I understand that you are primarily looking for a commuter, and in this regard, the FZ is a tried, tested and popular machine, it will return a better average, and also, it won't get hot in bumper-to-bumper crawling traffic (LC engines tend to get hot in crawling traffic).

But for that once-in-a-while weekend ride, the Pulsar will thrill you on highways with an effortless sprint to 120kph and beyond. The FZ will lose it's breath after 90kph, and will go to a max of 105. Both the bikes will suit you well...but if your budget is 1L...then why not go for the better of the two, if FE is not a big criteria for you?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

FZ is now quite old bike to be brought unless you are not features savy or Yamaha Fan !!
Handling and performance wise both are almost same. But NS200 being 200c gives more better average as compare to power it produces. Additionally it has better features as compare to FZ along with low cost spare parts.
Though you will need more gear shifting in NS but it's nothing that one can't live with it. Buy and see surely you will start touring and enjoy biking !! Both bikes are same comfortable to ride.

One should always buy the best product in same range. SO here it would be NS200.

If you are not convince with NS200 then please look at RTR 180 ABS. It is good in city as well as same in handling as compare to FZ. the only negligible point is FZ is more comfortable than RTR. But as your ride is for small kms that won't effect.
RTR has ABS and better power and rear disc brakes as compare to FZ along with better FE.

Yamaha Fazer vs Pulsar 200 NS

          Hey Folks,

I'm Sooraj Kumar 18 yrs old from Chennai, studying management coarse at IIPM. Just now I got my two wheeler license and planning to purchase my first bike and my maximum budget is 1 lakh. I have been doing a lot of research for past 3 weeks and now i came to a conclusion of getting either Yamaha Fazer or Pulsar 200NS. I drive around 25-30 kms a day on college days and on week days i might hang out with my friends. And i will only drive within city. 99% I might never go out of city on my motorcycle. What motorcycle should i get ?

I know Fazer is under-powered compared 200ns but im scared about pulsar's quality and reliability compared to japanese motorcycle companies. And this is my first motorcycle and i learnt biking on my friend's activa, hero splendor and tvs sport. And i heared lot of negative things bajaj's service. About Yamaha's service im getting mixed opinions and most of them are saying that service and spares of yamaha is expensive.

Which motorcycle should i go with and why ? And are there any better alternatives for these two bikes to go with ? In case if im going with 200 ns will it be a good bike to start with ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Both bikes suits your requirement FZ is better for city riding while 200NS is a new model in looks. 200NS is costly than FZ

I have been using FZ-S for over a year now. I am over 6' and have no issues handling it in traffic or doing long commutes. As others have said, going above 90+ is like a golden egg for the owners. But, thats upto us how fast we want to go.

If you will be riding within city limits only, the FZ would make more sense. You might as well spend the remaining cash on good riding gears. Again, the 200NS will be too wild a beast if you are new to riding. The FZ has got good torque (pulling power) and is an excellent handler in city.

Don't believe everything that you hear bro! Check the facts with your friends/neighbours, speak to long-term owners and if required, do take a trip to the ASCs to see their standards. Overall, I am happy with Yamaha's ASCs. Never had an experience with Bajaj service. Regarding spares, Bajaj is cheaper compared to Yamaha any day.

fz shouldnt be in the list
                    it should be NS only...

other choices may be ZMA or apache 180 abs

Nothing wrong with FZ as such. For someone who's new to biking and looking purely for city riding and doesn't want to race at 120 on the streets, a FZ definitely makes sense. Add a price difference of 20k+ in the equation.

Any particular reason why you are opposed to the FZ?

Agree to that.....would pick ns over fz....anyday.....ns has got much more torque...power....acceleration...handling.....and it doesnt get affected by crosswinds on highways.

200cc is always a better bike than a 150cc bike...
you wont buy a bike daily if budget is good then why not go with the best bike in budget...

Guys, Sooraj is asking 200NS vs 'Fazer' and not FZ.

Fazer is quite a good bike to own, especially the comfort and semi fairing. But If you compare that with a 200NS there is no comparison at all.

Three points that goes with Fazer when compared to 200NS are 1) Semi Fairing 2) Yamaha Tag 3) Price. Feature number 1 is a super feature and those who have ridden a naked bike and Fazer would easily feel the difference. But for city rides, this fairing is troublesome. Yamaha Tag.. its one's perspective, would save my comment on this. Price - a difference of 10-12K INR is present

If you can extend the budget to get the NS, there should not be any further looking around.
