  • Extremely confused: FZ S (military green) / RTR 180 (white)

    HELLO X-BHPians,

KINDLY SUGGEST ME ONLY ONE BIKE OUT OF FZ-S (SPL.EDITION MILITARY GREEN) / RTR 180 (WHITE) (NON ABS) :-

"PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST ME ANY OTHER BIKE AND DON'T DIVERT THE TOPIC FROM THESE 2 BIKES"

I took both of their TD, liked FZS, loved RTR180 but i'm still confused which one to buy as to me FZS gives yamaha longevity, smooth engine, comfort and ultimate looks whereas RTR180 gives gr8 power, control, fun ride and mileage.

MY REQUIREMENTS:- A mix of Ride control, performance and comfort with a mileage of atleast 40-45 Kmpl. I am 5'9 and 68 KG & will ride mostly in Jaipur city but i usually ride quick but not harsh. I take care of my bike, will keep the bike for atleast 5 years & thats why i want the better of these 2 suiting my needs. Thanks in advance

FZ I don't think will give you that much of FE, so I think RTR180 is a good option, . . I have ridden both and find the RTR kinda good, only if you can cope with the vibs. . . Comfort wise it ain't that comfortable for the first couple of days until you get used to it and ride control is good, in the handling department, this is one awesome piece and you just need to change to a softer rubber, . . As you are a city rider, the RTR seems a good option as it's quick, performer combined with good brakes, just go for it. . .

      Cheers!!!

48+ are you kidding me good joke BTW Fz does give FE but not that much and I think in this the RTR180 gives equal or a bit more in terms of FE. . .

The FZ belongs to my friend whereas the RTR180 is my cousin's, both are sane riders. . .

PS: I am speaking on the basis of testing both the above two bikes in which the FZ gave 35-40 range and the RTR180 gave a healthy 40-45kpl fuel efficiency, guess you's FZ is special. . .

            Cheers!!!

Both of them are very good bikes. But I'd go with FZ anyday. My brother-in-law's FZ is 3.5 years old and gives between 40-42 kmpl(40k+ km.s till date). And yes, like you, he likes to ride quick but not harsh. You can keep your FZ for 5+ years comfortably. You have also chosen a very good colour which looks a little 'hatke'. Go for RTR if you like great pick-up and 2-3 kmpl better mileage.

You picked up two awsome bikes bro but i really dont like the FE of FZ at first it will provide you 40+ but after few servicings it hardly offers 38+. Moreover FE depends on riding style a lot. If you are luking for good handing and great tyres go for FZ,orelse stick to RTR for awsome pickup and great handing in city rides. FZS truly feels underpower to me in comparision to RTR,so choice is upto you get one soon and keep us updating dude
                Happy riding..

Both bikes will give you the FE you require.

FZ has a composed smooth ride whereas RTR has a racing DNA. I enjoy riding the Fazer(FZ) a lot. The handling is good, bike is planted, confidence inspiring and appear safe. On an fz you dont feel you are at high speed until you see the speedo, whereas bikes in this class rattles up to tell you the speed. Fz can go 25-110 km on 5th gear.. good for laid back cruises.
But I at times also feel that I could have got RTR 180 just for a kick sometimes.

If you can tolerate vibs which are part and parcel of rtr series then go for apache 180 eyes closed. I had took test ride of both bikes extensively a couple of months back. The feeling of control, urgency and braking you would get in rtr 180 is unique.
But if you want a butter smooth vibration free experience, well then yamaha fz it shoud be.

For life of bike(as you mentioned "atleast 5 years" ) better you ask/take help from owners in perspective ownership threads. Although I think, if maintained well, both will meet this requirement. My uncle is using tvs fiero for past 8 years.

You wish to keep the bike for at least 5 years? End of discussion. Go for the FZ. It's a very solid, time-tested machine. And you probably will never find the FZ under powered in Jaipur city . A friend of mine has been riding an FZS for the past 5 years without any issues. That bike is tailormade for the Indian cities. Apache is a good bike but it isn't something that suits your needs.

Re: Extremely confused: FZ S (military green) / RTR 180 (white)

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions but i am still confused and i tell u why:- Based on my TD experience:-

                            1) RTR180 - i test rode it for a good 5 kms and after riding for 1 km i felt so confident, cornered at a sharp turn with a pillion all the time and it always gave me a spirited ride with cornering, braking, power and even the suspension worked really well on a road with potholes giving a comfortable ride. Only thing new was i had to bend a little forward. Overall i loved the ride and i din't feel any noticable vibs though i rode it between 50-70 in 4th-5th gear mostly.

                            2) FZS - i could test ride it only for a km and it felt very comfy as soon as i sat on it. It was definitely slower than RTR but it felt planted and braking was also sharp. What i liked most abt it was that even in hard braking in 4th-5th gear, it din't require gear shift and there was no knocking which i felt in RTR where i had to shift to 3rd gear. Overall i just fell for its (Military Green) looks and comfortably planted ride.

My Verdict (Why still confused):- As i generally ride quick but not harsh (I like to keep moving forward even in the traffic as i dont like dragging my bike, i like to ride it between 40-70 and mostly at stable speeds) & i would like to keep my bike for atleast 5 years:-

                            1) I want to go for RTR180 coz of fun city ride and stable mileage but will it give me engine & vib problems after 2-3 years as i dont want to spoil my later years with problems in bike.
                            2) I want to go for FZS coz i fell for the looks of this special edition with yamaha's reliable smooth engine, but people say it wont give a mileage of 40-45 & will drop to 32-38 kmpl and why not go for a RTR180 which is much more powerful and gives a slightly better stable mileage too.

                            PLEASE HELP

RTR is certainly more powerful than FZ-S, and might give more FE also.
Keeping in mind that you want to keep the bike for the next 4-5 years, Yamaha wins here. but this mostly depends on how you keep the bike (servicing, maintenance etc)
also, FZ won't return you mileage of ~45, unless you ride it in splendor mode. I ride my FZ mostly in the upper revs (100% city riding) and i get FE in the range 30-35km/L.
                              Keep all this in mind.
