  • RTR Fi Vs R15 Vs Karizma

    Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a bike in during October-December 09'. My requirements are:-

    1) Reliability
    2) Excellent acceleration
    3) Good A.S.S (in Hyderabad)
    4) Good ride comfort
    5) Fuel efficiency of 35-40kmpl (40 is preferred)

I am 5feet 8 inches in height and weigh 55kgs.

I am riding an 1986 model RX100 for the past seven years, which was handed down to me by my father. 22 years and trouble free performance. So my first requirement is reliability. I cannot afford to lose sleep and waste time visiting service center on every full moon.

Those of you who have rode an RX100 would know, it has a spirited acceleration. But somehow, I am not too impressed with its 0-40 capabilities. So the bike I want to buy should have good low end torque.

I have a weak lower back (courtesy-7 years on an RX100, the bone crusher) and I need something with good functional shock absorbers which doesnt expect my spine to do the job.

I cannot tolerate crazy FE figures of 25kmpl and figures like that.

Now, the positives and the negatives of the bikes (my perception) I have shorlisted

    Karizma
+ves a) Reliable, good ride comfort
-ves b) Bulky, poor FE (reported)

    R15
+ves a) Novelty factor, light weight, technolgy jing bang
-ves b) Rusting (as reported by guys on this forum), rev hungry engine, reported poor low end torque, all this making it overpriced?

    RTR Fi
+ves a) VFM, relatively light weight, fantastic riding position, good flickability like my RX
-ves b) Poor A.S.S, concerns regarding vibrations, power loss in certain RPM band

Having listed out all that, I must say at this point in time I am positively biased towards RTR Fi. Only thing stopping me is A.S.S and vibrations issues. Infact, if I can decide on RTR Fi I can buy the bike as early as May.

I request all of you to help me make a decison. I have not short-listed Unicorn or Pulsar because they are very bulky and Unicorn especially feels like a ship.

    Sorry for the long post.

Hiii...NitinGirish, You want to buy your bike in Oct-Dec '09.....(as early as may in case of RTR FI)..... Its only 1st week of January... Why don't you wait for few more months before zeroing to the bike...In 2009 several new bikes will be launched.....
Anywz, from your post it's clear that you do not like bulky bike........Then If you want me to choose among these three bikes, I would say.... RTR Fi is the bike for you.........

Agreed. But among the launches, I think except for the Ninja & TVS Menance nothing else seems to be exciting. Ninja I think will be out of my budget.

From these three RTR Fi will suit you but till the time you buy your bike there will be many new bikes so I find this thread useless.

Well, lets see the launch price. Till then, I advise you to save money as much as possible. October is way too far ahead. Its a long wait, and most major launches of 2009 will be before that. So if you could wait, then it would be a clear market view.

Your requirements of the bike are pretty strict. Its hard for me to suggest any bike among the three you mentioned as either of them have negatives and positives. None of them can fulfill all your requirements.

Why do you say none of them meets my requirements? I thought RTR Fi is kind of ok. Do you have anything else on your mind? Forget about the new launches, coz I am not too hopeful of seeing breakthrough products coming (like FZ16 or R15) . Most of them will be sticker jobs with + or - added to them

Yeah, I am saving already and I am on track. I do not want to buy it on an EMI, which is why I am planning so early. Besides, I do not want to buy a product which is not on streets atleast for an year.

@Nitin: I think you yourself said it-RTR Fi seems to be the best bet for you. Also, Apache 180 may be launched next year, but you may cross it out due to FE figures. I would say go for a 2009 model manufactured bike, you can safely do that even after 1st quarter. Buying it in the last quarter would also give you a '09 model, but losing out on the resale would be more or less equal to the interest amount if you go for a loan.
Don't worry about A.S.S. As long as you're in Hyderabad, I can suggest the best TVS authorized mechs to you. My F2 is living proof of that (2004 model, 45K kms.&still counting). All the best!

Thanks R15 Rocks Are you sure TVS A.S.S is good? coz if it is, then I will buy it in April itself and not bother myself about R15. How is Susheel TVS? Just curious coz its the most accessible from where I stay.
