  • Help me to choose a new bike as i'm in mere confusion......

    Hi all,

I would like to buy a new bike for myself. I'm 23 yrs old and height 5'10. Currently I'm using Caliber 115 its my dad's bike. I want your valuable suggestions for choosing my dream bike.

I had short-listed the below bikes:

    1. Honda CB shine
    2. Bajaj Discover 125T
    3 TVS Phoenix

    My requirements are:

    - Good mileage and comfort riding position
    - Low maintenance
    - After sale service
    - Best resale value
    - Durability of engine

Its mostly for city use only. I hardly go for long drives. I would like to buy the best bike so that i should not regret my self afterwards. I'm in mere confusion choosing a best and powerful bike. Hope your valuable suggestions help me to buy a best and powerful bike.

From the 3 options that you have given, Honda Shine seems to be the best.
my friend has it and he rides it like anything and the bike still performs really good.
Discover is also nice, but as for you criterion of reliable and tension free engine in the long run, Honda is to be preferred.
i don't know much about Pheonix.

And a request to all posters, only try to help the TS and not start the same brand wars and ego hurting like in other threads.

        Ride safe and have fun.

Since you have already short listed your choice... it's a mere process of elimination now:

          1. All three bikes that you have selected have good mileage in their segment... the discover AFAIK has the best mileage among the three. +1 for discover.

          2. The cost of maintenance is low on all the three but when the question is about reliability over a long period and frequency of service after warrant ... etc. The Honda Shine wins hands down. +to the Shine

          3. A.S.S is purely subjective to your local dealer and it's a matter of personal experience. .. Every body has varried opinions with this regards. In my opinion it wouldn't be fair to judge one over the other as like I mentioned earlier there are many factors to this. However taking the bigger picture the ASS of TVS is least talked about and the Honda has a more positive feedback than the Bajaj.. neutral points (considering my personal experience I would give a +1 to honda)

          4. Resale value... AFAIK the Honda is better (again purely depends on how well you maintain your bike)

          5. Durability of engine, it's definitely the Honda that wins here. It's the most refined/smooth and durable engine that is there to offer.

Going by the above, it's the Honda Shine that seems like the bike for you. Hope this helped.

+1 to the Shine from someone who has a first-gen Shine (spokes/drum/kick) in the family since the last 8 years. It's a pleasure to ride in city, thanks to the butter smooth engine and excellent low-end torque. Be informed however, that the Shine is a purebred commuter and not a performance bike. If you are into touring or looking at performance, you'd be better off with the 125ST, which cruises effortlessly at 70 and manages to cross 100kph at the top end. The maximum speed you can squeeze of the Shine would be ~75kph and the engine will be highly strained at that speed. The Shine is ideal for 50kph cruising and occasional 70kph bursts.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

HONDA Shine, from the shortlisted lot. Why? - for the same reasons posted by the rest.

I have ridden one from one of my friend who owns it for a long time now. Trust me, it meets all your requirements.

If it is your dream bike, I assume you will be riding it for quite a lot of time.

If you plan to keep it for anything > 4 years, make sure you will be happy with it for that time. In my books, the only 4 things which can keep owners happy are:
                  1. Power
                  2. Consistent FE
                  3. Low Spares cost
                  4. Future-Proof Standard-Equipment

There is only 1 among the 3 which will ace all 4.

Finally, if you plan to keep the bike for that long, it really doesn't matter what bike you get. Its resale will always be pathetic as long as it is not a Hero Splendor/Passion.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

My budget is 60-70k.... I've heard Discover 125T is a bit powerful than Shine but when comes to reliability of engine Shine seems to be best. The riding position of Discover 125T is quite good when compared to Shine. Please post some pros and cons of the above selected bikes. Also suggest some other bikes considering my budget.

Re: Help me to choose a new bike as i'm in mere confusion......

I had to choose one for my younger brother in this class. Chosen discover 125st after riding everything in the class.
I think the reliability difference in thus class is more of a myth or advertising trip card to sell inferior goods at higher price.

I have an ancient boxer and classic schooter in decent condition in spite of abuse in garage.

So I had little problem in choosing the 4 valve motor which have considerably more juice than the competition and kmpl was like the competition. And then it have even a cool mono shock which some 200+ cc bikes don't have.

Very easy choice at the end.

By the way 're sale value is not a point of consideration for me since I am not buying bikes to sell primarily!

If you have to sell the bike sooner and wanna get max no money back better don't buy bajaj. People still thinks they are Iinferior in reliability.
