• What bike within 95K?

Hi all

I have been keeping an eye on this forum since last month or so, while reading and doing my research so that I can decide on my first bike

I need a bike with good look and decent height so that I dont have to face difficulty in touching down my feet to the ground. My height is 5'4". And my budget is stretched upto 95K(max.).

Below are some of my amateur points I am considering for a bike.

1. For everyday city riding : I need a bike that should be easy to ride through decent city traffics.

2. Tourer : I already planned to go for some long rides during my weeks off, but not every weekend.

3. Mileage : I dont earn much for now so yeah mileage is surely a concern. Need decent mileage of 35-40 kmpl for daily riding within city traffic.

4. Looks and Feel : Being an amateur, I guess this is what my decision factor will be..

5. Last but not the least and most important point - Bike height : I already mentioned my height, so I need a bike with decent height so that I can get used to bike riding easily.

Yeah, that's pretty much about it I guess. Sorry no power and torque related enquiry because they are like alien knowledge to me. Any bike with decent power is good enough to be my first bike.

Considering all the above criterias, I have narrowed down my choice to Fazer.

Now I would like to get some pros and cons from bike gurus out here to help me in deciding whether Fazer is right choice for me or not.

ps - I live in darjeeling. Although Fazer showroom price is close to 80K, its on road price here is close to 93.5K. So yeah by 95K max budget means, on road price I meant

Thanks in advance, Cheers
Sangam

In my opinion Honda Unicorn will suit your needs but its seat height is on higher side and looks are average. If you want a normal commuter with no sexy styling, braking and acceleration then it is good.
Pros
Good handling, good fuel economy, decent acceleration, engine and gearbox is a gem, no issues, honda quality and peace of mind.
Cons
Looks average, tall for you.
Test ride it and see if you can manage.
Else Pulsar 200 ns is also good,
Pros
Looks awesome, awesome braking, handling and control, acceleration, modern tech.
Cons
Small issues, fuel economy will be less than Unicorn , tall for you.
Verdict
If you can manage the seat height then its awesome.
Fz is also good but pillion comfort will be an issue.
Pros
Looks hot, braking acceleration control is good,Fuel economy i don't know.
Cons
Touring comfort ????
I strongly recommend you to take a test ride. Things will be crystal clear after test ride. All the best.
I am loving my NS

Fz has got great looks but power is less, she's made for streets so if you are ok with low power then go for fz . Pulsar 200ns would be better. If you like to ride fast...then ns is the best, though height can be a problem but i don't think it would be a problem in the long run. Also if you go with Fz or fazer then you might feel the low power after an year or so ,but ns will fulfill all your needs for a long time 4years or so as it has got a lot of power in it(I don't know about the reliability). Fazer is what i would never buy....its a good machine and has also got wind tunnel test passed but pickup is not at all good for city as well as highways. Finally, i would advice you to go with pulsar 200ns.!.
Cheers....!

Thanks newrider and rishabh for your suggestions. After your suggestions I asked some more of my friends. And in result I got one nice deal I guess. One of my friend's friend is selling his 2 yr old Karizma ZMR for 70K. Distance run is 13k+ and all documents cleared. Is this bike a good VFM or I should ask for little less price or I shouldn't consider buying it.

Also p200 ns is out of my budget range. On road price in Siliguri, Kolkata is close to 120k+. Or else I wouldn't have second guessed it taking without considering the bike height.

Please suggest for second hand Karizma Zmr.

Thanks and Cheers..

IMO you should buy a new bike if you are shelling out so much money. As a new engine has its own charm....
Fazer would be good for you, but i doubt its comfort level in highway touring.

Imo fz will last long ...yamaha has got reliable engines .....worst is the case with bajaj....any bike from them goes flat after 15k or 20k kms.

Don't why everyone is recommending 200ns for a guy with a height of 5'4!! Never choose it. I repeat never. Minimum height requirement is 5'7 or at least 5'6

Since 95k is your max budget,I would recommend to go for Apache 160 or 180(may have engine issues after some 30k kms), Fz, unicorn/trigger and Fazer since you already narrowed down to it

Dude Darjeeling have some serious Tax issues. Never knew it

Re: What bike within 95K?

Since it is your first bike, I feel that Fz is what you should go for. It's well built for the streets and has good handling. And the fact that it accelerates in a controlled manner is actually good for newbies.
A P200NS would be a bit more, if not a lot of power to handle at times. So I won't recommend the NS.
The Karizma ZMR is a very good tourer. But it being a big bike, is difficult to maneuver in traffics, u-turns, tight parking spots.. So that also I would not recommend.
Second thoughts.. Honda has come up with a cousin for the Fz. It's the Trigger. It offers everything that the Fz has. Shaddle height is also low. It has a smoother engine than the Fz and offers rear disc brakes too. But its a little bit low on power and a bit more on pricing as compared to Fz. You may test ride that too.
Third thoughts.. TVS apache. Its light and sporty. Power is definitely better than Fz/Trigger. It handles good and is a good bike overall.

In order of preference considering all your needs..
1. Fz (best match for you)
2. Trigger (is almost same as Fz)
3. Apache RTR 160 (a better performer)

Have test rides. And do post what you finally decide.

P.S.: I missed the fact that you had chosen Fazer, not Fz. Noticed it after I made my suggestions. Anyways, Fazer and Fz have everything is common except the front fairing.

I would recommend that you go for Apache RTR 180 ABS.. The ABS is a life saver..Its definitely worth the extra money.. The bike does meet all your requirements, its powerful & fuel efficient as well (42 kmpl +, city & highway)..
But the RTR is NOT a perfect bike,it does come with a few "traits" & problems.. A good mechanic can ensure that an RTR is good as new..

Consider the karizma r, it will suit all your needs apart from the fuel efficiency... Gives around 30-35kmpl. P220 is a good deal too but would be a bit heavy for you i suppose and pillion comfort isnt very good. Then there is the pulsar 180.. good bike but seems out of context these days. Fz and fazer are great bikes but are a bit underpowered for their price point.

Honda bikes are good but its better to go with an hero extreme. The only down side of the extreme being the lack of monoshock. Upside being the vast hero service network and availability of spares.

Karizma zmr for 70 k is a good deal but fuel economy will be on the lower side . Since 200ns is out and you are considering zmr so unicorn won't satisfy you. In my opinion its better to go for a brand new apache rtr 180 abs. It has better brakes and handling than karizma and fuel economy is good too plus it has got abs. Lastly, if you love fairing then zmr is the way to go otherwise rtr 180 is a better option.
