  • Please Suggest 125-150cc bike

    Hello Guys!
I am a regular reader of this forum and I decided to sign up today because I need suggestions now. Hope you would help

Six months back, I bought a Hero Glamour Disk variant (carb model). The problem is with mileage. It gave me 52kmpl before 1st service. Then it came at 56kmpl average in both city and long. But the bike felt rough now. The exhaust note was very high and it felt like I was taking its life when the speedo reached 60. So I got it tuned again and now the mileage came down to 43kmpl with reduced sound. 43kmpl was too low for a 125cc especially when I maintained the speed between 40-50! So finally another mechanic kept the fuel screw at 1 n half turns and that gave me 70kmpl ( without gear shifts and clutch and at 40kmph). But I soon realized that it was too lean. Overtaking was a mess now! The bike felt underpowered and seemed to decelerate after 80kmph and felt like there was no fuel left. So the mechanic kept it at 1 and 3/4th of a turn and the bike was pretty much responsive now. But I was shocked to see the mileage now…it was 35kmpl and at most went to 44kmpl in city. I normally drive in 3rd or 4th even in city. That is not expected from a 9bhp 125cc!

My 2nd service is completed and guys at Hero haven’t been able to correct the mileage and they blame fuel pumps and riding style. I know the petrol nowadays is adulterated after the slashed prices and many pump owners do not give proper amount. But even at that the mileage should not be this low! I can’t make it further lean as it starts heating problem then.

I have been using Hero 4T 10W30 and have done 1300km since last oil change. Bike has 4000km approx on the odo. Hero Honda to Hero is a big downfall guys Even the acceleration is slower on my Glamour when compared to my friend’s Hero Honda Glamour. The tires are of TVS and I have had near death experiences with them. You won’t believe my bike skid at 25kmph! The engine feels very rough at times and you can feel high exhaust sound besides vibes near thighs. Thankfully, the handlebar is free of vibrations. Suggest me what to do? I mostly keep my bike within 40-50 and occasionally at 60…beyond that it feels like I am squeezing the life out of the engine!

I love my bike as much as I do love myself. Guys you know it feels very bad. I am thinking of selling off this bike now. At just 6 months and 4000kms it should fetch some price? It still looks new. Besides suggesting me on this one, will you please tell me how is Pulsar 135LS in terms of mileage and speed in real world? I mean, I have read almost all the reviews on the Internet but I want to personally ask its users who have completed at least 3000kms on the bike. And better if those who bought it in 2010 can tell me how is their bike now because I have heard that Bajaj bikes don’t last. How serious is the vibration? What about the gearbox? Many have complained that the bike is a ‘failure model’ and blah blah and at the same times the bike got so many awards! I am confused because this time I can’t risk all that money on any crap if I at all buy a new bike! I am a college student and I need looks+mileage+performance at an affordable price with quality assurance.

Do not suggest Shine. It looks real boring.
Do not suggest Stunner as I’ve heard it starts vibes after 60 + has a hard time reaching 100!

    Thank you in advance

Puslar 135LS is a good option dude..but not a better option..u can always go for 150 cc..if u want power..mileage..and reliability..go for CB Unicorn..how ever stock bike is not so eyecandy..sure u can strip the above-tank storage bag and RVM to giv it a nice look.

        Dear Alex,
First of all feel very sorry for your situation. Glamour is a very good bike which is having very good low end torque which translate into effortless and comfortable riding.
Ideal performing Glamour will easily fetch you 60 kmpl.

The above scenario tells me that something else is problem in your bike other than AFR tuning. Take your bike to another hero service center and explain your problem with history.
Have to check from other angles such as Ignition, airbox, air manifold leakage etc.

Before jumping into another new bike please try another reputed Hero service center.
        Good luck.

First of all, thank you moderators for approving my thread and editing it
But I do not wish to go for 150cc right now as I have the mileage thing in concern a bit...

          ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

150cc is out of cards bro...this bike which promised me 65kmpl is now at 40 average...I wonder what I will do with bikes which promise 45 average
Moreover I am really depressed because my bike is so new and this is not expected...

          Thanx for suggesting bro
I had taken my bike to the best mechanic in my city and he told me that he can tune it for mileage but then it might hurt the engine...
And he had checked everything on the bike and upto 60 the bike is quick and he told me that everything is cool and the problem might be in the quality of petrol...
Regarding acceleration, he agreed that Hero bikes won't accelerate as fast as Hero Honda bikes...may be they did some tweaks here and there...
Regarding sound, he told that it is common nowadays with new Hero Glamours with poor quality ( poorer that Hero Honda) metals....don't know how far is that true...

But frankly, my bike has everything cool upto 60...beyond that the problem starts...and then the mileage thing....it should go at least 60km in 100rs of petrol? But I don't get that....
Really, changing bike after 6 months is something that strikes me too...and that too when Hero is known for reliability....
And the showroom here is the largest in the district...so they have so many equipments but they are blaming petrol...

I am not too inclined into Bajaj bikes but even a 150cc pulsar gets more power and mileage than my 125cc glamour today :/

Buddy, give her a last chance, get engine flushing done for INR 110-200 and if your based in the central line, go to archana motors in vikhroli (authorised service centre), for the free service, n tell them what problems your facing from the scratch, they are so genuine people never over charged for anything, and mechs have awesome knowledge and the best thing, they never say "sir ye vibration to sab bikes me aata hai, we cant do anything" etc. If things work out well, then great, if not, never buy a stunner if you hate vibes at 60. I have a stunner 2008 model, its still very very reliable, she has been abused all the time by me n dad, but never let us down except vibes. Regarding p135, superb machine, 118 was my speed record on a frnd's p135 (2010 model), average he gets now is around 50-55 at speeds of 45-50kmph. Vibes not bad as stunner, reliability is a question as 2 frnds have p135 both 2010, both maintain in a great manner but one of it has developed many issues whereas other is as good as new. Both of them always bad mouth the bajaj svc. I would suggest you to go with a 150cc if u want smooth n refined engine. And survival of a bajaj bike is on 2 things, maintainence (im not talking about svc, talking about the way you understand her and keep her fit, as the svc guys are helpless) and your luck.
Its just like chala to chaand tak, warna shaam tak.

Yes I do face vibes even on the handle bars after 60+ but i used to love those vibes initially, used to give me a feeling as if im at 120kmph, but the speedo always made me realise the fact that im at 80kmph, so i always avoided looking at the speedo and enjoyed those days. Then i got a hero impulse which is smooth that now stunner's vibes are unbearable. But she is very very reliable. I still love her.

In addition to many many suggestions floating above ............ lemme add here something .............

either take your bike to one of the nearest Castrol Bike Points ( loadmovie ) and get it thoroughly checked or contact xBhp guys from your native region at xBhp Offline Meets(G2G's) to find out out a good mechanic.

hehehe ............. still it is the Lion of the Pride (I mean Premium 125 cc Segment) .............. if you have issues with the vibrations (look at the capacity of our Indian bikes and the speed expectations than we Indians carry to push them to .......... every bike vibrates) it can be sorted out by replacing the stock 14T sprocket with the stock 15T sprocket of Unicorn and you are good to go. The bike is built like the GOD of thunder "Zeus" (I'm not referring to that Suzuki ..... ok). Utter quality is what you get at Honda (barring quality issues which comes in 1 out of 100, as the data says) but yet Quality comes at a price and so the spares are a bit expensive & yes they are way too good than the competition. I had pushed my stunner on Taj Express Way at 95+ kmph for continuous 20 mins .......... and after which it was still running good ............ you see this what Honda is all about

Pulsar 135 LS is another good bike, which drives smooth (but is also a vibrating machine at speeds above 65-70 kmph) has more power than a 125 cc bike and let me tell you one of my friend (who is a strictly 45 Kmph rider) gets an average of 60 Kmpl from his bike . It is just a myth that Bajaj bikes don't last long .............. If you maintain the needs of a Bike why will it go away (So, avoid getting carried away by the folklore that runs in the market). And with Bajaj, the spares are relatively cheaper than Honda.

Yes bro, even with my Glamour I had touched top speed of 99kmph after completing 1500km...speedo was then stuck there but I had kept it there for around a minute and trust me there were no vibrations except very little tingling sensation near right thighs...and that was with a pillion. Handlebars were vibe free and still are...and the bike actually felt more smooth after that...so yes I agree...thats Honda! Glamour could have 5 gears to make it feel better. But since a month I am getting this stressed out feel from engine and the drop in mileage. I will definitely get her checked

Regarding Pulsar 135..it was my 1st choice before Glamour but dad doesn't like Bajaj...so we went for Glamour...needless to say, Pulsar revs upto 10.5k so there will be more maintenance and at 122kg only it will vibrate also...but then all bikes vibrate more or less....thanx for replying...

My man, at 99 Kmph on an Indian bike (say 125 cc) you are about to kiss or have almost kissed "the red line" and you say "very little tingling sensation near right thighs" ................. c'mon !!

Just felt like adding one more point, that after such a push up for a time duration the bike is bound to get "a bit" rough till the engine oil reaches back the regular working temp . I hope you realize my concern.

I called the showroom guys today again and am now going to showroom to get it checked again lets hope for the best
