Re: Extremely confused: FZ S (military green) / RTR 180 (white)

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions but i am still confused and i tell u why:- Based on my TD experience:-

    1) RTR180 - i test rode it for a good 5 kms and after riding for 1 km i felt so confident, cornered at a sharp turn with a pillion all the time and it always gave me a spirited ride with cornering, braking, power and even the suspension worked really well on a road with potholes giving a comfortable ride. Only thing new was i had to bend a little forward. Overall i loved the ride and i din't feel any noticable vibs though i rode it between 50-70 in 4th-5th gear mostly.

    2) FZS - i could test ride it only for a km and it felt very comfy as soon as i sat on it. It was definitely slower than RTR but it felt planted and braking was also sharp. What i liked most abt it was that even in hard braking in 4th-5th gear, it din't require gear shift and there was no knocking which i felt in RTR where i had to shift to 3rd gear. Overall i just fell for its (Military Green) looks and comfortably planted ride.

My Verdict (Why still confused):- As i generally ride quick but not harsh (I like to keep moving forward even in the traffic as i dont like dragging my bike, i like to ride it between 40-70 and mostly at stable speeds) & i would like to keep my bike for atleast 5 years:-

    1) I want to go for RTR180 coz of fun city ride and stable mileage but will it give me engine & vib problems after 2-3 years as i dont want to spoil my later years with problems in bike.
    2) I want to go for FZS coz i fell for the looks of this special edition with yamaha's reliable smooth engine, but people say it wont give a mileage of 40-45 & will drop to 32-38 kmpl and why not go for a RTR180 which is much more powerful and gives a slightly better stable mileage too.

PLEASE HELP give your opinion based on my last 2 points:- Thanks in advance

When it comes for the best buy for the bucks then one should look for the best possible features you can get :

So It would be RTR180 straight. I don't see any confusion here at all. It's you who is making confusion by himself.

FZ is close to 85K and RTR 180 non ABS is close to 92K

      So If RTR gives you
      1. Dual Disc
      2. More power
      3. More average
      4. Handling almost same.
      5. Braking same.
      6. Torque for city as well as high way.
      7. Speed of 120kmph when needed

      Then why not RTR ??

FZ's looks are subjective to an individual. Now I don't see FZ design as exceptional good. It's ok for me now.
FZ is definately a good handling and braking. But RTR is also same.
FZ don't give more than 38-40kmpl max. It gets sort of breath post 100kmph no matter how much you squeez. It will take time to reach 110kmph.

Refinement in FZ is more, But how much difference does it makes to you that needs to be think ?

5yrs ?? Now any bike can last for 5 yrs provided you are interested to keep one rather than opting for a new model in future.

Go for RTR 180 if possible go with ABS version, you see the difference in riding etc..

My sept 2009 RTR is 52K old. Still touch-wood. It all depends on, how you take care of your ride. Buy any one of them, you wont regret....
        Cheers....

        Edit:
And yes about the mileage- Mine gives around 40 Kmpl now(Best 44, worst 37 WRT your riding style). Same goes for my friend's FZ. So, not much of a difference between the two either. And both handles equally well.
Do numerous TDs then decide what you want.... Enormous Comfort or Raw Power?

The new FZ gives mileage of 40-45 and it wont degrade any further.. it would only improve in the initial 15-20K kms.
Even rtr wont start giving you vibs after 2-3 years. So choose accordingly

@TS : My suggestion for you is the RTR. As per your comments the top most things you love about RTR is the ride quality (which suits your persona) and at FZ above all other things you love the looks. You can sacrifice the looks and go for the horse that listens to you well. You will be happy with the RTR. cheers.

Guys, i have finalized RTR 180 and left FZs. Kindly guide me on 2 more things:-

                  1) I will be changing rear tyre (110/80-17) to MRF. Should i change tyre size to (120/80-17) and should i also get front tyre (90/90-17) changed ?

                  2) Which Color (White/Black) ?
As Black shines & looks glossier and White looks unique. Which color RTR will look better even after 3 years ?

                  Thanks in advance...

As per colour is concerned i think black 180 luks amazing and its not that common like the white one,and it will definetly glow more shine after 3 yrs. No doubt white is unique but it requires more care and polishing..
Regarding the tyre issue i wont think it would be a issue in opting 120 rather than 110 the performance remains same...
So keep updating us & eagar to see your new beasts pics soon...

                      Thanks for ur reply

Will size 120 reduce FE also as compared to 110, how much performance is improved with size 120 as TVS guys said to stick with size 110 ?

Should i get front tyre also changed or TVS will do the job ?

I would also suggest you to stick on 110 size as its a brand new bike and may effect a little on FE,the 2012 apaches have 17" rim size but earlier were 18" so it may effect a bit. But performance will be the same & dont change the front tyre as it works well mine is still the stocks and covered 30k kms and never let me down yet. Remember if you are opting for MRF you will get a reduce tyre life and wll have to change in 15k-18k kms...TVS tyres have less road grip but survives long more then 30k kms..

Ride the Stock tires untill monsoon advent...... It will serve you well in dry conditions(If going for ABS, No need to change at all). Change it around May/June.... No need to change the front tire, I changed the front after riding 40K Kms.....
You can comfortably change the rear to max 120/70 spec tires. Will improve your FE a bit(Due to larger diameter).

                            thanx,

I m going for Non-ABS. I m changing the front tyre as a dealer is ready to replace MRF to TVS & will charge me 800-1000 Rs. As per ur suggestion if i change to a new tyre in June, who will take my old tvs tyre & it will cost me more. Don't you think tht i m getting a good deal.

So which tyre size will be best sor rear for better performance without affecting FE
                            110/80-17
                            120/80-17
                            120/70-17
Also suggest me on color (Black/ white) ?

wow, didnt knew that. Really sweet deal. But dont go for 120/80. It would be over sized and affect handling. 120/70 is great. I had used IRC 120/70 in the past. But the stock size gives you the best handling I would say.
And colour is subjective. I have the white colour since 4.4 years, and it still glows as new. You just need to wash properly and polish twice every month.
