Weight, sporty riding position or wind shield has nothing to do here. 137 kg Aprilia RS125, 265 kgs Yamaha MT-01, 310 kgs Yamaha Vmax, 220 kgs Honda CBR1000 are stable at high speed too. All except Aprilia are heavy and naked.

All that theories apart, ride a D200 and Cbr at 100+ speeds and find which one's more stable!

      Ha ha ha.....
But the only problem is that the showroom guys won't let us try for so long.... I mean I tested Duke for around 500m in the parking lot. .... :what: :banghead:

CBR guys were more generous to let me drive on actual Road for 1km, with their guy sitting behind me as pillion. . :what:...

This can only be done if two of your friends have these bikes and are generous enough to let you tale her for a spin.

This thread is going haywire! People are always looking for opportunities for a CBR vs Duke duel even though the two bikes are so different!

I think your best option now would be to get on to the street, check if any of your CBR and Duke riding buddies are willing to exchange their rides with your TB for a 30-50 km ride on a Sunday morning. That will be the best course of action

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

The irony is, none of my friends have Duke or CBR.... mostly they have bullets/Tbts....

I would suggest the CBR 250R if you are going to hit the highway often. If you are going to be riding mostly in the cities with occasional highway stints, then the 390 would do. Mind you, the 390 is both expensive and will give lower FE compared to the CBR. You will have to choose based on your priorites.

Dude, CBR 250R is more stable than Duke 200. It has been tried and tested. Duke is a lightweight naked bike whereas CBR is a faired, middleweight ride. CBR has its wheels firmly planted even at 130+, where as the Duke will struggle a lot at those speeds. The same will be expected of the Duke 390, though it may be a bit more stable than the 200 and hit around 160~170ks (with a lot of effort). Whereas even a lower powered faired bike like the Ninja 300 will be hitting the same speeds with much ease compared to the 390. Weight and the fairing does matter when it comes to high speed stability.

Try to request the manager of the showroom for a long test ride.

I too had a similar problem, i wanted to take a long test ride of cbr with my wife as pillion.

So i went there several times and kept on requesting. Luckily i found some contacts with the owner and manager. In the end i got what i wanted.

Remember, in the begining if you dont succeed, you just need to try harder.

And sorry guys for taking up some space of this thread by my above post.

Even a heavy naked bike like the ER6N, or the Streetfighter,Monster,CB1000R,FZ1 will be stable for speeds beyond 150 that is because
                  1. They are quite heavy
                  2. They are quite powerful.

But their faired counterparts are always much better. You cannot compare the Duke with a Vmax or MT01, they are both miles apart. Duke 200 simply will not be stable at high speeds. Heck even the light weight R15 is stable at high speeds that's because of the fairings. What I meant by stability is the wheels being firmly planted on the road and the ability of a bike to maintain a straight line when hitting high speeds without too much of drag, also not to mention about the windblasts. Fairings matter a lot for this. A fully faired bike will always be more stable than a naked bike at high speeds.
If this is not what you mean by stability, then tell me what it is.
PS: CBR1000 is not a naked bike. Its CB1000R.
PPS: Its better to create a new topic for this discussion instead of going OT in this thread.
Yup... this is what I also think. .. Thanks for putting it up bro!

I will wait for few days for any new announcements. .. then will sell my tbts and get what I decide. .. Duke or CBR....

Duke got me impressed in first ride, it felt all natural while CBR's posture was bit diff for me....it will take me some time to get used to it as I come from a cruiser TBTS.

This is a big statement. Think about it deeply.

In my opinion, there are two kind of riders -- first type are those who like to sit straight and prefer commuter/street fighter riding stance. These generally ride karizma or duke etc...

The second type of riders prefer forward lean riding position. Like cbr250r.

The first type of riders if put on a bike with forward lean riding stance becomes uncomfortable.

                      So decide wisely.

So, I guess I haven't used any bike that needed leaning.... mostly RE....

Not that I cannot use it. It's just that on the first shot it felt so much different..... I mean, after riding TBTS for over 13k kms, I feel uncomfortable on my Unicorn too...

Its about conditioning. .. in a way you adapt to your ride....

If I select CBR, for the first month, I will ride like if I have no riding experience..
But then we will get to know each other... n things will start rolling in 3 digits. .

I believe all good riders can adapt.... this is what makes them good. .

Since you have been riding a cruiser all this time, it will take some time till you get used to a CBR, imho, CBR doesn't have as much forward lean like the R15, so it shouldn't be uncomfortable and if you are a bit tall, you will have a much neutral stance while riding, but personal preference matters. I would tell you to go for the CBR if you are going to hit the highways often. If you are a total city rider, then the Duke would do just fine.

What ever are the requirements/ needs, since you have the 390 in mind, i need not to say its a wise idea to wait for the 390 to launch. IMO any new buyer targeting the premium segment would do that!

CBR 250 makes more sense with your height and usage.
D390 design is almost same as D200 so the 6ft person will surely have foot peg issue: keg cramps.
Still it's your choice which one to choose.

                              Have you checked ZMR ??

Don't go by numbers only go by need. I think even ZMR would be also compatible with you and your usage.

But if you are not really in a hurry, just wait till the 390 hits showrooms. A ride will clear up all the thoughts in your mind and will make it easier to lock on to a choice the sedate touring capabilities of CBR or the wilderness of the 390.
