The 200NS will definitely last much more your targeted usage - it's not that bad at all - it just needs a little more pampering compared to a commuter bike like the Discover/Unicorn. Speaking of colors, I had a discussion with Bajaj ASC 3 months ago when I was planning to buy a new bike. There are no plans for a consumer-centric white pulsar. They might roll out a few white ones for the cops (we have seen this previously too - white pulsars and FZs exclusively for cops).

thank you!i will have that in mind . which one do you think is better? a rtr 180 abs or a 200 ns ? (leaving the obvious 20cc/bhp advantage )

I feel, you should be asking yourself "Which one would suit me better?"

Both are very good machines in their own rights. Apache comes with an ABS (better safety) and is a very capable machine for the city. The 200NS is an excellent all-rounder for city as well as highways. The 200NS more powerful, more refined than the Apache, features a liquid-cooled engine but lacks the ABS. I'd suggest you test-ride both and make a final choice.

Though you may not cross 100, you need to look at how the bike behaves when you reach say 90kmph..The 150's are stressed at that point, the RTR is screaming in all it's glory and the NS just is comfortable... And both, the RTR and NS are fantastic machines which return respectable mileage figure while giving you the thrills. Test ride both of them coz the riding position is very different.
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

what is the ideal cruising speed for hero impulse where it can give respectable mileage too ? i have heard it reaches 100 with lot of difficulty.
i feel it has that ideal seating upright position for long drives. the only problem is it is grossly underpowered.

The 200 NS stands here as the best Vfm, most advanced, great power at lower price, handling is superb.
Coming to Fz-s, its technically not as good as the Ns, But Yamaha's quality is outstanding.
Apache too is a great choice, But if you want the most powerful machine here for a decent price + most advanced here in all three, Go for the 200 NS.

NS - Can do everything the other two in your list can and more. VFM. Best in tech. But being new, Bajaj is yet to iron out some issues with the bike.
RTR - Fun! Vibes - bearable within 100kmph if you ask me. You'll get over them. Returns good mileage and gives you a lot of fun. Tried 'n' tested. Bulletproof engine. Bad SVC.
FZ - Doesn't match up to the other two bikes in performance. The 200NS equals it in comfort. Will return lesser mileage than both the other bikes. Good beginner's bike. It's easy to take care of. Over priced.
Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.

definately it must be apache 180 abs better speed and safety.
if three bikes are in list fz,180 and NS then its better to buy a thing which is balanced between all and here 180 abs is the bike...
you may also try p220 or zma ...

Other 2 bikes added in the list
More confusion to the buyer here.
