  • Need genuine advice

Hello everyone, this is my first post on xbhp. I have been in a spot of bother for the last month or so. I have been a die hard RE fan since i was 16 or so and till now have the dream of owning one. I landed up in my first job 2 months ago n since the day i joined iv only been thinking of saving up 1.35lacs for a new CL350. Iv not spent a pie from my first months salary. If all goes fine, i plan to book the bike this month and take delivery after 8 months by which time i wud have saved nearly 1.5 lacs. Now the problem is iv been reading so much in the past month abt the bull and about how it is hard on its maintanence and how frequently it needs servicing plus its parts giving way, oil leakages, rusting problems etc. I want to know wht are the problems i could expect in it. And also how much amount, on an average per month, should i be expected to keep aside for my bull ?? I frankly do not mind in spending for my (prospective) bull, but given my meagre and small income, i feel i need to do a lot of planning. Please help, my fellow bulleteers.

If you can somehow stretch your budget then CL500 is THE bike for you. What I have heard is that present lot of RE bikes gives less trouble than their older cousin. I strongly advice you for CL500 since it's one time investment you are going to make.

Hello brother. I do not own an RE. Just like yourselves I was and am still a silent admirer of CL350 and Electra. But my colleagues do own a few REs.Honestly, any bike would need maintenance periodically and of course it completely depends on your riding style and attitude. Rusting is seen only in exhaust area. It was explained that few bikes developed rust at the factory itself when it was waiting to be transported to dealers. However it was taken care with warranties I guess.Oil leaks are a serious concern on any bike. Few REs might have manufacturing defects and this will be fixed in the services. It can be fixed. It also is a result of poor maintenance. However, I would not call it maintenance free. It does need maintenance. Consider the chromed parts on it especially the complete engine. Whew!!! Real maintenance required to retain the vintage look and the shine. Now, just visualize the scene where your neighbours, colleagues, friends and pedestrians throwing a glance at your bike with full admiration??? I believe every effort is really worth it.REs guarantees admiration, provokes jealousy, elevates your status and above all instills pride in you. So be prepared to ride it in a subtle manner and allocate contingency funds and you are likely to have the above offerings from an RE permanently.Go ahead! Good luck mate!

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

          Re: Need genuine advice

I'll give you a quick answer and won't try to elaborate it much. . . You like something, so just go get it mann, why worry to much about anything else, cos if you keep thinking, everyone will have different opinions on a bike and it varies from person to person, why don't you just go take a test ride of it and then see how it feels. . ?

Now coming to your queries as said above, every bike requires maintenance that's a common thing. . . I have two friends who own bullet 350 and both have very good opinion on it and they have been riding it pretty happily and both suggested me to get one if I am planning to get a bike for "LONG-TERM USE" I think you got it. . ? I really enjoy riding the Classic 350 and I'm impressed I have to say after riding almost every kind of bike. . . Now one in my two friends suggested me that electra 350 is a bit better than classic 350, so why don't you consider that. . ? Trust me, it's a wonderful bike and I love to ride it, even though I don't own one but whenever my friend brings his bike, the keys will be with me till he goes back. . .

Finally, just go with what you like and you'll be way happier in the future. . .

          Cheers!!!

            Re: Need genuine advice

and another thing forgot to mention. . . If you have little budget issues then just take the bike three to four times a week bro, that's what my other friend does but he takes it daily evening for short distance travels here and there and on weekends sometimes for rides. . . The main thing is to get what you love. . . Hope the suggestions helped. . .

            Cheers!!!

The ratio of oil leaks and rust seen on Electra(s) are far lesser than CL350 is what I would add to your decision tree. Hope that helped!

Mmmmmh I dint enquire him much about that bro, cos I love sports bike over these classic bikes, . . . May be the above said reason might be one among them. . . The only thing I remember is that he said comparatively it is better than classic 350 and electra is a good option and also for my build and height, he used to say just get that, that's all I can say. . . And may be that it gives less problem to you compared to classic, I think I heard this , don't remember so much, cos I was in a different of riding the bike, so couldn't pay 100% attention to his words. . . That's the thing, just get either one of these, preferably try for electra and also just test ride few times until you make a decision, go with the one which you feel comfortable and with which you are happy and Mmmmh I think that's all I can say mate. . . Get your ride soon and keep us posted about the things every now and then. . .

                      Cheers!!!
