• What bike for Touring, budget of 1Lakh INR

Guys,
I am looking out for a bike which I can use mainly for Touring purpose and to drive to office (may be once or twice a week)
I am a hobbyist photographer, and I love travelling, and I usually drive my car (Ford Figo) to the all the locations.
Whenever I get a leave or a break I am always planning for a drive, many of them do not take off due to personal commitments, but whenever the plan does take off, I have absolutely loved every drive I have gone to.

I am not a hardcore tourer in reality, but I know that in my heart I am, and I am working towards covering all the length and breadth of our country.
I know that it takes time, patience and planning, but I am working towards it.

Recently I went on a bike trip and the itch to make bike as my primary tourer has taken me over, and my initial itch of driving a car to the Leh, has changed to riding a bike.

I havent ridden a bike for over 3 years now, as my car has been my main commuter.
I know it will be difficult for me to start off on bikes after a long hiatus and get comfortable immediately, but I am willing to learn and get better.

I recently drove the Classic RE 350 and I liked it, but the reliability issues are a big bother for me, and my cousin has one and I can use it whenever I want, so I really do not want to buy any Royal Enfield.

Would a KTM 200 serve good as a tourer or should I go for a CBR 250 ?
How about Duke 390, I'll have to take a loan but that is my last option.

I am in the market for a second hand bike, as I am already heavily invested on my camera gear and am short of funds.
Am working with a max budget of 1 to 1.2L, this will leave me room for buying the safety gear which in my opinion is a must buy.

Hence with my requirements, could you please suggest me a bike.

Regards,
Lohith

Have you considered the Karizma R? It is very good for touring, has decent power and is maintenance free.

Since you have already ruled out RE, it leaves the below options for you in your budget of 1.2 L,

1. ) The Karizma is a very able tourer and is quite comfortable too.
2. ) Yamaha Fazer : A tourer from yamaha which will come well under your budget and save you a lot of moolah so you could get some riding gear. But its kind of under powered.
3.) Pulsar 200NS : More of a street bike, but its comfortable enough that people have done Leh tours on it.

Now the above bikes are well within your budget. But as you have also mentioned about the Honda 250R, if you can stretch the budget, please do as you will not regret it. Its a sports tourer and will you loads of smiles.

The 390 will be a little more stretch but if the 250r gives you smiles this will give you goosebumps.

Go for duke 390, no doubt 250r would be a good choice but if you can stretch your budget for 390 then go for it!
Cheers!

Karizma else cbr. I'd say go for karizma and buy safety gears from the money that will have remained..

I suggest CBR, or else the ZMA. Personally I'd go with the CBR, ZMA's headlight sucks for touring. Forget Duke, those are for city commuting and ripping, not for tourers.

Dukes are good on highways.. are you bothered about Fuel Economy? If not then close your eyes and go for D390.. its got the motor which feels smooth after 4000-5000 rpm and you can easily cruise at 140ish and it comes with abs amd perfect tires which stick to the road like leech..

If you feel 2L is too high, then CBR250 is a perfect choice... no doubt as its got a honda engine..

If you feel that is again a bit too much then try the zmr.. reliable and 45 to 50+ kmpl on the highways.. so burning less fuel while travelling more distance..

Otherwise the one and only karizma.. been in market for yesrs niw and reliability factor is awesome with maintenance free engine..

First of all a big thanks for approving the query

Like I said , I am looking for a used bike, I have shortlisted a couple of them for this Sunday, and if any one feels good i will take it off.

I am mainly looking for a 250R, but lots of them have suggested on XBHP travelogues where Duke 200 is good for touring as well.

I spoke to my cousin and he told me to stay away from Karizma as maintenance or finding spares is a pain.

So it's either a D200 or 250R for now.

Will let you guys know about what I decide.

Thanks a lot guys.

Duke has no center stand, large fuel tank (considering its FE of 30kmpl), center stand, comfortable seat and the suspension is hard to facilitate sharp handling. The aforementioned qualities are very important on a touring bike. Actually a lot of guys tour on the Duke simply because there is no good affordable alternative currently available in India. Maybe KTM will release a 390 Adventure which will make moles out of mountains. Go for the CBR, you'll love it for touring.

Hi Anuj,
Not sure what you're saying.
Are you saying Duke isnt the right bike for touring.

Even I am considering what Cleaner has shared, but some reviews have stated that, you get used to the Duke 200's seat as you start using it.

Also how about the CBR 150 for touring, any opinions....
Also 200NS, as I dont want to have any niggling issues, would anyone recommend this bike for touring, and man what a shocker price it's got...
