  • New Gearless Scooter for Dad

My dad who is 62 years old is looking to replace his 2 year old Splendor + bike with a gear less scooter. He has been a Hero Honda (Hero now) customer for more than 15 years and all his previous bikes have been Splendor or Passion.

He has now started feeling bike is little heavy now and would like to switch to Gear less scooter. Only Gear less scooter what he is familiar is "Honda Activa" but i want him to look at other choices in the market. I feel Activa is over priced and there are better ones in the market now at the same price or lower.

Below is some of the models what i am comparing against. Need your advice on the best one

    TVS - Jupiter
    Honda - Activa - I
    Hero - Maestro
    Suzuki - Access

I am not considering Vespa since i feel it will look small on him.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

You can consider Jupiter as it has got loads of new features, but I guess you should wait for some time to know how it performs. . . Or else you can also try Dio or Ray, if you like as I guess they are lighter than this. . .

      Cheers!!!
      Yamaha Rx135 - 2005 - 2007 (stolen )
      Scooty Pep - 2008 - 2012 (sold)
      Honda Unicorn - 2012 - 2015 (crashed)
Hero Honda Splendor+ 2015 - present (temporary ride)
      Bajaj Pulsar AS200 - 16th September 2015 - present ride

      10 years into riding :D

In my opinion, elderly people stick to their point and are comfortable only with that. Just in case if our suggestions take time to work out, we'd be blamed repeatedly. I mean nothing wrong but it just happens.

If I were you, I'd let my father use Activa as he is already familiar and comfortable with it. I would not choose to expose him to new rides and complicate his riding purposes. Just my opinion though... Else, I'd suggest you to take a look at Honda Dio.

It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Spare the activa-i for the ladies.
Looking at the features on paper, the Jupiter easily outshines all other competitors, but it's still to be seen how it performs against the competitors in the real world. At this time, the Suzuki Access would seem like the best option - it doesn't look feminine, has more pull and looks sober. The Maestro might work in your favour due to brand familarity, but there is nothing new that it brings to the table apart from a digital console.

            Guy's, thanks for the suggestion.

To clarify when I said my dad is "familiar" with Active, I meant he had heard about it. He has not driven any gearless scooter till now.

Anyway he has booked Honda activa by paying 1000Rs and due to high demand delivery is expected in April 2014!!!

In the meantime I am pushing him to test drive other brands and then decide.

THe best bet would be to make sure he test drives each and every scooter on your list. THis would definitely be helpful.
