  • Advice regarding buying Honda CBR150R

    Hi all,

I joined this forum recently and this is my first post on the forum.

My age is 36 although I look 26ish...., height 5 ft 7 in and weigh 66 kg. My last bike was a Yamaha RX135 which I sold about five years back and since then drive a car.

I have test driven the R15, Duke 200, CBR 150R. No offence to any brand/bike and all of them are great contenders, but after test driving all three and extensively reading the reviews in various forums, I have finally decided to go ahead with CBR 150 which I think suits my needs best.

R15 -wonderful bike but too sporty/aggressive for my age and style.

Duke 200 - I wish it would have arrived when I was in college, I would have hands down gone for this bike.

CBR 150R - I am aware of the sluggish low-end torque as most of my driving would be in city, but I think overall it suits my needs very well...

Now a few doubts that I have:

    1. Does anyone have any clue of a CBR 150R version 2 rolling out any time soon......because I am in no hurry and can wait for a few months for my new ride. (I have a shop in Delhi and travel by car....the bike will be used about twice a week for work and occasional highway rides for fun).

    2. Could you suggest any dealer in Delhi (preferably North or West Delhi) from whom to buy it as I want it to be serviced properly and I guess not all dealers/SVC do it properly....I like to take good care of my machines...I currently own a 2006 Esteem Vxi and feel proud to say that very few Esteem cars on Delhi roads would be so good to drive...the exterior is also relatively very good keeping in mind the Delhi traffic where you never know when someone is going to scratch from the sides or hit the bumper...special mention here to auto-rickshaw drivers.

Any related suggestions/advise would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for your valuable suggestions and time.

Re: Advice regarding buying Honda CBR150R

@RockyM firstly welcome to Xbhp. . . Now considering your age and needs, indeed the CBR150R will suit you, just go for it. . . That's my love bike too, waiting to buy one myself. . . BTW there is no such things as of yet heard from Honda about a CBR150R version 2, so just go with the present ones. . . I love the orange the best, but don't know what you like, you can try out with the other colors which are also attractive, the Black green, the black and white and the red and white all are good but I think the Orange is the most eye catcher of all, apart from that Black and green is second. . . About the low torque, it's just a matter of time before you get used to the bike after that you can start riding in any kind of traffic. . . BTW You have made a good choice of the bike. . . Other than these if you are interested, go with the bigger bro of 150R, the CBR250R, now you get new colours which are damn damn good. . .

      Cheers!!!

Re: Advice regarding buying Honda CBR150R

Thanks "Rakesh Rok" for the prompt reply.

Although it is unlikely that I would go for the CBR 250 due to budget constraints, but leaving apart the money thing, do you feel the 250 would be better than 150 considering that I would mostly drive in the city. Also a psychological barrier that is disturbing me while buying the CBR150 is the 150 cc tag attached to it....I do not want to justify to people who ask the price of CBR150 how good this 150 cc engine is, reliability, performance...blah..blah..blah. Hope you get what I mean .

Also, if anyone could help with my second query about the dealers.

        Thanks again in advance.

In short words, the CBR250R is the best bike in it's class. . . Let me just paste a short reveiw got from a website,
Honda CBR250R’s pricing is the biggest USP of this bike. At this price, it offers you premium looks and features with extremely refined and responsive engine. Ride and handling of this bike is even better than its costlier competitor. To add more, the bike features optional combined ABS which confirms you safe journeys. Yes, the top variant could have been priced a bit low but it’s not that expensive either. Undoubtedly, it’s completely worth to buy this bike and surely in the upcoming time, it will be the favourite sports bike of many. . .

I do seriously like the CBR250R a lot, especially the all black theme, the tri color and the Repsol colors are the best lookers but I don't know why but I simply love the 150R a lot more than this. . .

Now coming to my short review about the CBR250R after riding it, The 250R according to me is indeed the best in its class bike, it offers so much. . . I liked the colors of the bike, the design which is inspired from VFR1200F, the good power delivery, the roar and most importantly the Honda's heart in it which is refined. . . The bike feels stable even at high speeds, looks attractive with its decent styling but the only downside is the pricing of its ABS, it's costly but still with that price, you get better safety. . . Out of other competitors in the 250cc segment, the GT250R and the Ninja, this is the one which offers good product at a low price. . . With good seats and a linked monoshock at the rear and a wider tire for better stability, helps you for good touring as well and yes this indeed is a good bike. . . If you can extend your budget you can go for it, anyday better or else the CBR150R is the best when it comes to 150cc class IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE. . .

Now coming to the 150R, it's indeed the best bike you can get, except few things with the finishing here and there and the bad quality switch gears where it loses out to R15 but when it comes to performance, this is the one you got to own. . . It's simply superb, I have ridden R15 and CBR150R and given a chance to pick either one of these, I would go with the CBR150R any day, people might say it has got low torque that Unicorn has got, so what??? It doesn't perform like a Unicorn, does it. . ? No ways, it's way better in fact it has beaten R15 in almost every aspects in terms of performance, good bike with comfortable seats and good tires but not as good as that of R15s. . . You can simply just close your eyes and go for the CBR150R, that's what I would like to say. . . About the high cost of the 150R, it's because they use a DOHC engine, which is not mentioned in any reviews that I have read except by **********, that's where they have said this, rest all people only say the 150R is costly which in fact is not. . . So at final as you have test ridden all the three and liked the 150R, just go with it and you won't be disappointed. . . Hope all these info helped you in deciding. . . About the 150cc tag, if anyone asks you why did you pay so much for a 150cc bike, you can say them "this bike has all it needs for a 150cc bike, performance, power, top end, light handling, quicker and a fuel efficient too, yes if maintained well it can give almost 50kmpl of mileage and most importantly a good looking motorcycle with a refined engine" and come on sir, for many it doesn't look like a 150cc bike, it looks more meaner than any 150cc bikes out there. . .

About the Servicing part, just go to the offline G2G thread and post your query and discuss over there, they will help you out. . . Again good luck, keep us posted and don't forget to share your pics when you get the bike. . .

          Cheers!!!

I just heard from someone (though he was not a pro but still quite knowledgeable than an average Joe) that there is a lot of problem in spares of CBR 150R and 250R and in case of any issues with the bike, one can get stuck up for a few days. Also the chain needs regular maintenance....is that true? I have almost made up my mind for the 150R and really don't want to shift to another bike now .....

                CBR owners, calling for help...

Even if it is, are you buying the bike to crash it everyday?
2: Thats the case with almost every bike. Note, he said regular. Regular = 3-4 weeks. Is that too much for you? If yes, then you dont deserve the bike.

I dont think we are the ones to decide who deserves the bike and who doesnt..

He is just asking us for help and not be dumped..

@TS.. Maintaining a open chain is quite easy.. you just gotta lubricate it every 500 kms and dont let the chain get dry.. as simple as that..

Now regarding spare parts.. mate you are in delhi and you will get any spare part easily provided how much you torture the service guys.. besides.. the spare parts of homda are of best quality and you wouldnt have to change them often as like in bajaj..

So if you take good care of your bike.. she is gonna keep you happy.. exactly like how you take care of your health..

Now.. if you are talking about the cbr 150 and 250.. just adding extra 30000 you get a cbr 250 and it is one hell of a machine.. regarding rideability in traffic.. once you get used to the bike.. you can easily move past the traffic.. be it a splendor or a cbr250.. dont zig zag through the traffic as itnis dangerous..

Highway riding the 250 is one of the best in its class.. the smooth ridenis unbeatable.. mind you i test rode the duke 390 and it wasnt as smooth as the cbr 250 in my opinion of course..

So the choice is yours mate.. wishing you all the very best in selecting your bike..

                    Cheers,
                    Reneav

If I were the bike, I would definitely weep if my owner didn't treat me nicely, or couldn't take a few minutes(okay an hour) for me once 2-3 weeks.

Hahaha.. understandable.. but sometimes man proposes and god disposes..

Whenever i clean my bike the next day there is atleast a slight drizzle or heavy rain.. or a dust storm making the bike dirty.. right now i am only taking care of the chain.. after monsoon closes towards end.. i am gonna wash her and keep her new :-)

The answers which I wanted to say are answered above by both above me. . . One small piece of advice I would like to give here, once you have made up your mind, stop discussing about it, as the more you creep in, the more people have different opinions, one might say it's the best while others say it's a junk. . . There is no such thing as junk here, you pay 1.45 lacs not to get a shit, said you already. . . You get one of the best refined performance sports bike which is worth it, according to me. . . Just don't listen to others and go ahead and get your ride. . . Honda spares might be difficult to get but as you are in Delhi, you won't be facing that much of a problem, you will get it easily. . . Again saying, Honda have made it with almost better quality stuff, so you won't be replacing it every now and then, . . About the chain maintenance, yes open chains need maintenance, you just need to lube it once in a week or so, depending on your riding style and place, I ride a lot, so weekly once I get it lubed, if your travel is less, you can increase more. . . That's it sir, all your queries are answered, again saying now don't discuss more about it, the more deeper you go into a stuff, the more doubts fill your head. . . That's it. . .

                              Cheers!!!
